If your Google Pay Flex SBI Card was declined, first check the card’s status, available credit and transaction limit, then confirm that the merchant accepts the card for the payment type you attempted. The right fix depends on whether you were paying online, paying a merchant or biller in Google Pay, using a RuPay credit card at a UPI QR code, or tapping to pay. A decline can also require SBI Card to check the account; the error alone may not reveal the cause.
First, identify how you tried to pay
Separate the payment channel from the card itself. A setup problem that can stop contactless payments will not explain every online checkout decline, and a card’s inability to send money to a person is different from a merchant transaction being rejected.

- Online merchant checkout: Check that the card is supported by the merchant and that the card details entered are correct.
- Merchant or biller payment in Google Pay: Google says credit cards can be used for merchant and biller payments.
- RuPay credit card at a UPI QR code: The merchant must accept RuPay Network credit cards or UPI QR payments.
- Contactless tap-to-pay: Check the phone’s NFC and screen-lock setup, and make sure the Flex card is enabled and selected.
- Payment to a friend or family member: Google says cards are not supported for peer-to-peer payments such as sending money to friends or family.
Google’s Flex by Google Pay help and credit or debit card troubleshooting guidance distinguish these payment types.
Check the Flex card’s status, limit and available credit
Open the Flex area in Google Pay and review the card status and available credit. Google’s Flex-specific guidance lists a blocked card, a transaction limit that has been reached, or insufficient available credit among the checks to make when a payment fails.

- Card blocked: If Google Pay shows the card as blocked or closed, contact SBI Card rather than repeatedly retrying the transaction.
- Limit reached: Check whether the amount would exceed the transaction limit shown for your card.
- Not enough available credit: Compare the purchase amount with available credit, not just the card’s overall credit limit.
- Merchant or payment type not accepted: For a RuPay credit-card UPI QR payment, confirm that the merchant accepts this payment method. A merchant’s acceptance of other UPI payments does not by itself establish that it accepts RuPay credit cards.
Google’s Flex help does not provide a complete SBI-specific list of decline codes, so a displayed error may not identify the precise account or authorization reason.
Rule out card-entry and temporary technical problems
For a general card acceptance error, check that the card is supported for the transaction and that the details were entered correctly. If Google identifies the problem as technical, its guidance is to try again after 2–4 hours. Waiting is a troubleshooting step for a possible technical issue, not a guarantee that an issuer-declined payment will succeed later.

If the same payment still fails after the suggested wait, or the error points to the card or account, contact the issuer. If a failed transaction was charged, Google’s card guidance also directs users to contact their bank.
For a tap-to-pay decline, check phone and contactless setup
Use these checks only when the failed payment was a contactless tap. Google lists the following setup requirements in its tap-to-pay troubleshooting guidance:

- NFC is turned on.
- A default card is selected for contactless payments.
- The phone has a screen lock.
For a newly issued card, Google also advises turning on contactless settings through the issuer’s app or online banking. Google’s general card guidance explains that a card may be blocked if it was not activated within the stipulated time after issue, or if it was never used for online or contactless payments within the stipulated time. Treat this as Google’s explanation of the RBI directive, not as a complete statement of current regulatory requirements or proof that it caused your decline.

Google Pay setup guidance is relevant when the issue is adding or selecting the card, or meeting contactless requirements. SBI Card is the issuer and is the right contact for account-specific authorization declines and credit-card matters. Google directs users to the issuing bank for credit underwriting, card issuance, billing and statements, disputes, fraud, repayment and other credit-specific concerns.

For a card shown as blocked or closed in the Flex homepage, Google’s Flex guidance says to contact the bank. The SBI Card contact details shown on that page are phone 1800 180 1290 and email customercare@sbicard.com; check SBI Card’s current official support information before relying on these details.
When contacting SBI Card about a failed or charged transaction, have the transaction date, amount, merchant and displayed error ready. Do not share an OTP, PIN, CVV or full card number in a public post or with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
