The Pixel 10 and base Galaxy S26 both offer wide, ultrawide and telephoto cameras, but the Pixel has a longer listed optical telephoto reach: 5x versus the Galaxy’s 3x. That gives the Pixel a framing advantage for distant subjects; it does not establish which phone takes better automatic photos overall. The official specifications describe hardware and features, not a matched test of focus, exposure, skin tones or moving subjects.
Models compared: Pixel 10 and base Galaxy S26
This comparison covers the Google Pixel 10 using Google’s US specifications and the base Samsung Galaxy S26 using Samsung’s US product page. Samsung’s UK business specifications also list the same camera resolutions and zoom figures for the S26. These are not the Pixel Pro or Galaxy S26 Ultra, whose camera systems are outside this comparison.
Camera hardware and zoom
| Camera detail | Google Pixel 10 | Samsung Galaxy S26 (base model) |
|---|---|---|
| Rear cameras | 48 MP wide, 13 MP ultrawide, 10.8 MP telephoto (Google, US specifications) | 50 MP wide, 12 MP ultrawide, 10 MP telephoto (Samsung, US product page; corroborated by Samsung UK Business specifications) |
| Optical telephoto zoom | 5x (Google, US specifications) | 3x (Samsung, US product page and UK Business specifications) |
| Other stated zoom | Optical-quality zoom at 0.6x, 1x, 5x and 10x; Super Zoom up to 20x (Google, US specifications) | 2x optical-quality zoom and up to 30x digital zoom (Samsung, US product page and UK Business specifications) |
The Pixel’s listed 5x optical telephoto can frame a more distant subject more tightly without relying on digital zoom than the S26’s 3x telephoto. Samsung lists 2x optical-quality zoom as well as 3x optical zoom; its stated maximum of 30x is digital zoom. Zoom labels describe framing and processing, not a guarantee that a highly magnified image will look sharp or pleasing.
Megapixel counts alone do not determine snapshot quality. The figures above describe sensor resolution, not how reliably a phone focuses, handles difficult light, renders skin or captures motion.

Automatic photo quality: what the specifications can and cannot tell you
For point-and-shoot use, a useful comparison is how each phone behaves when the user opens the camera, frames a scene and taps the shutter without adjusting settings. The manufacturer pages do not provide matched photographs or controlled results for that kind of use, so they cannot establish an overall automatic-photo winner.
A meaningful head-to-head would compare the same scenes on both exact models, with default camera settings and the software versions recorded. The most revealing situations are:

- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
- Daylight and backlight: Compare exposure on faces and bright skies, highlight detail, focus consistency and whether a face remains clear when the background is brighter.
- Indoor mixed light: Check whether faces and colors look natural under combinations of window light and artificial lighting, and whether the camera keeps the subject sharp.
- People and pets in motion: Look for missed focus, motion blur and inconsistent results across repeated shots. A still scene alone cannot show how well a phone freezes a moving subject.
- Night scenes: Compare detail, noise, color and blur in the same low-light setting. A named night feature is not evidence that one device wins.
- Skin tones: Check faces across different lighting and complexions rather than assuming a feature name guarantees a particular result.
- Ultrawide photos: Inspect edge stretching and distortion, especially with people or straight lines near the frame’s edges.
- Zoom framing: Compare the same subject at each phone’s optical telephoto setting and at similar framing. Record whether a result uses optical, optical-quality or digital zoom.
Documented camera features
Google Pixel 10
Google lists optical plus electronic image stabilization on the Pixel 10’s wide and telephoto cameras. Its documented camera features include Night Sight, Face Unblur, Top Shot, Real Tone, Portrait Mode, Macro Focus and Astrophotography. These features indicate what Google says the phone offers; they do not prove an advantage over the Galaxy in matched automatic shooting.
Samsung Galaxy S26
Samsung describes the base S26’s camera processing with the terms Nightography and ProVisual Engine. Those are Samsung’s product descriptions, not independent findings about photo quality or a demonstrated point-and-shoot advantage.

Which one should you choose?
On the available specifications, choose based on the camera capability that matters most to your framing: the Pixel 10 has the longer listed optical telephoto reach at 5x, while the base Galaxy S26 lists 3x optical zoom plus 2x optical-quality zoom. Both also have wide and ultrawide cameras. If your priority is which phone more consistently produces the photos you prefer automatically, the specifications here are not enough to decide; look for matched examples from the exact models, especially in motion, indoor light and night conditions.
