GL.iNet’s CES 2026 announcement covered a portfolio—not one device—of Wi-Fi 7 travel routers, a wired security gateway, and remote KVM hardware. The Mudi 7 adds 5G, eSIM, dual-SIM standby, and a battery; the Beryl 7 and Slate models provide Wi-Fi 7 routing; Comet devices provide BIOS-level remote computer access.

GL.iNet presented the products in Las Vegas from January 6–9, 2026, at booth 8347 in the LVCC North Hall. By August 18, 2026, several models had moved beyond the “coming soon” stage, although availability varied by product, warehouse, regional version, and stock status.

The portfolio matters because it spans three different jobs: creating a private network while traveling, maintaining connectivity when a primary WAN fails, and recovering a computer or server remotely when ordinary remote-desktop software cannot help.

All speed figures below are manufacturer claims or theoretical maximums unless explicitly stated otherwise. They are not independent test results, and real performance will depend on the client device, carrier, VPN endpoint, signal, interference, thermal conditions, and underlying internet connection.

What did GL.iNet actually announce at CES 2026?

GL.iNet announced a broad connectivity and remote-management portfolio at CES 2026. The principal products were the Mudi 7, Beryl 7, Comet Pro, and Comet 5G, with the Brume 3 adding a wired security-gateway category. The company’s official CES 2026 page records the January 6–9 Las Vegas event and booth 8347 in the LVCC North Hall.

The original CES announcement described some products as launching in spring 2026. That launch guidance is historical; current availability should be judged from the dated store observations rather than from the January announcement.

How does the Mudi 7 differ from GL.iNet’s other travel routers?

The Mudi 7 is the portfolio’s most complete mobile-connectivity product because it combines a cellular modem, multiple SIM options, a battery, Wi-Fi 7, wired networking, and automatic failover in one unit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mudi 7 specifications

  • Cellular: 5G NR with an advertised maximum of 4.67Gbps, plus two TS-9 ports for external cellular antennas.
  • Wireless: tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with advertised maximum rates of 688Mbps on 2.4GHz, 2,882Mbps on 5GHz, and 5,765Mbps on 6GHz.
  • SIM options: built-in eSIM, two nano-SIM slots, and dual-SIM dual-standby.
  • Wired and USB: one 2.5GbE WAN/LAN port and two USB-C ports, including a USB 3.1 port rated up to 10Gbps for tethering, OTG, and data.
  • Controls: a 2.8-inch color touchscreen.
  • Power: a 5,380mAh battery rated for up to 13.5 hours under a lightweight continuous workload, plus 24W USB-PD fast charging.
  • Failover: automatic switching among Ethernet, Wi-Fi repeater, USB tethering, and cellular links.
  • VPN claims: up to 700Mbps with OpenVPN-DCO and up to 600Mbps with WireGuard.
  • Physical size: 300g and 157 × 75 × 22.8mm.
  • Software baseline: the datasheet lists OpenWrt 22.03 with Linux kernel 5.15.

The Mudi 7 datasheet is important for buyers who expect current OpenWrt package behavior: the listed OpenWrt 22.03 and Linux 5.15 baseline should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a current upstream OpenWrt release.

Is the Mudi 7 universally compatible with cellular networks?

The Mudi 7 is not universally compatible with every carrier or country. GL.iNet lists separate NA and EU versions with different 5G and LTE bands, so buyers must select the correct hardware variant and verify carrier support before purchase.

Hardware compatibility is only one part of the decision. A SIM or eSIM also requires suitable provisioning, an APN that works with the router, carrier approval where applicable, and a plan whose roaming and tethering terms permit the intended use. Signal quality, spectrum, carrier aggregation, antenna placement, and local congestion will determine actual speed. The Mudi 7 product page provides the regional band information that should be checked before ordering.

The Mudi 7 also needs special handling in vehicles. The datasheet states that the battery must be removed when the device is used in an RV or in-vehicle environment. That instruction matters for field and mobile installations and should not be skipped simply because the router can operate from USB-PD power.

What is the difference between Beryl 7, Slate 7, and Slate 7 Pro?

Beryl 7, Slate 7, and Slate 7 Pro all address portable Wi-Fi 7 routing without making an integrated cellular modem the central feature. Their differences are complexity, radio configuration, physical controls, and security or VPN features.

Model Best fit Radio and wired design Distinctive features Important omission or constraint
Beryl 7 Hotel Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB tethering, and portable VPN routing Dual-band Wi-Fi 7; two bidirectional 2.5GbE ports; USB-C power; USB 3.0 Type-A Advertised VPN ceilings of 1,100Mbps WireGuard and 1,000Mbps OpenVPN-DCO; multi-WAN, load balancing, and failover No integrated 4G/5G modem, battery, eSIM, dual-SIM system, or touchscreen
Slate 7 Travelers wanting a conventional Wi-Fi 7 router with wired 2.5GbE Dual-band Wi-Fi 7; dual 2.5GbE Portable form factor; listed at $169.99 in the observed U.S. configuration Does not provide Mudi 7 cellular, battery, eSIM, or dual-SIM capabilities
Slate 7 Pro Users wanting premium tri-band Wi-Fi 7 routing Tri-band Wi-Fi 7; dual 2.5GbE MLO, 2.8-inch touchscreen, DPI, and up to 1,100Mbps WireGuard Observed U.S. store configuration was sold out at $239.99

The Beryl 7 is best understood as a portable private gateway, not as a standalone mobile broadband hotspot. The Beryl 7 datasheet lists Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM, and preamble puncturing, along with the dual 2.5GbE design.

  • 【PROTECT YOUR NETWORK SECURITY】Our pocket wifi, unlike other vulnerable portable wifi hotspot devices for travel purposes supports WPA3 protocol–Preventive measures against password brute-force attacks; DNS over HTTPS & DNS over TLS–Protecting domain name system traffic and preventing data eavesdropping from malicious parties; IPv6–Built-in authentication for privacy protection, eliminating the need for network address translation.

Slate 7 Pro was described by GL.iNet with the positioning of a “world’s first true tri-band Wi-Fi 7 travel router.” That is a company claim, not an independently established industry fact, and its observed sold-out status also makes immediate purchase less straightforward.

What does Wi-Fi 7 change in a travel router?

Wi-Fi 7 can improve local wireless capacity and latency, but Wi-Fi 7 does not make a hotel’s internet uplink or a cellular carrier’s connection faster than the available backhaul.

The relevant technologies include 320MHz channels, where regulations and client support permit them; 4K-QAM, which can increase modulation efficiency under favorable signal conditions; Multi-Link Operation, which can use multiple links or bands depending on the implementation; and preamble puncturing, which can preserve usable capacity around interference. The Mudi 7 datasheet lists 320MHz channels and 4K-QAM, while the Beryl 7 datasheet lists MLO, 4K-QAM, and preamble puncturing.

The advertised 5,765Mbps 6GHz figure for Mudi 7 is a maximum PHY or link rate, not measured internet throughput. A connected client must also support the relevant Wi-Fi 7 features. Older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 devices can connect, but they will not receive the full Wi-Fi 7 benefit.

6GHz also has shorter range and greater wall attenuation than 2.4GHz in many environments. Country-specific 6GHz rules, channel availability, channel width, interference, VPN encryption, cellular backhaul, and heat can all matter more than the headline radio rate.

How do the Mudi 7, Beryl 7, and Slate models compare for travel?

Choose among the travel routers by starting with the source of internet access rather than by choosing the highest Wi-Fi number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Travel requirement Most relevant model Why When to choose something else
Built-in cellular connectivity Mudi 7 5G NR, eSIM, two nano-SIM slots, battery, and cellular failover Choose Beryl 7 or Slate 7 when hotel Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB tethering is sufficient and cellular is unnecessary
Private routing from hotel Ethernet or tethering Beryl 7 Compact dual-band Wi-Fi 7 design, dual 2.5GbE, USB tethering, and high advertised VPN throughput Choose Mudi 7 when a battery or cellular modem is essential
Wi-Fi 7 without cellular Slate 7 Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 and dual 2.5GbE in a portable design Choose Slate 7 Pro when tri-band operation, MLO, DPI, and touchscreen controls justify the extra cost and stock delay
Premium portable routing Slate 7 Pro Tri-band Wi-Fi 7, MLO, touchscreen, DPI, and higher-end VPN positioning Choose Slate 7 for immediate availability or lower cost, subject to current stock

GL.iNet’s VPN figures should not be compared as if they were directly interchangeable benchmark results. Mudi 7’s advertised 600Mbps WireGuard ceiling reflects a battery-powered cellular travel-router design, while Beryl 7’s advertised 1,100Mbps WireGuard figure comes from a different hardware and power envelope. Actual throughput depends on encryption settings, CPU load, packet size, VPN distance, and WAN speed.

What does a remote KVM do?

A hardware KVM provides keyboard, video, and mouse access to a computer, often at the firmware and boot level. Unlike a normal remote-desktop application, a KVM can remain useful before the operating system loads or when the operating system’s network stack, VPN client, or remote-access service has failed.

For example, a remote server may be powered on while its operating system has crashed. A software remote-desktop client cannot connect, but a KVM can show the BIOS or boot screen, accept keyboard input, start an operating-system installation, apply firmware settings, or help diagnose the failure. KVM access can also support remote rebooting and power cycling when the installation includes compatible power-control hardware.

What is the difference between Comet Pro and Comet 5G?

Comet Pro is the simpler Wi-Fi 6 remote KVM for a computer or server with dependable network access; Comet 5G adds cellular out-of-band connectivity for installations where the primary network may fail.

Criterion Comet Pro Comet 5G
Model GL-RM10 GL-RM10RC
Primary networking Wi-Fi 6 and wired networking Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, 5G RedCap, and 4G fallback
Failover Designed for network-connected access; cellular failover is not listed Automatic switching among Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular links
Video 4K at 30fps and 4K video passthrough 4K at 30fps with H.264 encoding
Storage 32GB eMMC 64GB eMMC for operating-system images and firmware files
Memory 1GB DDR3L Memory specification not supplied in the dossier
Local recovery Touchscreen; browser-based remote access Touchscreen, browser access, and Nearby Control through a self-contained wireless signal
Observed U.S. price and status $179.99; U.S. warehouse/U.S. plug; add-to-cart listing $299.99; U.S. warehouse/U.S. plug; add-to-cart listing

The Comet Pro product page identifies Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, a quad-core CPU, 32GB eMMC, 1GB DDR3L memory, a touchscreen, 4K video at 30fps, and 4K passthrough. Comet Pro is the more economical choice when the remote site’s normal Ethernet or Wi-Fi path is reliable.

The Comet 5G product page identifies 5G RedCap, 4G fallback, Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6, automatic link switching, Nearby Control, 64GB eMMC, browser access from Windows, macOS, or Linux, and 4K H.264 video at 30fps.

Why does 5G RedCap matter in Comet 5G?

5G RedCap matters in Comet 5G primarily as an independent management path and failover option, not as a promise of the fastest consumer 5G download speeds. Comet 5G can use cellular connectivity when a remote site’s Ethernet or local Wi-Fi is misconfigured, unavailable, or disconnected.

That distinction is important for field engineers, homelab owners, small businesses, and administrators managing unattended equipment. The valuable outcome is the ability to reach the machine, inspect its boot state, recover it, or restore its network configuration without immediately sending someone onsite.

Nearby Control adds a second recovery scenario: a person physically near the equipment can use the device’s self-contained wireless signal for local BIOS access even when the normal network path is unavailable. Cellular failover still requires a suitable plan, coverage, provisioning, and careful security configuration.

GL.iNet has described the Comet 5G as a “world’s first” remote KVM over 5G RedCap. That wording should be attributed to GL.iNet rather than presented as an independently verified industry award or market-wide finding.

What is Brume 3, and why is it part of this CES story?

Brume 3 is a wired security gateway, not a travel router or a KVM. Brume 3 has three 2.5GbE ports, supports dual-WAN operation by switching one LAN port to WAN, and includes DPI-based traffic analysis and protection.

Which GL.iNet CES 2026 products were available in August 2026?

Availability below is a dated snapshot from August 18, 2026, focused on the GL.iNet U.S. store. Store inventory, regional variants, warehouse selection, tax, shipping, and delivery estimates can change after publication.

Product Observed price Observed availability Regional or buying qualification
Mudi 7 $419.99 Add-to-cart listing U.S. warehouse; NA version
Slate 7 $169.99 Add-to-cart listing U.S. warehouse; U.S. plug
Slate 7 Pro $239.99 Sold out Observed CN warehouse listing with NA/EU/AU variants
Comet Pro $179.99 Add-to-cart listing U.S. warehouse; U.S. plug
Comet 5G $299.99 Add-to-cart listing U.S. warehouse; U.S. plug
Comet Q $109.99 sale price shown against $139.99 Backorder or sold-out signal Estimated shipping in late August 2026
Comet X $279.99 Sold out Quad-port remote KVM with PoE

The status snapshot draws on the individual Mudi 7, Slate 7, Slate 7 Pro, Comet Pro, Comet 5G, Comet Q, and Comet X product pages. The original January launch-era coverage reported lower historical prices—$369.90 for Mudi 7 and $269.99 for Comet 5G—but those figures should not replace the later store observations.

Which model should you choose?

Choose Mudi 7 when cellular access is essential

Mudi 7 is the strongest match for international work, mobile offices, field work, or travel where Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB tethering, and cellular links may all be needed. Mudi 7 is harder to justify when the buyer has no suitable 5G plan, does not need a battery, or only wants a basic private gateway for hotel Wi-Fi.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Beryl 7 when you already have an internet source

Beryl 7 suits travelers who can obtain internet through hotel Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB tethering and want portable routing, VPN support, two 2.5GbE ports, and multi-WAN features. Beryl 7 is the wrong category when integrated cellular service, eSIM, dual-SIM failover, or battery operation is required.

Choose Slate 7 or Slate 7 Pro for Wi-Fi 7 without cellular

Slate 7 is the simpler and less expensive Wi-Fi 7 travel-router choice in the dated U.S. listing. Slate 7 Pro is the more capable option on paper because it adds tri-band operation, MLO, DPI, a touchscreen, and higher-end VPN positioning, but the observed configuration was sold out.

Choose Comet Pro for affordable remote KVM

Comet Pro is appropriate when one workstation, server, or homelab machine needs BIOS-level and operating-system access and the remote site has dependable Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Software remote desktop remains simpler when the operating system is healthy, but software remote desktop cannot replace hardware KVM for pre-boot recovery.

Choose Comet 5G for unattended or business-critical systems

Comet 5G earns its premium when cellular out-of-band access, multi-network failover, Nearby Control, and additional storage can prevent an expensive site visit. Comet 5G is excessive for ordinary remote-desktop access or for a system that has no need for firmware-level recovery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What limitations should buyers understand before ordering?

Cellular compatibility is regional

NA and EU Mudi 7 variants support different cellular bands. Buyers should verify the exact bands, carrier approval, APN behavior, eSIM activation process, roaming rules, and tethering terms before purchase. A SIM fitting physically does not prove that the carrier service will work reliably.

To deal with this situation, please reconnect your router to the wifi.)

Wi-Fi 7 does not guarantee faster internet

Wi-Fi 7 improves the router-to-client wireless link under suitable conditions, but the hotel uplink, cellular backhaul, VPN endpoint, client radio, country-specific 6GHz rules, channel width, range, and interference may limit the result. A headline PHY rate should not be reported as usable application throughput.

VPN ceilings are not independent benchmarks

The advertised VPN figures come from GL.iNet’s product materials. Real throughput depends on protocol, encryption configuration, CPU load, packet size, VPN-server distance, WAN speed, and sustained thermal behavior. Mudi 7’s 600Mbps WireGuard claim should not be compared directly with Beryl 7’s 1,100Mbps claim without accounting for their different hardware, radios, modems, and power constraints.

Remote KVM expands the security impact

A remote KVM can expose the entire managed computer, including firmware setup, operating-system installation, recovery images, and stored credentials or data visible on the screen. Use strong unique credentials, enable MFA where supported, isolate management traffic on a dedicated VLAN or network, restrict inbound exposure, update firmware, protect stored OS images and ISO files, and test remote power cycling before an outage occurs.

GL.iNet’s descriptions of browser access, failover, and BIOS-level control establish product capabilities, not proof of enterprise-grade security. Future reviews should examine authentication, update practices, exposed services, image handling, and recovery behavior independently.

What remains untested?

The supplied CES coverage and manufacturer materials do not provide independent testing of the headline performance figures. A useful review should measure real cellular throughput across carriers and bands, Wi-Fi 7 throughput at several ranges, sustained VPN performance, battery life with cellular and Wi-Fi active, thermal throttling, KVM latency, recovery reliability, failover transition time, and firmware-update and security practices.

Those tests would determine whether the products’ practical value matches their specifications. The CES announcement establishes what GL.iNet built and claimed; it does not establish how each product performs in a crowded hotel, a weak cellular area, a long-running VPN session, or an unattended server room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GL.iNet’s CES 2026 announcement about one product or several products?

GL.iNet’s CES 2026 announcement covered several products: Wi-Fi 7 travel routers including Mudi 7, Beryl 7, and Slate models; the Brume 3 wired security gateway; and Comet remote KVM devices including Comet Pro and Comet 5G.

Does the Mudi 7 include cellular service?

The Mudi 7 includes a 5G NR modem, a built-in eSIM, and two nano-SIM slots, but the hardware does not include a cellular plan. Buyers must provide suitable service and confirm that the NA or EU version supports the intended carrier bands and policies.

Is Comet 5G the same as a normal remote-desktop application?

Comet 5G is hardware KVM equipment rather than ordinary remote-desktop software. Comet 5G can provide keyboard, video, and mouse access at BIOS or boot level and adds 5G RedCap, 4G fallback, and network failover when the operating system or primary network path is unavailable.

Are GL.iNet’s Wi-Fi 7 and VPN speed figures independent test results?

No. The Wi-Fi 7 link rates, 4.67Gbps 5G figure, and VPN ceilings are manufacturer maximum or theoretical claims in the supplied materials, not independent measurements. Actual performance depends on the client, carrier, signal, WAN, VPN endpoint, interference, and thermal conditions.

The Bottom Line

GL.iNet’s CES 2026 lineup is best understood as a product portfolio for portable connectivity and remote infrastructure. Choose Mudi 7 for cellular travel and multi-link failover, Beryl 7 or Slate 7 for Wi-Fi 7 routing without an integrated modem, Slate 7 Pro for premium features when stock permits, Comet Pro for standard network-based hardware KVM, and Comet 5G when cellular out-of-band recovery justifies the added cost. Verify regional compatibility and current inventory before ordering, and treat every advertised speed as a vendor maximum until independent testing says otherwise.
