Google Play services version 26.39 reportedly describes two changes for Google Find Hub network tags: tapping a tag with an NFC-capable phone could open tag details and settings or help identify a lost tag, while a revised setup flow could let users choose a category, rename the tag, and configure options such as Left-Behind Reminders during registration. The report does not confirm when either feature will reach users or which tag models will support the NFC interaction.
What does NFC do on a Google Find Hub tag?
According to 9to5Google’s October 5, 2026 report, feature text in Google Play services version 26.39 describes using NFC to access Find Hub tag details and settings, or identify a lost tag by tapping the tag with a phone. In practical terms, the described interaction could make it quicker to see information about a tag someone has found, rather than relying only on its Bluetooth location.
This is a feature description reported from a software version, not confirmation of a general release. The report does not give a rollout date or say that the capability is available to all Find Hub users.
How do I register a tracker tag with Find Hub?
Google says compatible Bluetooth tracker tags are added to Find Hub automatically after pairing completes. The reported registration change would add choices to that initial setup rather than requiring users to configure them later in the app.

What the revised setup flow reportedly adds
9to5Google says users could select a category, rename the tag, and configure options such as Left-Behind Reminders when first registering a tag. It gives Bag, Bike, and Car as category examples. Previously, according to the report, these choices were handled in the Find Hub app after setup.
The potential benefit is fewer follow-up steps: users could identify what the tag is attached to and set relevant options as they pair it. The report does not establish that this revised flow has rolled out.

Can I tap a lost Find Hub tag with my phone?
The reported NFC feature is intended to let a phone tap a tag to access its details and settings or identify a lost tag. Whether that works in a specific situation depends on the phone and tag supporting the relevant NFC interaction; the report does not provide model-specific compatibility information.
NFC is distinct from UWB precision finding. Google says UWB-based precision finding requires UWB support on both the tag and the phone, with UWB enabled. Availability and performance vary by tag and phone model, according to Google Account Help. NFC’s reported tap interaction should not be mistaken for UWB’s nearby distance or directional guidance.

Which Find Hub tags support NFC?
That is not established by the available information. Google’s compatible-device directory lists Find Hub-compatible tracker tags from multiple brands, including Chipolo ONE Point, Chipolo CARD Point, Moto Tag, and Pebblebee Clip, Card, and Tag. It does not identify which models support the newly reported NFC capability. Find Hub compatibility alone is not evidence of support for this particular tap feature.
Google also cautions that availability, features, and specifications can vary by region, carrier, and device. Check the exact tag model’s specifications or ask its manufacturer for confirmation of this NFC function; the directory listing by itself cannot answer that question.

How does NFC fit with Find Hub’s lost-tag network?
NFC is a local tap interaction described for viewing tag information or identifying a found tag. It is separate from the network-based process used to locate a tag that is out of Bluetooth range. Google says Find Hub’s offline-finding network uses encrypted recent locations and end-to-end encrypted location information, and provides controls that determine whether a device participates in network finding. Details are in Google Account Help.
