“Google I/O Pinball” refers to Input/Output, an HTML5 machine-building game Google made for its 2012 developer conference. Rather than a documented conventional pinball table, it asked players to send a particle from input to output by adding parts and customizing a working machine. Google’s official listing does not confirm whether the original game still loads today.
What was Google I/O Pinball?
The project’s official name was Input/Output. Google’s Experiments with Google listing describes it as an HTML5 game developed for Google I/O 2012 and credits Instrument. The “Pinball” label is a common way to refer to the conference-themed game, but Google’s listing calls it Input/Output and describes a machine-building activity.
How did the Input/Output game work?
The documented goal was to launch a particle from an input point to an output point. Players dropped parts into the design and customized them to create a colorful, working machine. The listing also says players could build multiple machines, tweak the code, and share their creations.
Google’s project page does not provide detailed rules, controls, scoring, or a walkthrough, so those specifics cannot be established from its description. The supported overview is that players built and modified machines to route a particle between input and output.

Can you still play it?
The official project listing does not confirm whether Input/Output currently loads or identify supported modern browsers or devices. Its historic description establishes what the game was, but not its present-day availability; current playability remains unverified.

- BUILD IT, THEN ACTUALLY PLAY IT: Most STEM kits get built once and shelved. This one becomes a real working arcade machine with spring launcher, flippers and scoring targets that gets played for months after build day.
- LEARN REAL ENGINEERING BY DOING: Assemble levers, springs and ramps and see momentum, energy transfer and mechanical advantage work in your hands.
- FOR KIDS, TEENS AND ADULTS ALIKE: A satisfying mechanical model kit for ages 8 to 99. Kids build it with a parent, teens build it solo, and adults get a genuinely absorbing screen-free project with a real payoff at the end.
- FUN FAMILY AND PARTY GAME: Once built, take turns and compete for high score. A tabletop arcade game that turns into game night entertainment for the whole family, not a toy that only one person uses.
- THE ULTIMATE BIRTHDAY GIFT: A thoughtful birthday or holiday gift for boys, girls, teens and adults who love building. Trusted by families in 33+ countries, winner of the 2022 Innovative Toy of the Year in the Netherlands and a 2022 TOTY Finalist.
Is it the same as Google’s 2026 Save the Date puzzle?
No. Google’s 2026 Save the Date is a separate experience: a collection of five games with an unlockable sixth. Its AI-related features and development details do not describe the 2012 Input/Output game.
