Google I/O 2025 took place online on May 20–21. Registration was free and open to everyone. The Google Keynote began May 20 at 10:00 a.m. PT, followed by the Developer Keynote at 1:30 p.m. PT.
When was Google I/O 2025?
The two-day event was held May 20–21, 2025. Google’s official announcement put it simply: “Save the date: Google I/O is May 20-21, 2025.” Google’s save-the-date announcement described the event as a gathering for developers and technology enthusiasts.
Was Google I/O free, and how could you watch it?
Google offered online participation, with registration open to everyone at no cost. The keynotes were livestreamed, and sessions were available online. Google’s Android developer newsletter listed the keynote times and free registration details: Google I/O 2025 registration and schedule.

What did Google announce at I/O 2025?
AI was the connective thread across the consumer and developer announcements, but I/O also covered Android, Search, web, Cloud, extended reality, and security. Google’s event lineup framed Gemini both as a set of models and as a platform developers could use to build applications and improve productivity. The Google I/O 2025 collection gathers material on AI, Gemini, developer tools, Android XR, and security.
Gemini and AI tools
Google highlighted advances in Gemini and generative media, including ways developers could access Google DeepMind and Gemini technology. In the edited keynote transcript, Google reported that usage of Gemini 2.5 Pro in the Gemini app had increased 45% in 2025. Google also said Gemini Live camera and screen sharing were beginning to roll out to Gemini app users on iOS, expanding beyond Android. “Beginning to roll out” describes an initial rollout, not a guarantee of immediate availability for every user. Search and agent-like capabilities
Search announcements appeared alongside Gemini and agent-like product capabilities, pointing to Google’s effort to bring generative AI into more of its consumer products. The keynote video’s segment list groups Search with Gemini and generative media; the official keynote video is the source for the presentation sequence.
Android XR
Android XR, Google’s extended-reality platform, received a distinct keynote segment. Its presence made XR a separate part of the event’s platform story rather than merely another Gemini feature. Google’s keynote video description lists the Android XR segment.
Developer tools, Android, web, and Cloud
The program also included developer-focused material across Android, web, and Cloud. Google presented Gemini model advances as tools for building applications and improving productivity, alongside broader developer resources. The Android Developers program lineup provides the event’s dates, keynote schedule, focus areas, and developer framing.

Security safeguards
Security safeguards for Gemini 2.5 were another program theme. Google’s I/O collection includes security material alongside its AI and developer-tool coverage, giving developers context for the safety considerations connected to Gemini features.

A keynote demo, an announced feature, a staged rollout, and a generally available product are different things. Google’s statement that Gemini Live camera and screen sharing were beginning to roll out is specifically a rollout update; it should not be read as universal availability on announcement day. For a particular feature, check its current product page or app before assuming it is available in your region or account.
