Google introduced a fixed IP range for Google Meet traffic from people outside Workspace domains so administrators could identify that traffic and configure firewall rules. The change covered people using personal Google Accounts and people joining anonymously; Google said it had no impact on end users. The announcement describes a 2021 rollout, not a new change to apply today.
What changed in 2021?
On February 12, 2021, Google announced a dedicated IP range for Meet users who were not part of a Google Workspace domain. The range was already deployed when Google published the announcement. Google said Meet would stop using the old IP address starting March 1, 2021. Those dates are historical; they are not a future rollout schedule.
The announcement’s examples of non-Workspace participants were people using personal Google Accounts and anonymous joiners. The purpose was to make this traffic easier for organizations to identify and to give administrators a way to adjust network access and firewall rules for external participants. See Google’s February 12, 2021 announcement.
Do administrators need to update a firewall?
The 2021 announcement enabled administrators to update firewall rules for non-Workspace Meet traffic; it does not establish that every organization must make a change now. Whether a rule needs attention depends on your network configuration and the current Google Meet requirements. Before changing rules, consult the current Google Admin Help guidance linked from the announcement for the exact IP ranges and requirements. The current values are not reproduced here because they could not be verified from that guidance.

What about Meet ports and transport options?
Google published later network updates that add context, but their historical details should not be treated as a substitute for current firewall guidance.
| Announcement | What Google said |
|---|---|
| June 16, 2021 | Google announced TLS support over port 443 and said that, from July 2021, non-Workspace traffic over TLS would use the dedicated non-Workspace range. Source. |
| April 14, 2022 | Google announced UDP port 3478 for Meet media. Ports 19302–19309 were also used for media; Google said traffic could fall back to that existing range if port 3478 was blocked. Source. |
These updates describe options and behavior announced in 2021 and 2022. Verify the current ports, IP ranges, and firewall rules in Google Admin Help before making a present-day network change.
