Google has not announced a native return of Inbox Bundles to Gmail. Gmail does offer category tabs and customizable Multiple Inboxes, and a third-party Chrome extension called Inbundly advertises a closer, label-based bundle layout. These are alternatives, not a confirmed Google comeback.
Is Google Inbox coming back?
There is no announced Google-built revival of Inbox Bundles in the official updates covered here. Google said in 2018 that Inbox support would end at the end of March 2019 and directed users toward Gmail. The company said popular Inbox experiences had been added to Gmail, but did not say Bundles as a whole would return.
Later Gmail announcements do not change that distinction. Google announced a purchase view for purchase and delivery messages and more relevant Promotions sorting on September 11, 2025. Its January 8, 2026 announcement introduced Gemini-era Gmail capabilities. Neither announcement describes a native Inbox Bundles relaunch.
What were Google Inbox Bundles?
Inbox grouped related messages so people could review and manage them together rather than face a long, undifferentiated inbox. Google’s examples included promotions, purchases, and trip information. Users could handle a group at once, pin selected messages, and clear the rest. They could also choose which messages grouped together and whether a bundle appeared as messages arrived, daily, weekly, or not in the inbox.

What replaced Google Inbox?
Gmail offers native ways to divide and prioritize mail, but they are not documented as identical to Inbox Bundles.

Category tabs
With Gmail’s Default layout, messages can be sorted into tabs such as Primary, Social, Promotions, and Updates. This is the simplest option if Google’s built-in categories suit the way you sort mail.
Multiple Inboxes
Gmail’s Multiple Inboxes layout lets you create named sections based on search criteria. It can separate types of messages you want to keep visible, but it is a search-based layout—not the original Inbox feature with configurable bundles and its group-level handling.

Consider a third-party extension
The Chrome Web Store listing for Inbundly Gmail bundles extension describes collapsible bundles based on Gmail labels, with custom bundles, priority rules, and label coloring. That is the extension publisher’s described functionality, not a Google feature or endorsement. Check the current listing for supported browsers, permissions, data handling disclosures, and recent maintenance before installing; a store listing does not guarantee future compatibility.
The Chrome Web Store also lists inboxy, which describes itself as a visual layer over Gmail that groups messages sharing labels. Its listing is another possible alternative, but the listing alone does not establish how actively it is maintained.
