Google says there are indications that a high-severity Pixel modem vulnerability, CVE-2026-58704, may be under limited, targeted exploitation. The September 2026 Pixel update addresses it at security patch level 2026-09-05 or later. As of October 8, Google’s newer October update uses patch level 2026-10-05; install the latest update offered for your supported Pixel.
What Google disclosed about the Pixel vulnerability
In its September 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin, published September 15, Google says: “There are indications that CVE-2026-58704 may be under limited, targeted exploitation.” Google classifies the flaw as a high-severity elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in the modem.
The wording is qualified: Google reports indications of limited, targeted exploitation, not a confirmed broad campaign. The bulletin does not identify an attacker, describe the incidents or provide a root-cause analysis, exploit chain, victim count or specific targets.
Which Pixel security update fixes it?
Google says Pixel security patch level 2026-09-05 or later addresses all issues in the September Pixel bulletin and the September Android Security Bulletin. That is the minimum level Google identifies for the September issues.

Google’s newer October 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin, published October 6, says patch level 2026-10-05 or later addresses all issues in the October Pixel bulletin and the October Android Security Bulletin. The September exploitation statement comes from the September bulletin; the October bulletin is the more current monthly update.
How to check and install the update
- Open your Pixel’s Settings app.
- Tap About phone, then Android version, and check Android security update for the displayed patch level.
- If the level is earlier than 2026-09-05, open Settings > System > Software updates > System update and check for an update. Install the latest update offered for your supported device, then check the displayed patch level again.
Google’s October update announcement says rollout for supported Pixel devices running Android 17 began October 6 and would continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. A delay in seeing the update does not mean every Pixel receives it at the same time; check again later if it is not yet offered.

Do not confuse the Pixel flaw with the Android-wide bulletin
The Android Security Bulletin is broader than the Pixel-specific bulletin. Google’s September 2026 Android Security Bulletin says security patch level 2026-09-01 or later addresses its listed Android issues. It also describes a separate critical System vulnerability that could enable remote code execution without additional execution privileges or user interaction, assuming mitigations are disabled or bypassed. That issue is not CVE-2026-58704, which Google lists as a high-severity modem elevation-of-privilege flaw in its Pixel bulletin.
