Administrators should check the installed build, follow GFI’s current upgrade path, restrict management access, and investigate suspicious activity. The historical patch recommendations below are not a guarantee that those are still the latest versions to install.
Which KerioControl versions are affected?
The Broadcom/Symantec bulletin and the UAE Cyber Security Council advisory identify KerioControl versions 9.2.5 through 9.4.5 as affected by CVE-2024-52875. The Broadcom/Symantec bulletin says exploitation was reported in the wild.
Compare the firewall’s installed version and patch level with GFI’s current release information and supported upgrade path. The advisories establish the affected version range, but their dated recommendations should not be treated as the current destination for every installation. GFI’s release feed lists later releases, and the correct upgrade sequence can depend on the starting release.
How the reported exploit works
The reported flaw involves unsanitized input in a dest parameter used to construct a redirect’s HTTP Location header. The Guyana National CIRT describes how this can allow HTTP response splitting and reflected cross-site scripting (XSS).

In the attack chain described by the CIRT, a malicious URL clicked by a logged-in administrator can enable a one-click remote-code-execution (RCE) scenario. The administrator’s interaction is part of that reported chain; it should not be read as proof that every installation or deployment is exploitable in exactly the same way.

Use GFI’s published version-update pathway to determine the supported route from your installed build, then install the current applicable release. Do not assume that moving directly to either historically named patch is appropriate for your starting version.

What administrators should do
- Identify the installed build. Check the KerioControl version and patch level on each firewall and compare them with the affected range, 9.2.5 through 9.4.5.
- Plan and apply the vendor update. Consult GFI’s current release information and version-update pathway for the supported upgrade sequence from your build. Schedule the change under your normal firewall maintenance and recovery procedures.
- Reduce management exposure. Limit administration to trusted IP addresses and disable remote management if it is not needed. These measures reduce exposure; they do not replace installing the update.
- Review activity around the exposure period. Check logs and network activity for suspicious requests, administrator access, configuration changes, payload execution, or unusual outbound communications.
When to investigate for compromise
The Guyana National CIRT lists the following as possible indicators. They are reasons to investigate, not a complete forensic checklist or proof by themselves that CVE-2024-52875 was exploited:
- Suspicious requests containing crafted
destparameters. - Unexpected administrator session hijacking or configuration changes.
- Administrative logins from foreign or otherwise unfamiliar IP addresses.
- Suspicious payload execution.
- Anomalous command-and-control traffic.
If you find these signs, preserve relevant logs and configuration records, assess the scope of unauthorized access, and involve your incident-response process. Treat unexplained administrator activity or unauthorized configuration changes as especially important to resolve.

Keep this flaw separate from a later KerioControl issue
CVE-2024-52875 is the CRLF injection and response-splitting issue described above. It is distinct from CVE-2025-34069, a separately reported KerioControl authentication-bypass issue involving proxy forwarding to GFIAgent services. The GitHub Advisory Database published CVE-2025-34069 on July 2, 2025, and updated it on September 17, 2025. Its mechanics should not be attributed to CVE-2024-52875.

The Guyana National CIRT reported that the Shadowserver Foundation detected 12,229 exposed KerioControl firewalls being targeted on February 11, 2025. That is a dated historical figure, not a current exposure count.
