Choose iCloud+ if your photos, files, and device backups are mainly part of Apple’s ecosystem; choose Google One if you need shared storage for Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. There is no universal winner: compare the storage tier you need, your local price, family setup, and whether you’ll use the included extras.

What Google One and iCloud+ storage covers

Google One adds storage to a Google Account. That capacity is shared across Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail, rather than being reserved for only one of those services. Google describes it as a subscription with extra storage and additional Google benefits. See Google One’s official plan page.

iCloud+ adds Apple cloud storage for photos, files, and backups, with sync and backup workflows across Apple devices. Apple calls iCloud+ its premium cloud subscription. Its plans and region-specific pricing are listed on Apple’s iCloud+ plans and pricing page.

Current U.S. plans and monthly prices

The official plan pages listed the following U.S. monthly prices and capacities when checked on October 8, 2026. These are U.S. figures, not a global price comparison; prices and included benefits can change, so check the relevant provider page for your country before subscribing.

The current capacities and prices are on the Google One plan page and Apple’s regional pricing page.

Which service fits your situation?

Choose iCloud+ if Apple devices are at the center of your setup

iCloud+ is the more natural fit when your everyday storage needs are iPhone or other Apple-device photos, files, and backups. Its value is not just the number of gigabytes: Apple’s plan also lists features such as iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, custom email domains, Apple Invites, and HomeKit Secure Video. Whether a specific feature is available or useful depends on your location, account, device, and plan.

Choose Google One if your storage is spread across Google services

Google One is a practical fit when Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos all draw on the same Google Account storage. This can be more relevant than an Apple-centered plan if those are already where your mail, documents, and photo library live. Higher Google One tiers may include Google AI capabilities and other benefits, but the offer varies by plan and may have restrictions.

Choose based on household setup if you’ll share storage

Both providers list sharing with up to five additional people. Google One sharing uses a Google family group; iCloud+ sharing uses Apple Family Sharing. Apple says each family member’s personal files and documents remain separate. Check that the people you want to include can use the applicable family-group arrangement before treating a shared plan as the right option.

Compare the real cost, not just the headline tier

Start with the service where your existing data lives, then estimate how much space you need across its included services. For Google One, that means considering Photos, Drive, and Gmail together. For iCloud+, account for the Apple photos, files, and backups you intend to store. Select a tier that covers current use plus reasonable headroom, then compare prices in your country.

  • Do not compare unlike capacities as though they were equivalent: the listed U.S. entry tiers are 100 GB for Google One Basic and 50 GB for iCloud+.
  • Count AI or other extras as value only if you expect to use them or would otherwise pay for them separately.
  • Check the provider’s current local plan page: prices, features, and availability can differ by region, plan, account, device, age, language, and system requirements.

What the plan information does not establish

The official plan pages describe storage, pricing, sharing, and included benefits; they do not establish that one service is faster, more reliable, more secure, or easier to leave. There is no supported performance-based winner here. Make the choice around ecosystem fit, capacity, local price, family-group compatibility, and features you will actually use.
