The GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX (model GV-N5090IXEB-32GD) is a liquid-cooled external graphics enclosure built around NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. GIGABYTE lists 32GB of VRAM and more than 3,000 AI TOPS, but those are manufacturer specifications—not independent performance results. The key buying check is laptop compatibility: a USB4 port alone does not guarantee that the laptop supports an external GPU.

What is the AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX?

It is an external GPU, or eGPU: a separate enclosure that connects to a laptop and houses a desktop-class graphics card. GIGABYTE announced the RTX 5090 model on August 20, 2025, describing it as a liquid-cooled external graphics solution powered by the GeForce RTX 5090. The company said it was available for purchase at launch; that dated announcement does not establish current stock or pricing.

GIGABYTE positions the box for laptop gaming, creative applications, and AI workloads. The practical appeal is adding substantial graphics hardware without replacing the laptop. Whether it suits a particular user depends first on eGPU compatibility, then on workload, cost, and the performance the laptop can actually use over the connection.

What do the headline specifications mean?

GIGABYTE specifies 32GB of VRAM and more than 3,000 AI TOPS. Its June 11, 2026 lineup announcement identifies the AI TOPS figure as FP4 computing power. AI TOPS is a vendor-stated measure of AI compute capability; it is not a guarantee of a particular application’s speed, nor a substitute for workload-specific benchmark results. The reviewed sources do not provide independent benchmark results for this enclosure.

GIGABYTE also says its Thunderbolt 5 connection provides up to 80Gbps bidirectional bandwidth. That is the stated link bandwidth, not a promise that games or applications will run at a given frame rate: actual results depend on the laptop, connection, workload, and software.

Will it work with your laptop?

Do not assume that any laptop with USB-C or USB4 can use this eGPU. GIGABYTE lists Thunderbolt 5 and USB4 connectivity, but explicitly warns: “USB4 does not guarantee eGPU support and may vary by device. Please confirm with your manufacturer whether your USB4 port supports external GPUs.” Check the exact laptop model and port specification with its manufacturer before buying.

GIGABYTE recommends Windows 11 version 25H2 or later for smooth installation and optimal configuration. Confirm operating-system and driver requirements for your laptop and intended applications as well; a connector that fits is not proof that the complete setup is supported.

What else is built into the enclosure?

  • Cooling: GIGABYTE’s WATERFORCE all-in-one liquid cooler uses a 240mm aluminum radiator and two 120mm fans.
  • Ports: The product page lists one Thunderbolt 5 connection, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 peripheral ports, and an Ethernet port.
  • Power delivery: GIGABYTE specifies up to 100W power delivery to a connected laptop. Treat this as the stated maximum, not confirmation that it will power every laptop under every workload.

What does GPU Selector do?

GIGABYTE describes GPU Selector as software for assigning applications or workloads across multiple GPUs, either automatically or manually. The feature is intended to help direct work to the preferred GPU, but the reviewed product descriptions do not quantify performance gains with independent tests. Its usefulness will depend on application support and how a user configures the system.

How does the RTX 5090 model compare with the RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX?

GIGABYTE’s June 2026 announcement describes the RTX 5090 AI BOX as the flagship of a lineup that also includes a separate RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX. The 5060 Ti is not another configuration of the 5090 model.

Specification AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX
GPU tier GeForce RTX 5090 GeForce RTX 5060 Ti
VRAM 32GB, according to GIGABYTE 16GB, according to GIGABYTE
Cooling WATERFORCE liquid cooling WINDFORCE air cooling

These published differences do not establish which box is the better value. The reviewed sources do not provide comparable independent performance tests or current prices for the two models.

Is an external RTX 5090 the right upgrade?

Consider the AI BOX if your laptop is confirmed to support eGPUs and you need graphics capability for work or play that benefits from a separate GPU. Compare it with keeping your current laptop GPU or buying a laptop with a stronger internal GPU. The available product information does not provide comparable tested performance, pricing, or total-system costs for those alternatives, so weigh the enclosure, laptop compatibility, intended applications, and overall system expense rather than assuming one route is faster or cheaper.

GIGABYTE first showed the AI BOX at COMPUTEX 2025. Its August 2025 launch announcement said it was available then, while PC Gamer reported on September 3, 2025, that GIGABYTE had not announced an MSRP at that time. Those launch-era statements do not confirm present-day price, regional availability, or stock; check current local retailer and manufacturer listings before making a purchase decision.
