What were the latest reported gold and silver prices?
The figures below come from different providers and use different quote conventions and comparison baselines. They should not be combined into one undifferentiated “today” price.

Kitco reported October 2 intraday ranges of $4,124.50–$4,226.20 for gold and $59.57–$62.20 for silver. Its bid and ask figures are Kitco’s time-stamped quotes, not an LBMA benchmark fixing.
Why do some figures show gains while others show losses?
The apparent conflict comes from comparing different dates and baselines. GoldPrice.com’s October 1 close table records gains against the previous close. Its October 2 afternoon gold quote instead compares gold with the last LBMA PM fix and shows a decline. Kitco’s October 2 listing uses its own timestamped bid-and-ask quotes and reports declines for both metals.

A percentage change only makes sense alongside the price convention and comparison point. Before comparing two reports, check the date and time, provider, unit, and whether the change is measured against a prior fix, prior close, or another reference.
What do spot quotes, benchmark fixes, and settlements mean?
A time-specific spot quote is not interchangeable with a benchmark fixing or an exchange settlement. The LBMA explains that its Gold and Silver Price benchmarks are prices for unallocated gold and silver delivered in London; ICE Benchmark Administration Limited administers them. When reporting or comparing a price, identify its publisher, observation time, unit, and baseline.

How do these figures compare with August?
For historical context only, CME Group’s September 2026 monthly update reported that gold settled August at $4,481.50 per ounce, up 9.1% month over month, while silver settled at $66.990 per ounce, up 15.9% month over month. Those are August settlement figures; they are not October 2 quotes and cannot establish the direction of a later session.

Not on the evidence available here. CME Group’s Q3 2026 overview describes gold’s safe-haven role amid macroeconomic uncertainty. It also characterizes silver as both a precious and industrial metal, with electronics and AI among longer-term demand areas. Those broad factors do not establish what caused the October 2 daily declines.
