Google Ads’ reported “Direct offer” asset could let retailers define promotions for display in AI Mode, but the October 2026 beta report is not an official Google product specification. PPC News Feed says the asset can be attached at account or campaign level and serves only on campaigns using AI Max or text customization. Google’s official description confirms a broader Direct Offers pilot, not those specific interface details.

What Google’s Direct Offers pilot does

Google describes Direct Offers as a way for advertisers to present exclusive promotions to shoppers who are ready to buy in AI Mode. In a February 2026 Ads Decoded episode, Google said a small group of U.S. advertisers was participating in the pilot. Retailers provide offer choices and codes in Merchant Center, while Google’s AI determines when an offer is relevant. Google initially focused on discounts and said it planned to expand to offers such as bundles and free shipping. Google’s February 2026 explanation offers context for the feature, but does not verify the later Google Ads asset.

Google’s example of a “special 20% off discount” is illustrative; it is not a reported pilot-wide result or required discount. Google has not published a named performance statistic for Direct Offers in the sources available here.

What the reported Google Ads asset includes

PPC News Feed reported on October 7, 2026 that a beta-labeled “Direct offer” asset had appeared in Google Ads. The report describes a setup form with controls for an offer’s details and eligibility. These are trade-publication observations, not specifications confirmed in Google’s official documentation. Read PPC News Feed’s report.

  • Offer details: an internal offer name, a short description intended to help Google’s AI assess relevance and generate offer wording, plus an incentive type and amount. The report says advertisers can enter multiple incentives for the AI to choose among.
  • Destination: a final URL for the offer.
  • Codes and terms: optional CSV upload of single-use promo codes, optional terms, and an optional terms URL.
  • Timing and limits: start and end dates, and optional daily claim limits set by value or number of claims.

The report says the offer may appear as a “Claim one-time code” bar beneath a sponsored result in AI Mode. Selecting it opens a card showing a code and a “Continue to site” button. Google has not officially confirmed this presentation in the cited material.

Where the asset can be set up—and what campaigns reportedly qualify

PPC News Feed says the asset can be added at either account or campaign level, and that offers serve only on campaigns using AI Max or text customization. The report does not establish how broadly the beta is available, which accounts qualify, or whether those requirements have changed. Google’s official pilot description does not confirm these specific asset settings.

If you are considering implementation, check the current asset options and eligibility shown in your own Google Ads account rather than assuming the beta is available to every advertiser. The February 2026 pilot was described as limited to a small group of U.S. advertisers; that does not establish the October 2026 asset’s rollout geography.

How to think about configuring an offer

If the asset is available in your account, the reported controls suggest a few practical decisions. These are considerations based on the fields PPC News Feed describes, not official Google setup guidance:

  • Choose the setup level: use account-level setup for an offer intended to apply broadly, or campaign-level setup when its audience or destination is specific to a campaign.
  • Define the incentive clearly: provide an accurate type and amount, and a concise description that makes the offer understandable and relevant.
  • Decide whether codes are needed: if using single-use promo codes, confirm that the uploaded codes are valid and can be redeemed as described.
  • Set boundaries: include applicable terms and dates, and consider a daily claim cap if the promotion has a limited budget or inventory.
  • Check the destination: make sure the final URL leads to a page where shoppers can understand and redeem the stated offer.

Does an AI Mode offer mean you are discounting a purchase that would happen anyway?

That is a valid concern, and Google’s February episode says advertisers raised the question of whether Direct Offers would reach shoppers already likely to purchase. The available description explains that Google’s AI chooses when an offer is relevant; it does not establish whether offers create incremental sales or how often they subsidize purchases that would otherwise occur. No named performance result in the cited sources answers that question. Treat incrementality as unproven rather than assuming the feature will lift sales.

What is confirmed, and what remains unverified

Google’s official material supports the existence of a Direct Offers pilot in AI Mode, its retailer-provided offers and codes, and Google AI’s role in deciding when an offer is relevant. The account- or campaign-level asset, AI Max or text customization requirement, form fields, claim limits, and reported display are details attributed to PPC News Feed’s October 7, 2026 report. The official source does not confirm the specific asset interface, its eligibility rules, or its rollout beyond the earlier limited U.S. pilot description.
