For most players, the Standard Edition is the better buy. It delivers the complete game for PS4 or PS5 at a much lower launch price and is the straightforward choice if you want a disc, ordinary resale, or simply the game. The Collector’s Edition is worth its premium only when you place substantial personal value on its 16-inch Mjölnir replica, display pieces, dice and presentation box. It supplies the game with a printed voucher rather than a disc, and its steelbook is an empty display case.
That makes this a preference decision, not an investment decision. No published valuation study establishes that the physical items reliably appreciate or recover the premium.

Standard Edition: the complete game with the least complication
PlayStation’s official description says the Standard Edition, in both digital and physical forms, includes the full game for either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. A physical PS4/PS5 package gives you a conventional disc-based copy. A digital purchase gives you the entitlement through the PlayStation Store.

The original US PlayStation Store listing recorded $69.99 for the PS4/PS5 Standard Edition and $59.99 for a PS4-only version. Storefront discounts can lower those amounts, so they should be treated as list prices from the cited listing rather than a guaranteed current price. PlayStation also documented a $10 PS4-to-PS5 upgrade, or the local equivalent, for the PS4 version. Check the store page for the account and region in which you intend to use the upgrade.
Collector’s Edition: a large physical bundle around a digital game license
The Collector’s Edition changes the nature of the purchase. Instead of putting a Blu-ray in the box, PlayStation included a printed voucher for the full PS4/PS5 game. The box contains collectibles and a steelbook for display, but the steelbook itself is not a game container.
The official PlayStation Blog unboxing description is explicit: “A Steelbook Display Case (no game disc included) – The God of War Ragnarök Steelbook Display Case depicts renditions of the Bear and the Wolf.” That distinction matters if you collect discs, lend games, or expect a normal physical copy to resell.

How much more does the Collector’s Edition cost?
Documented Southeast Asian launch pricing
PlayStation’s 2022 suggested retail prices for Southeast Asia were SGD 97.90 for the PS5 Standard Edition, in disc or digital form, and SGD 279 for the Collector’s Edition. The arithmetic difference is SGD 181.10 before taxes, retailer pricing or any later resale transaction.
Those are regional launch recommendations, not a universal current price. Converting SGD 279 into another currency, or treating it as a present-day price in a different country, would be misleading. A buyer should compare the actual price in the relevant market and condition.

The US PlayStation Store listing recorded an original $69.99 price for the PS4/PS5 Standard Edition, $59.99 for PS4-only, and $79.99 for Digital Deluxe. These are storefront list prices from the cited listing and may be discounted. The cited US listing does not provide a US launch MSRP for the Collector’s Edition, so no US premium can be calculated from the documented figures.
The disc-versus-voucher decision
The absence of a game disc is the most important practical difference that is easy to miss in product photos. A Collector’s buyer receives the game through a printed voucher and receives an empty steelbook for display. A Standard physical buyer receives an ordinary game disc; a Standard digital buyer receives a digital license without any physical package.
Why disc collectors may prefer Standard
- A disc can be lent, traded or sold as a conventional game copy, subject to the usual regional and account considerations.
- The Standard physical package is easier to understand when buying used because the game media is visible and testable.
- You avoid paying for a steelbook that cannot hold the game disc.
Why a voucher may be acceptable
- You already buy digitally and do not need physical media.
- Your priority is the Mjölnir replica and other objects rather than a boxed disc.
- You are buying a complete, unused set and are prepared to redeem the entitlement on the intended PlayStation account.
Do not assume that the word “steelbook” means “steelbook game edition.” In this bundle it describes a display case only.

When Standard Edition is the better value
You mainly want to play Ragnarök
If the game itself is the objective, Standard supplies the same core game at the lowest documented entry price. The Collector’s physical pieces do not add missions, story chapters or a different game campaign in the documented contents.
You want a physical disc
Choose the physical Standard package when having the game on a disc is part of the point of ownership. It is the cleanest option for a disc shelf, lending and conventional resale.
You are budget-conscious or buying for a first-time player
The documented Southeast Asian launch figures put the Collector’s Edition SGD 181.10 above PS5 Standard. That difference can be difficult to justify for someone who has no particular interest in the collectibles. Standard also avoids paying for shelf space and packaging that may remain in storage.
You expect to sell the game later
A normal Standard physical copy is easier for a future buyer to identify and use. A Collector’s set can be sold, but its condition and completeness become part of the transaction: the voucher, display case, hammer, carvings, dice and box all matter. No reliable resale premium for complete sets has been established.
When Collector’s Edition can be worth it

You want a coordinated display set
The Vanir Twins carvings, Dwarven Dice Set and Bear-and-Wolf steelbook create a themed group rather than a single piece of merchandise. Checklist for a new listing
- Confirm that the listing is for the God of War Ragnarök Collector’s Edition, not a standard, Digital Deluxe or another merchandise bundle.
