On a Nest Wifi router, solid white means it is online, slowly pulsing white means it is ready for setup, pulsing yellow signals a network error, and solid red indicates a critical issue. A Nest Wifi point uses a separate light ring with additional meanings. Check which device you have before interpreting its lights: Nest Wifi Pro and Google Wifi use different patterns.
Identify your device first
Google’s light-indicator guide lists separate patterns for the Nest Wifi router, Nest Wifi point, Nest Wifi Pro router, and Google Wifi point. Don’t assume that a color means the same thing across models. The Nest Wifi point is the unit with a light ring underneath; its two white LEDs on top are volume indicators, not the status ring.
Nest Wifi router light meanings
| Light pattern | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No light | The router may have no power, or its light may be dimmed in the app. | Check the power cable and outlet, then check brightness in Google Home. If it has power but remains unlit, contact Wi-Fi support. |
| Boot-up pattern, then slowly pulsing white | The router is starting, then becomes ready for setup. Google says booting takes about a minute. | Wait for the slow white pulse, then set it up in Google Home. |
| Solid white | Online and operating normally. | No action is needed. |
| Pulsing yellow | Network error. | Check the modem and Ethernet connection, and confirm both are powered on. Restart if needed. |
| Fast blinking yellow | The reset button is held and a factory reset is being initiated. | Release the button to stop, or keep holding it to continue the reset. |
| Solid yellow | Factory reset in progress. | Wait for the reset to finish; Google says it can take up to 10 minutes. |
| Solid red | Critical issue. | Factory-reset the router. If it remains red afterward, contact Wi-Fi support. |
Nest Wifi point light-ring meanings
The point’s status ring is on its underside. When the point is set up, the ring may normally stay dark except during interaction; a dimmed brightness setting or loss of power can also explain no light.
| Light pattern | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No light | No power, dimmed light, or normal standby after setup. | Check power and brightness. Try a voice command or touch the volume control to see whether the ring lights. |
| Solid orange | The microphone is muted. | Move the physical microphone switch on the back to turn it on if you want voice interaction. |
| Fast pulsing yellow | A factory reset is about to begin. | Keep holding the reset button to proceed, or release it to cancel. |
| Solid yellow | Resetting. | Wait several minutes. When ready for setup, the point slowly pulses white. |
| Slowly pulsing yellow | Network error. | Check connections to the modem, router, or primary point. If only this point is affected, restart it in Google Home; reset and set it up again if necessary. |
| Slowly pulsing white | Booting or ready for setup. | When setup-ready, use Google Home to complete configuration. |
| Fast pulsing white | Voice Assistant activity or a reminder/notification. | This is expected during interaction. A reminder light can remain for 10 minutes or until the assigned person asks for reminders. |
| Flashing white | A household member has a notification or reminder. | Ask Google Assistant for reminders. |
| Pulsing blue | The point is receiving a call. | Tap the top or answer by voice. |
| Solid red | The point has an issue. | Factory-reset it. If it stays red, contact Wi-Fi support. |
What to do when Nest Wifi pulses yellow
On a Nest Wifi router, pulsing yellow means a network error; on a Nest Wifi point, slowly pulsing yellow has that meaning. Start with the cable and modem rather than resetting immediately. Google’s setup troubleshooting guide recommends checking that the Ethernet cable is firmly seated in the router or primary point’s WAN port and connected to the modem. Confirm the modem and Wi-Fi devices have power, and that the modem has an internet source.
#1 Best Overall
- Each nest Wi Fi router provides up to 2200 square feet of fast, reliable Wi Fi coverage for your home. [1]
- Check the physical connection. Reseat the Ethernet cable at both ends and verify that it runs from the modem to the WAN port on the router or primary point.
- Restart the device. Unplug the Wi-Fi device, wait 10–20 seconds, reconnect it, then allow 1–2 minutes for it to start. Google documents this sequence in its restart instructions. Google Home can also restart the network or an individual point.
- Retry setup only after the ready pattern appears. If setup is the problem, close and reopen Google Home, check the setup requirements, or try another mobile device. Google’s device-discovery guidance explains setup-ready patterns and reset timing.
- Use a factory reset as a later step. A reset can take up to 10 minutes. Wait for the setup-ready light pattern before trying setup again.
When the light is red or stays off
For a solid red router or point, Google recommends a factory reset; if the red indicator remains afterward, contact Wi-Fi support. A dark light alone does not establish a fault: on the router it can mean no power or a dimmed light, while a configured point may illuminate only during interaction. Check power and the app’s brightness setting before escalating.

Nest Wifi Pro has its own status table: for example, slow pulsing blue means ready for setup on Pro, while the Nest Wifi router uses slowly pulsing white. Pro may fast-pulse white while booting or updating before slowly pulsing blue when ready. Google Wifi points also have distinct indicators, including pulsing orange for no internet and pulsing red for an issue. These are not Nest Wifi router signals; use the matching model’s row in Google’s status guide. OnHub is no longer supported as of January 11, 2023.
