Google and Constellation announced agreements on October 6, 2026—not merely a deal they are still negotiating. The package combines a 20-year agreement supporting upgrades that are expected to add 890 MW of capacity at existing nuclear plants, a separate 15-year agreement for 2,700 MW from Constellation’s existing fleet, and a five-year Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise technology collaboration. Those figures describe different parts of the package, not one 3,590 MW block of new generation.
What did Google and Constellation agree to?
The companies’ October 6, 2026 announcement describes three components: a long-term power purchase agreement tied to plant upgrades, a separate energy supply agreement, and an expanded technology agreement.

The terms above are as described by Google and Constellation; the announcement does not provide customer-specific pricing or a breakdown of how the power will be allocated to Google’s facilities.
What does the 890 MW figure mean?
The 890 MW is planned additional capacity from uprates—upgrades that allow existing nuclear units to produce more electricity—not capacity from a newly constructed reactor. Constellation says the work represents more than $4.3 billion in new investment. The companies say the first uprate is expected by 2028, so that milestone is a future expectation rather than a completed increase in output.

The separate 2,700 MW agreement covers energy supply from Constellation’s existing PJM fleet. It should not be added to the 890 MW and described as new nuclear capacity: the announcement distinguishes upgraded capacity from contracted supply from existing generation.
Why are the companies making the agreements?
Google says data-center growth is driving its need for electricity. The companies present the nuclear agreements as a way to support reliable generation on the PJM grid while meeting rising demand. The announcement also describes load shaping and demand response intended to reduce non-critical consumption during periods of grid stress.

These are stated goals and design features, not evidence that household bills have fallen, emissions have changed, or grid reliability has improved. The available announcements and contemporaneous reporting do not establish realized effects on those outcomes.
What else do the companies say the project could support?
Google and Constellation estimate that the agreements will sustain approximately 4,400 existing jobs and support approximately 7,200 new construction jobs. These are company estimates, not independently audited results. Google also cites more than 1.5 GW of new U.S. nuclear capacity enabled through uprates and restarts across its broader portfolio; that portfolio figure is not the capacity of this Constellation agreement alone.

Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez said preserving and expanding existing nuclear output is important to meeting energy demand while keeping costs affordable. That is the company executive’s position, not independent evidence that customer costs will decline.
How does this compare with Constellation’s Amazon agreement?
Constellation and Amazon announced a separate 20-year agreement for the Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland on September 30, 2026. Constellation said that agreement would support more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment and about 190 MW of new generation. It is distinct from Google’s agreements: it concerns a different plant and announced capacity, and its figures should not be combined with the Google package.

The October 6 announcement sets out contract durations, planned upgrade capacity, investment, and the technology collaboration, but it does not establish the eventual effect on electricity bills, emissions, or reliability. It also describes the first uprate as expected by 2028, not as already delivered. Those outcomes will require evidence beyond the companies’ stated aims and estimates.
