Google Chrome for Android is Google’s free mobile web browser for Android phones and tablets. It is a standalone app—not the Google Search app and not Android System WebView—with tabs, bookmarks, downloads, Incognito, passwords, passkeys, translation, Lens, and optional Google Account sync.
Chrome is a strong choice if you use Chrome on a computer, rely on Google Password Manager, or want broad compatibility with modern websites. Its most important limitation is that desktop Chrome extensions do not normally run in Chrome for Android. Readers who need extensions, aggressive ad and tracker blocking, or less Google integration may be better served by Firefox, Brave, Samsung Internet, or Edge.
Latest stable release checked August 9, 2026: Google announced Chrome 151.0.7922.108 for Android on August 6, 2026. Google Play distributes updates in stages, so your phone may temporarily show another Chrome 151 patch build or an older build. Check the version installed on your device under Chrome → More → Settings → About Chrome. See Google’s Chrome Releases announcement.
What is Chrome for Android?
Chrome for Android is Google LLC’s mobile version of the Chrome browser. It uses the Chromium browser technology shared with desktop Chrome, but its interface and feature set are designed for touchscreens, phones, and tablets. It is related to desktop Chrome without being a feature-for-feature copy.

- Super Magnetic Attraction: Powerful built-in magnets, easier place-and-go wireless charging and compatible with MagSafe
- Compatibility: Only compatible with iPhone 13/14; precise cutouts for easy access to all ports, buttons, sensors and cameras, soft and sensitive buttons with good response, are easy to press
- Matte Translucent Back: Features a flexible TPU frame and a matte coating on the hard PC back to provide you with a premium touch and excellent grip, while the entire matte back coating perfectly blocks smudges, fingerprints and even scratches
- Shock Protection: Passing military drop tests up to 10 feet, your device is effectively protected from violent impacts and drops
- Check your phone model: Before you order, please confirm your phone model to find out which product is right for you
Chrome for Android includes a full browser experience: you can open multiple tabs, save bookmarks and reading-list items, download files, browse privately in Incognito, fill in forms, manage website permissions, and use Google services such as Search, Lens, and Translate.
It is different from two other Google-related Android components:
- Chrome: the complete browser app with its own tabs, history, bookmarks, settings, downloads, and optional synchronization.
- Google app: Google’s Search, Discover, voice-search, and feed application. It may open web results in a browser, but it is not Chrome itself.
- Android System WebView: an Android system component that lets other apps display web content inside the app. It is not a replacement for the Chrome browser.
You can use Chrome without signing in. Signing in mainly adds Google Account-backed features such as synchronization and cross-device continuity; it is not required to visit websites.
Should you use Chrome on Android?
| Chrome is a good fit if you want | Consider another browser if you need |
|---|---|
| Bookmarks, tabs, history, passwords, and settings shared with Chrome on a computer | Full desktop-style browser extensions on your phone |
| Google Password Manager and passkeys | Comprehensive built-in ad and tracker blocking |
| Google Search, Lens, Translate, and other Google services nearby | Minimal Google integration or stronger separation from Google services |
| Broad compatibility with modern websites | A highly configurable, desktop-like mobile browser |
| A familiar browser that may already be installed on your Android device | A different browser account ecosystem, such as Microsoft Edge with Windows |
Chrome is free to install and use, although websites, mobile data, Google One storage, and optional services may have their own costs.

Current Chrome for Android requires Android 10 or later. Chrome 138 was the last release supporting Android 8 and Android 9; Chrome 139 raised the minimum requirement to Android 10. Google’s support announcement explains the Android 8 and 9 change.
An older phone may continue running the last compatible Chrome version after support ends, but it will not receive current Chrome feature and security updates. The phone manufacturer or carrier controls whether the device itself can be upgraded.
Even on Android 10 or later, availability can be affected by:
- Google Play certification and regional distribution;
- available storage and network connectivity;
- hardware compatibility;
- manufacturer or carrier software;
- work, school, parental-control, or other managed-device policies.
Android and Chrome use different version numbers. For example, Android 15 or Android 16 is the operating-system version, not the Chrome version.

How to install Chrome safely
On most supported devices, install Chrome from the official Google Play listing:
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Search for Chrome.
- Select Google Chrome, published by Google LLC.
- Tap Install.
- Tap Open after installation finishes.
Use the official Chrome installation guide or the verified Google Play listing.
Do not download a supposed Chrome update from a random APK website. If Google Play is unavailable, sideloading becomes a separate security decision: the source must be verifiably official, the package identity must be correct, and its signature should be verified. An arbitrary APK mirror is not a safe substitute for Google Play.
How to update Chrome and check its version
Update through Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Manage apps and device.
- Under Updates available, find Chrome.
- Tap Update.
Chrome can also update automatically according to your Play Store settings. To see the installed build, open Chrome and select More ⋮ → Settings → About Chrome. Google’s Chrome update instructions cover the current process.
Chrome Beta can be installed alongside the normal stable Chrome app. It is a separate testing channel and does not replace the stable installation.
Why your version may differ: a release announcement identifies a Chrome channel and build, while Google Play rollout can be staggered by device, region, and account. Seeing a different patch number does not necessarily mean the update is broken.
How to make Chrome the default browser
- Open Android Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Default apps.
- Tap Browser app.
- Choose Chrome.
Menus vary by Android version and manufacturer. Search Android Settings for default browser if the labels differ. Google documents the standard route in its guide to setting Chrome as the default browser.
This setting does not delete another browser or stop you from opening it manually. It only determines which browser normally handles browser links.

What Chrome sync can provide
Signing in to Chrome with a Google Account can make selected browser data available on other signed-in devices. Depending on the settings you choose, this may include:
- bookmarks and reading-list items;
- saved passwords and passkeys;
- payment information, addresses, and phone numbers;
- browsing history and open tabs;
- settings and other browser preferences.
History and open tabs have their own synchronization controls. Signing in does not automatically mean that every category is being synchronized. Review the options in Chrome’s account and sync settings. Google explains how Chrome sign-in works and which data can be shared across devices in its cross-device Chrome data guide.
Signing in to Chrome is not the same as signing in to every website. However, Chrome may also sign you in to Google web services, and Google says Chrome history saved to your account may be used for personalization when Web & App Activity and the relevant Chrome setting are enabled.

If you browse without signing in, locally saved browser data remains on that device rather than being available through your Google Account for cross-device use. This does not prevent you from signing in separately to individual websites.
Sync passphrases
Advanced users can configure a custom sync passphrase for certain synchronized Chrome data. This adds a layer in which Google cannot read data protected by the passphrase. The passphrase does not protect payment methods or Google Pay addresses, and forgetting or resetting it has consequences for synchronized data and passwords. Read Google’s sync and passphrase documentation before enabling it.
Google Password Manager
Chrome for Android can save and autofill passwords and passkeys through Google Password Manager. Saved credentials can be used across compatible Android apps, websites, and other signed-in devices. You can manage them in Chrome, in Google Password Manager, or at passwords.google.com.
Useful functions include:
- generating strong passwords;
- saving passwords and filling them into websites;
- using passkeys with the device’s screen lock or other supported unlock method;
- warning about compromised, reused, or weak passwords;
- protecting stored credentials with on-device encryption options using the screen lock or Google password on compatible devices.
Saving a password in Chrome does not change the password on the website. It only stores the existing credential and can offer to fill it later. See Google’s Password Manager and passkey guide.
Chrome’s most useful Android features
Search, voice search, Lens, and Translate
Chrome’s address bar can search the web, open a URL, or start a voice search. Google Lens can search using an image or camera view, and Chrome can translate supported pages. Google’s Play listing advertises translation for more than 130 languages, but the exact languages and availability can vary by country, page, and language settings.
Depending on the page and device, you can also long-press images or text for contextual actions. Chrome’s Google integration is convenient, but it is one reason readers who want minimal Google involvement may prefer another browser.
Tabs, tab groups, bookmarks, reading list, and downloads
Chrome lets you keep multiple pages open, organize related tabs into groups, save bookmarks, add pages to a reading list, and download files. When the relevant sync settings are enabled, history and open tabs can appear on other signed-in devices.
Do not assume that every tab-group arrangement will look identical on Android, tablets, ChromeOS, and desktop Chrome. The available organization tools and layout can differ by device and Chrome release.
Reading mode
Reading mode removes much of a supported page’s surrounding layout and presents text in a more readable format. On an eligible page:
- Open the page.
- Tap More ⋮.
- Tap Show Reading mode.
- Adjust the font, size, or background color.
It is not available for every page and is a poor fit for interactive forms, maps, video-heavy pages, and login screens. See Google’s Reading mode instructions.
Listen to this page
On eligible pages, Chrome can read the content aloud:
- Tap More ⋮.
- Tap Listen to this page.
- Choose standard playback or AI playback when offered.
- Adjust speed, voice, highlighting, or automatic scrolling.
The feature is not available on every website. Standard and AI playback have different language and settings requirements. Google says playback can continue while you browse other tabs or lock the screen. Details are in the Listen to this page guide.
Page zoom and accessibility
To enlarge an individual page, select More ⋮ → Zoom. To make the zoom control easier to access across pages, enable Settings → Accessibility → Show Zoom. Page zoom is especially useful on websites that do not respond well to Android’s system text-size settings. See Google’s Chrome page-zoom instructions.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
PDFs on Android
On Android 12 and later, Chrome can open PDFs without requiring a separate PDF reader. You can scroll, zoom, select text, search within the document, download it, or open it in another viewer.
The Edit action hands the PDF to Google Drive, where supported tools include a pen, highlighter, eraser, undo, and redo. This is not the same as desktop Chrome’s PDF-editing experience.
Chrome cannot open PDFs directly in Incognito. In an Incognito session, it prompts you to download the file instead. Google lists the Android PDF requirements and workflow in its PDF help page.
Tablet multitasking
On an Android tablet, drag a Chrome tab to the edge of the screen to open a new Chrome window and trigger Android split-screen mode. This is Android’s multitasking behavior, not the same feature as desktop Chrome’s own Split view. See Google’s tablet split-screen guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsGemini in Chrome
Google has announced Gemini-powered Chrome features for Android, including page summaries and questions, connections to Google apps, image generation or customization, and auto-browse actions for certain errands. The initial announcement described a limited rollout for selected U.S. Android devices running Android 12 or later with at least 4 GB of RAM.
Do not treat Gemini in Chrome as a universal feature. Availability can depend on country, language, device, Android version, account, service eligibility, and staged rollout. Sensitive actions require confirmation according to Google’s announcement. Check your own Chrome interface and the latest Google Gemini-in-Chrome information.

Security features in Chrome for Android
Chrome includes several concrete security protections, although no browser makes every website safe:
- Safe Browsing: warnings for many phishing, malware, deceptive, and abusive sites.
- Safety Check: a review of issues involving passwords, Safe Browsing, Chrome updates, unused permissions, and potentially unwanted or abusive notifications.
- Automatic updates: Chrome updates through Google Play when the device and Play Store can receive them.
- Compromised-password alerts: warnings when saved credentials are known to be exposed or otherwise unsafe.
- HTTPS upgrades: an option to prefer secure HTTPS connections.
- Secure DNS: an option to encrypt DNS lookups through a selected provider or Chrome’s automatic mode.
- Site-permission controls: management for location, camera, microphone, notifications, motion sensors, and other access.
- Android Advanced Protection integration: available on compatible devices and accounts.
Run Safety Check
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More ⋮ → Settings.
- Tap Safety check.
- Review each result and resolve issues you recognize.
Google’s Chrome safety and security documentation describes the checks and related settings.
The Tool Desk

- Open More ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security.
- Under Security, enable Always use secure connections.
- Choose whether to warn for public sites only or for public and private sites.
Public sites are generally internet websites; private sites may include workplace or home-network addresses. The stricter setting can cause problems with legacy intranets or HTTP-only sites, so use an exception or turn it off temporarily when you understand the risk.
Use Secure DNS carefully
- Open More ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security.
- Tap Use secure DNS.
- Turn it on or off, or select a provider.
Chrome’s automatic mode can fall back to unencrypted DNS when it encounters lookup problems. Work or school management and parental controls may remove or restrict this option. If a site suddenly stops resolving after changing DNS, return to Automatic or turn the feature off for testing.
Privacy settings worth reviewing
Incognito is local privacy, not anonymity
Incognito is useful when you do not want ordinary browsing history and site data left in the regular Chrome profile after the session ends. It is not a VPN, an anonymity service, or a way to disappear from the websites and networks you use.
| Incognito generally does | Incognito does not do |
|---|---|
| Keep visited pages out of the regular local browsing history after the session ends | Hide activity from websites, internet providers, employers, schools, administrators, or parental-monitoring software |
| Start websites without the normal signed-in Chrome session | Prevent identification when you sign in to a website |
| Discard normal Incognito cookies and site data when all Incognito windows close | Delete downloads or bookmarks you deliberately create |
| Block third-party cookies by default, subject to the available settings | Stop websites from collecting information under their own privacy policies |
On Android 11 and later, you can lock Incognito tabs when you leave Chrome:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open More ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security.
- Enable Lock Incognito tabs when you leave Chrome.
Android also restricts screenshots in Incognito. If you need a screenshot, open the page in a regular tab. Read Google’s explanations of how Incognito works and using Incognito on Android.
Third-party cookies
- Open More ⋮ → Settings.
- Tap Site settings → Third-party cookies.
- Allow or block them, or create a site-specific exception.
Blocking third-party cookies can break embedded videos, social feeds, payment flows, federated sign-ins, and other cross-site functions. If one login or payment flow fails, try a targeted exception for that site before allowing cookies globally. Cookie changes can also affect site preferences and sign you out.
Site permissions
Go to More ⋮ → Settings → Site settings, usually under Advanced, and select a permission category. Depending on the permission and Android version, choices may include Allow this time, Allow while visiting the site, or Never allow.
Review location, camera, microphone, motion sensors, pop-ups, redirects, and notifications. A site should not need a permanent permission merely because it displayed a prompt.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Notifications
To review websites allowed to send notifications, open More ⋮ → Settings → Site settings → Notifications. Remove unfamiliar sites from the allowed list. Chrome can also recommend blocking intrusive or misleading notifications.
For a notification that is currently appearing, open the site, tap the page-information icon beside the address bar, tap Permissions, and turn Notifications off. See Google’s notification controls.
Ads and ad privacy
Chrome’s built-in ad control targets intrusive ad experiences, such as excessive ads, flashing ads, autoplaying audio, or difficult-to-dismiss ad walls. It is not equivalent to a full ad-blocking extension and does not block every advertisement or tracker.
Chrome also includes controls for ad topics, site-suggested ads, and ad measurement. Review them under Settings → Privacy and security → Ad privacy. Google’s intrusive-ad guide and ad-privacy documentation explain these controls.
Do not rely on Do Not Track as an ad blocker. Google notes that most websites, including Google’s, do not necessarily change their behavior when they receive a Do Not Track request. The setting is a preference signal, not enforcement. Learn about Do Not Track.
What the Play Store privacy label means
Google Play currently presents Chrome’s Data safety information as developer-provided. The listing says Chrome may collect location and personal information among other categories and says data is encrypted in transit. These declarations can vary by region, use, and future releases, and they are not an independent privacy audit. Do not interpret a “no data shared with third parties” label as proof that Chrome collects no data or that Google cannot associate activity with an account. Review the current Chrome Play listing and Google’s account and browser controls for your situation.
Does Chrome for Android support extensions?
No—not in the same way as desktop Chrome. Chrome for Android does not provide the normal Chrome Web Store extension runtime for installing and running desktop extensions on a phone. Google’s extension help describes extension installation and management as desktop functionality. On a phone, the documented action is typically Add to Desktop, which queues the extension for a signed-in desktop Chrome installation rather than running it in Android Chrome.
This matters if you need uBlock Origin-style extensions, password-manager extensions, developer tools, custom content scripts, or compatibility with a desktop Chrome Web Store workflow. Consider Firefox for Android or another browser instead of assuming a desktop extension will work on Chrome mobile.

Common Chrome limitations and failure points
- No ordinary desktop extension support: Android Chrome and desktop Chrome are not interchangeable.
- Limited ad blocking: intrusive-ad protection is not comprehensive page, ad, or tracker blocking.
- Feature variability: Lens, Translate, Reading mode, Listen to this page, PDF tools, and Gemini can depend on Android version, device, language, region, account, hardware, and rollout.
- Older Android support: Android 8 and 9 cannot receive current Chrome releases.
- Memory pressure: many open tabs, downloads, and other running apps can cause slowdowns, tab reloads, freezing, or crashes, especially on low-memory devices.
- Restrictive privacy settings: blocking cookies, pop-ups, JavaScript, permissions, or secure-DNS requests can break logins, payments, embedded content, and older websites.
Troubleshooting Chrome for Android
Chrome will not install
- Confirm the phone runs Android 10 or later.
- Check that Google Play is signed in and working.
- Check available storage and network connectivity.
- Restart the phone and try the official Play listing again.
- Check whether a work, school, carrier, or parental-control policy blocks installation.
- Confirm that the device is Google Play-certified and that Chrome is available in your region.
Do not substitute a random “Chrome update APK” for the official installation route. On a preinstalled or managed device, the manufacturer or administrator may control what can be installed.

An update is missing or fails
- Confirm Android 10 or later.
- Open Play Store → profile icon → Manage apps and device and check for Chrome.
- Check storage, Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity, battery, and date/time settings.
- Restart the phone.
- Update Google Play Store and Google Play services if the Play Store itself is malfunctioning.
- In Chrome, check More ⋮ → Settings → About Chrome.
- Allow time for a staged Google Play rollout; not every device receives the same patch at once.
- If Chrome is preinstalled and behaving strangely, open Settings → Apps → Chrome, disable it if the option is available, then re-enable it and check for updates.
- As a last resort, clear Play Store cache or data, understanding that this resets Play Store state and may require sign-in again.
Use Google’s official update guide rather than an unofficial download.
Chrome crashes, freezes, or shows “Aw, Snap!”
- Close unused Chrome tabs.
- Close other memory-intensive apps.
- Pause active downloads.
- Reload the page.
- Force-close and reopen Chrome.
- Restart the Android device.
- Try the same page in another browser to determine whether the problem is site-specific.
- Test the page in Incognito to see whether normal profile data is involved.
- Update Chrome and Android where updates are available.
- Clear browsing data selectively; avoid deleting everything before confirming that important data is synchronized.
- Reinstall Chrome, or disable and re-enable a preinstalled copy, if the installation appears damaged.
Low available memory, too many tabs or apps, downloads, network problems, and a broken website can all cause failures. Google’s guides cover Chrome crashes and connection and loading errors.
A page works in Incognito but not in normal Chrome
This usually points to a cookie, cached site-data, permission, or sign-in-session problem rather than a different internet connection.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11- Open the affected page in Incognito.
- If it works, return to a normal tab.
- Clear cookies and site data for that site first rather than deleting all browsing data.
- Review the site’s permissions.
- Temporarily create a third-party-cookie exception if login, payment, embedded media, or federated authentication is failing.
- Close and reopen the page.
Deleting site data can sign you out and remove preferences, but it preserves unrelated history, saved passwords, and other sites’ data when done selectively. Use Google’s cookie-management instructions.
Pages will not load or logins loop
- Check whether the problem affects one website or every website.
- Reload, then try Wi-Fi and mobile data separately.
- Check Chrome’s date and time environment and Android’s network connection.
- Review third-party-cookie, JavaScript, pop-up, redirect, camera, or location permissions required by the service.
- Temporarily test with Secure DNS disabled or Automatic if DNS changes preceded the problem.
- Clear the affected site’s cookies and storage.
- Try a regular tab and Incognito, remembering that Incognito can itself change login behavior.
- Contact the website if it fails in multiple browsers.
Pop-ups, redirects, or unwanted notifications appear
Separate the symptom before fixing it:
- Website notification: remove the site from Chrome’s allowed notifications list.
- Pop-up or redirect: review pop-up and redirect permissions and avoid interacting with deceptive prompts.
- Ads inside one normal webpage: Chrome’s intrusive-ad controls may help, but do not promise complete ad blocking.
- Ads across the entire phone: suspect an unwanted Android app, not necessarily Chrome.
For device-wide ads or repeated redirects, review recently installed apps, boot Android into Safe Mode if necessary, remove suspicious apps, and ensure Google Play Protect is enabled. Google’s unwanted ads, pop-ups, and malware guide provides the recovery steps.
Missing tabs, bookmarks, or passwords
- Confirm that Chrome is signed in to the same Google Account on both devices.
- Check the relevant sync categories; history and open tabs are not necessarily enabled automatically.
- Check the account’s Chrome data on another signed-in device.
- Do not clear Chrome app data or reset a sync passphrase until you understand what is stored locally and what is synchronized.
- Remember that Incognito tabs do not become normal synchronized tabs.
If you use a custom sync passphrase, you may need it to restore encrypted sync data. Resetting or losing the passphrase can affect synchronized data and passwords.
Chrome is disabled or cannot be uninstalled
Chrome is preinstalled on many Android phones. A preinstalled copy often cannot be fully uninstalled like a downloaded app. Depending on the manufacturer, you may be able to remove updates, disable Chrome, or simply choose another default browser. Try Settings → Apps → Chrome and look for Disable, Uninstall updates, or similar options. Google’s uninstall and disable guide explains the distinction.
Chrome alternatives for Android
| Your priority | Browser to investigate | Relevant trade-off or reason |
|---|---|---|
| Android browser extensions | Firefox for Android | Mozilla documents add-on installation through Firefox’s Android Add-ons Manager, although not every desktop add-on is compatible. See Mozilla’s guide. |
| Built-in ad and tracker blocking | Brave | Brave says Shields block third-party ads, trackers, cross-site cookies, phishing, and fingerprinting by default, with per-site controls. See Brave Shields. |
| Galaxy-device integration and ad blockers | Samsung Internet | Samsung documents installable ad blockers through Samsung Internet’s Tools menu and Galaxy Store ecosystem. See Samsung’s ad-blocker guide. |
| Microsoft account and Windows continuity | Microsoft Edge | Edge can synchronize favorites, passwords, history, open tabs, autofill, payment information, and other data across desktop and mobile. See Microsoft’s sync guide. |
None is universally better. Chrome is the sensible default when Google integration and compatibility matter most; the alternatives become more attractive when extensions, aggressive blocking, or a non-Google ecosystem is the deciding factor.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Google Chrome for Android free?
Yes. Chrome is free to download and use from Google Play. Websites, mobile data, Google One storage, and some optional services may cost money separately.
Is Chrome already installed on Android phones?
Chrome is preinstalled on many Android devices, but not all. Users can choose another browser and change the default browser.
Can I uninstall Chrome from Android?
A downloaded copy can normally be uninstalled. A preinstalled copy often cannot be fully removed; the available options may be Disable or Uninstall updates under Settings → Apps → Chrome.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does Chrome for Android support desktop Chrome extensions?
Not normally. Chrome for Android does not provide the standard desktop Chrome extension runtime. Google’s “Add to Desktop” action sends an extension to a signed-in desktop Chrome installation rather than running it on the phone.
Is Incognito mode truly private?
No. Incognito mainly prevents ordinary history and site data from remaining in the normal local Chrome profile. Websites, signed-in services, employers, schools, administrators, and internet providers may still observe activity.
Does Chrome block all ads?
No. Chrome blocks or limits certain intrusive ad formats, but it is not a comprehensive ad and tracker blocker. Consider Brave, Samsung Internet with a compatible blocker, or a browser that supports suitable extensions.
Can Chrome sync with my computer?
Yes. Sign in to Chrome with the same Google Account and enable the categories you want. Bookmarks, passwords, passkeys, history, open tabs, settings, and other data have separate or configurable sync behavior.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDoes current Chrome work on Android 9?
No. Current Chrome requires Android 10 or later. Chrome 138 was the last release supporting Android 8 and Android 9; an older compatible version may remain installed without receiving current updates.
Can Chrome open and edit PDFs on Android?
On Android 12 and later, Chrome can open PDFs, search and select text, download them, and hand them to Google Drive for annotation. PDFs cannot be opened directly in Chrome Incognito; Chrome prompts you to download them.

It depends on your priority. Chrome is strongest for Google Account continuity and broad compatibility; Firefox is worth investigating for Android extensions, Brave for built-in ad and tracker blocking, Samsung Internet for Galaxy workflows, and Edge for Microsoft and Windows integration.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Chrome for Android is a capable, secure, and widely compatible browser, especially for people already using Google services or Chrome on a computer. Install and update it through Google Play, keep Android supported, review sync and privacy settings instead of assuming their defaults, and treat Incognito as local privacy—not anonymity. If full extensions or aggressive ad and tracker blocking are essential, choose a browser designed for those priorities rather than expecting desktop Chrome features on Android.
