The 2026 Golden Joystick Awards are public-voted awards: fans choose winners from a shortlist selected by a judging panel of Future editors and games journalists. The rules refer to “millions of fans worldwide,” so participation is intended to extend beyond the UK, but no country-by-country eligibility list has been published. The main public ballot closes on October 23, 2026; a separate Ultimate Game of the Year vote runs October 26–30.
Who can vote in the 2026 Golden Joystick Awards?
The awards are designed as a public ballot for people who buy and play games. The official rules describe them as “the people’s awards” and say that this is why they have special significance in the gaming calendar. They also refer to “millions of fans worldwide,” which supports participation by players outside the United Kingdom.
The public does not decide which games appear on the shortlist. A judging panel chooses the final nominees, after which the public selects winners in the categories opened for voting. GamesRadar identifies the panel’s wider contributor network as including journalists from PC Gamer, Future Games Show, Edge, Retro Gamer, GamesRadar and other industry experts.
Can people outside the UK vote?
Nothing in the published 2026 material limits voting to UK residents. The worldwide-fan wording indicates that the ballot is intended for an international audience. However, the published pages do not provide a country list, a list of excluded territories or a formal statement that every country is eligible. If the live ballot displays regional terms, those terms control for your location.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Is there an age requirement?
No age rule for the ballot appears in the published information. Do not assume that the absence of a stated age requirement means every age group is automatically eligible; check the live ballot’s terms before submitting a vote.
How the public vote works
Nomination and shortlist stages
- Nominations opened on August 6, 2026. This was the period for putting forward potential nominees.
- Nominations closed on August 28, 2026, at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST.
- The shortlist and main public ballot opened on September 25, 2026. The judging panel selected the final shortlist from the pool considered.
- Public voting closes on October 23, 2026. The published schedule gives the date but not a universal closing time.
- Ultimate Game of the Year (UGOTY) has its own ballot from October 26–30, 2026.
- The ceremony is scheduled for November 11, 2026, at Troxy in London.
What happens after you finish the ballot?
GamesRadar says voters can enter an email address and click “Register my Votes” after completing their selections. That action may be needed to record the ballot or claim the voter reward, but the published explanation does not establish that entering an email creates a particular vote allowance.
The 2026 voter offer is a free ebook stated to be worth up to £12.99 or $18.99. Treat it as an accompanying promotion rather than evidence of voting eligibility: the value is quoted by the publisher, and the offer’s availability and terms should be read on the live ballot.

How many votes can one person cast?
No published source states a numeric per-person limit. The available information also does not explicitly promise a one-vote-per-category rule. Because the ballot may use registration or other controls that are explained only in its live terms, follow the instructions shown when you vote rather than relying on assumptions about duplicate submissions.
For context, GamesRadar reported more than 21 million votes across the 2025 categories. That figure is a historical total for the 2025 awards, not a 2026 quota or prediction.

| Ballot or category group | Release-eligibility window | Selection and exceptions |
|---|---|---|
| Core public-vote categories | Usually November 1, 2025 through September 25, 2026 | Rules allow possible exceptions for games released early in the public-voting window. |
| Still Playing Award | Older ongoing or online games may qualify | This is a category-specific exception to the ordinary new-release window. |
| Best Game Expansion | Older games can qualify when the eligible work is an expansion | Expansion eligibility is treated separately from the base game’s original release date. |
| Most Wanted Game | Games scheduled for release after November 11, 2026 | The category is for anticipated releases beyond the ceremony date. |
| Ultimate Game of the Year | November 8, 2025 through October 25, 2026 | Limited exceptions may apply to releases early in the window; the public ballot runs October 26–30. |
| Critically selected categories | November 20, 2025 through November 11, 2026 | These categories use a different window from the core public ballot. |
Why the September 25 date matters
September 25 is both the shortlist announcement date and the usual end of the core public-vote eligibility period. A title released after that date is not automatically excluded from every Golden Joystick consideration, because the rules describe exceptions for early releases during the public-voting window and separate windows for UGOTY, Most Wanted, ongoing games and expansions.
Ongoing games, online games and expansions
The ordinary release window is not the only route to eligibility. Older ongoing or online games can be considered for Still Playing, while an expansion can qualify for Best Game Expansion even when the underlying game launched earlier. These exceptions prevent the awards from treating continuing services and newly released add-on content exactly like a brand-new standalone game.

What the published rules do not settle
Several practical questions remain unanswered in the public 2026 material. They should be checked against the terms displayed by the live ballot:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Country restrictions: no country-by-country eligibility list or regional exclusion list is published.
- Age: no ballot age rule is stated.
- Vote cap: no numeric per-person limit is stated.
- One vote per category: the published pages do not explicitly establish this rule.
- Closing time: October 23 is given as the main deadline, but no universal time is provided.
These are unresolved terms, not evidence that restrictions do or do not exist. The ballot’s current terms are the appropriate authority for a voter deciding whether a submission will be accepted.
How to cast a vote without missing the deadline
- Open the live 2026 Golden Joystick ballot before October 23. Use the current ballot rather than an archived nomination page.
- Check the category list and shortlist. The public vote applies to the listed categories, while the shortlist itself was selected by the judging panel.
- Review each category’s candidates. For ongoing games, expansions or anticipated releases, make sure you are using the category designed for that type of title.
- Submit your selections using the ballot controls. Follow any on-screen instructions about required fields, regional access or duplicate submissions.
- Enter your email and select “Register my Votes” if prompted. This is the published completion action and may be necessary to record votes or claim the ebook offer.
- Keep the confirmation shown by the ballot. If the page provides a receipt or confirmation message, save it before closing the browser.
- Return for UGOTY if you want to participate. Ultimate Game of the Year uses a separate public ballot from October 26 through October 30, with its own release window.
What happens after public voting?
The public ballot determines winners in the categories opened to voters. The judging panel remains responsible for creating the shortlist, so the process combines editorial selection at the nomination stage with fan selection at the winner stage. That division explains why a game can be eligible under the release rules yet not appear on the ballot: eligibility does not guarantee a shortlist place.
The ceremony is scheduled for November 11, 2026, at Troxy in London. The ceremony date is later than the main ballot deadline and the UGOTY voting period, allowing those public results to be finalized before the event.
