Recent announcements span planned AI campuses in Europe and Saudi Arabia, construction financing in the United States, and project finance in Chile. The figures below distinguish proposed capacity from a financed phase or work underway, and equity commitments from borrowing and project values. This is a selected roundup of announcements published from July 2025 through August 2026, not a census of global projects.

What new data center projects and financing have been announced?

Each entry reports what the named company or project partners announced. Announced investment, capacity, and financing are not interchangeable: a proposed campus target does not mean that capacity is built, and a project’s stated value is not necessarily its debt amount.

Location and organizations Announcement and stage Capacity or scale Capital and financing announced What is established about delivery
Seinäjoki, Finland — Pure DC Phase 1 announcement, July 14, 2026; senior-debt announcement, July 21, 2026 Phase 1: 110 MW. Potential campus: more than 550 MW. Pure DC said Phase 1 involves more than €1.5 billion in planned investment and secured €1.3 billion in committed senior debt, arranged by SMBC, ABN AMRO, Citi, Société Générale, and Natixis CIB. The company said a potential campus-scale investment could exceed €7.5 billion. The company described Phase 1 as fully leased, with planning and power secured. The larger campus and investment remain subject to permissions and contracting; they are not delivered capacity.
Bosquel, France — SoftBank Group and Sesterce Development plan, May 31, 2026 Planned project: 1 GW; SoftBank also cited a broader 5 GW commitment announced at the 2026 Choose France summit. The cited figures describe plans and a broader commitment, not disclosed project financing. Plan only; the announcement does not establish completed capacity.
Île-de-France, France — Ardian and Verne Proposed digital-infrastructure hub, June 1, 2026 Target capacity: 500 MW Investment of up to €5 billion was announced for the proposed hub. The partners described a proposed hub for high-performance computing, AI model training, and industrial applications. The announcement does not establish construction or operating capacity.
Oxagon, Saudi Arabia — HUMAIN and DataVolt Groundbreaking for first phase announced by NEOM on August 31, 2026 First phase: 360 MW, including 100 MW to be jointly developed by HUMAIN and DataVolt. Wider planned campus: 1.5 GW. The announcement does not state a financing amount. The groundbreaking marked the start of construction for the 360 MW phase. The wider campus remains a plan, not built capacity.
Chile — Scala Data Centers Project-finance transaction announcement, July 2025 Three hyperscale data centers and a power substation Scala reported USD 254 million in long-term funding for the Chile project. Its headline figure of USD 328 million referred to the wider international deal. The release also described more than USD 70 million in sale-leaseback operations for Brazil sites and a BRL 180 million BNDES loan for infrastructure components. The cited funding supports the Chile facilities and substation; the additional Brazil and infrastructure figures have different scopes and should not be added to the Chile project amount.
Northern Virginia, United States — EdgeCore Completed financial transactions reported April 21, 2026, to fund construction of AS01 and AS02 Two single-tenant hyperscale facilities EdgeCore reported $1.5 billion in construction-financing transactions. It said AS01 financing was structured as a Green Loan aligned with the Green Loan Principles and its 2025 Green Finance Framework. The announcement describes financing for construction, not operating capacity. The stated green alignment is the company’s characterization, not independent confirmation of environmental outcomes.
Saline Township, Michigan, United States — Related Digital and Blackstone Financing announcement, April 24, 2026; first-building construction underway, according to Related Digital More than 1 GW across three single-story buildings, purpose-built for Oracle The companies announced a $16 billion campus value. That figure is not a disclosed debt principal amount. Related Digital said construction on the first buildings was underway. Capacity and value are company-announced figures.
United States hyperscale investment pool — Digital Realty Final close of inaugural U.S. hyperscale data center fund, announced March 30, 2026 Portfolio strategy rather than a single-site capacity announcement Digital Realty reported $3.25 billion in total equity commitments from institutional investors. A fund commitment pools capital for a strategy; the announcement does not identify this sum as construction spend at one site.

How do the financing terms differ?

The announcements use several financing terms, each describing a different kind of capital or transaction. They should not be compared as if they were equivalent project costs.

Equity fund commitments

Investors commit equity to a fund that can support a portfolio or investment strategy. The fund’s total commitment is not a loan to one project, nor does it say how much has been spent on construction at any single site. Digital Realty’s U.S. hyperscale fund is the example in this roundup.

Senior debt

Senior debt is borrowed capital whose priority relative to other claims is set by the loan documents. Pure DC’s Finnish announcement identifies the loan as committed senior debt and names its mandated lead arrangers. The announcement does not provide enough terms to compare pricing, covenants, collateral, or risk with other deals.

Construction financing

Construction financing supports building work. EdgeCore reported transactions funding two Virginia facilities; Related Digital and Blackstone announced financing for the Michigan campus. In the latter case, the announced campus value should not be mistaken for a disclosed debt principal.

Project finance and other transaction structures

Scala described the Chile funding arrangement as project finance for the data centers and power substation. Its release also reported sale-leaseback operations and a separate BNDES loan, which are distinct from the Chile project amount and from one another.

Green-loan alignment

A green-loan label or framework describes a financing structure’s stated alignment with principles or a framework. EdgeCore said the AS01 loan aligned with the Green Loan Principles and its 2025 Green Finance Framework. That statement alone does not establish measured environmental performance or prove that every intended outcome has been achieved.

How should readers interpret project milestones?

Capacity and capital figures become meaningful only when paired with a project’s stage. A plan, a financing close, a groundbreaking, and an operating facility are different milestones; a large ultimate campus target should not be read as a near-term delivery forecast.

  • Plan or target: a proposed development or intended campus scale. It is not evidence that construction has begun or that the capacity is operating.
  • Commitment or financing: capital has been committed or a financing transaction announced, but this does not by itself establish project completion. A project’s stated value also does not reveal the amount borrowed unless debt principal is specified.
  • Groundbreaking or construction underway: work has reached a construction milestone, but the facility may still be far from operational.
  • Leasing, power, and permissions: these can signal readiness or commercial demand for a particular phase, but they do not convert a conditional later-phase target into delivered capacity.

The announcements above come from developers, investors, or project partners. They establish what those organizations said and the milestones they reported; they do not independently verify delivery, project economics, or financing terms beyond what was disclosed. The announcements also do not provide a uniform basis for ranking projects by cost, risk, or delivery likelihood.
