It is a worthwhile option for buyers who want Google’s smartwatch features in a larger case, but it is a modest update over the Pixel Watch 4—not an obvious upgrade for existing owners or a substitute for a dedicated sports watch.
What’s new in the Pixel Watch 5?
Google’s Watch 5 keeps the familiar Pixel Watch design and focuses on refinements rather than a wholesale redesign. Its headline specifications include Wear OS 7.0, a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor with a Cortex-M55 co-processor, and 64 GB of eMMC storage. Google lists the 45 mm model as compatible with most phones running Android 12 or newer; setup and individual features can also depend on a Google account, the required apps, country and language.
Tom’s Guide describes the changes as relatively minor and says Watch 4 owners have little reason to upgrade. TechRadar is more positive about the refinements and accuracy, while noting the value concern for buyers seeking the full fitness-feature set without a subscription. Those are reviewers’ assessments, not a guarantee that every user will experience the watch the same way.
Does the 45 mm case fit comfortably?
The case measures 45 mm across and 12.3 mm tall, and weighs 36.7 g without the band, according to Google. The included active band comes in two sizes: small for listed wrist circumferences of 150–185 mm and large for 165–215 mm. Because the ranges overlap, consult the fit guidance and try the watch on if possible; case diameter alone does not determine comfort.

Google also rates the watch 5 ATM water resistant and IP68, and describes it as repairable. These ratings do not mean it is immune to damage; follow Google’s care guidance, particularly after impacts or exposure to water.
How long does the Pixel Watch 5 battery last?
Google lists a typical battery capacity of 465 mAh and estimates up to 40 hours with always-on display, or up to 72 hours in Battery Saver mode. These are manufacturer estimates, and Google cautions that actual life varies and may be lower. Screen settings, activity tracking, connectivity and how the watch is used all matter when judging whether it will last through a particular routine.

Tom’s Guide reported an average of 48 hours per charge in its own testing. That publication-specific result is not a promised runtime and should not be treated as directly comparable to another person’s usage without matching settings and conditions.
Charging time and what’s in the box
Google specifies approximate Quick Charge Dock times of 15 minutes to reach 50%, 30 minutes to reach 80%, and 60 minutes to reach 100%. The dock is included. A USB-C power adapter rated at least 7.5 W is required but is not included, according to Google’s specifications.

What health and safety features does it offer?
Google lists heart-rate, ECG-compatible electrical, blood-oxygen (SpO2), skin-temperature, cEDA and motion sensors. The device’s sensors provide the hardware basis for health and activity features, but availability and access to particular insights can depend on location, software, Google Health and Google Health Premium. Check Google’s current service terms for the features available where you live before buying; the terms and included benefits can change.
This distinction matters for value. TechRadar flags the premium tier as a drawback for people who want the complete fitness-feature set without recurring fees. If you mainly want core smartwatch functions and occasional health tracking, the subscription question may carry less weight; if you expect guided insights or expanded fitness features, include any required service cost in your comparison.

Is the Pixel Watch 5 worth buying—or upgrading to?
For a new Android smartwatch buyer, the Watch 5 45 mm makes the strongest case if a large, bright display, Google’s connected features and the listed sensor suite matter more than extensive athletic coaching. For a current Watch 4 owner, the reviewers’ description of a small generational change is a reason to compare the actual benefits against the cost rather than upgrading on the model number alone.
Before deciding, compare the two watches using your own priorities:
- Battery: Compare runtime under similar always-on, GPS and connectivity settings rather than relying on a single headline estimate.
- Health and safety: Check which features are available in your region and whether any require Google Health Premium.
- Training: Tom’s Guide favors Garmin for depth of training insights, while describing Pixel as offering more smart features. Choose according to whether coaching or everyday smartwatch functions matter more.
- Fit: Consider the 45 mm case dimensions and the supplied band’s wrist ranges, not just the screen size.
- Price and connectivity: Check the current price for your market and whether you need Wi-Fi or LTE, including carrier support for LTE.
Prices are time-sensitive and differ across the cited listings. Google’s US launch announcement said preorders began August 12, 2026, with retail availability August 20, and a starting price of $429 for the 45 mm version. Tom’s Guide listed US pricing of $429 for Wi-Fi and $529 for LTE, while TechRadar listed $429.99 in the US, £399.99 in the UK and AU$699 in Australia. These figures reflect different sources and, in some cases, connectivity configurations; verify the live price and model for your market before purchase.
