Claude does not gain image, PDF, or video rendering simply by connecting to “the Claude MCP server.” MCP is a standard for connecting an AI client to external tools. One documented example is RenderForm’s MCP server: Claude can use it to call RenderForm’s template-based rendering service, provided you configure the server and give it a template and data. Image and PDF rendering are listed in the server documentation; video is advertised on RenderForm’s product page but is not named in that detailed tool list, so check the tools exposed by your installed version before relying on video generation.

What “the Claude MCP server” means

There is no single universal Claude MCP server that automatically creates every kind of media. Claude is the AI client; an MCP server exposes tools that let the client interact with an external system. The Model Context Protocol documentation describes MCP as “an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems.” In this example, RenderForm’s MCP server connects a supported client such as Claude Desktop to RenderForm’s rendering API.

That distinction affects what you can create. Claude can help choose a template and supply values, but the documented RenderForm workflow is template-driven: you select or create a template, then send data to render it. It is not evidence that Claude will freely design any image, PDF, or video from scratch. RenderForm’s PDF API describes the same sequence: design a template, submit data, and receive a PDF or image.

Which outputs and tools are documented?

RenderForm’s MCP documentation, dated July 17, 2026, enumerates tools for rendering an image or PDF from a template, taking a webpage screenshot, converting a webpage to PDF, viewing render results, managing templates, checking organization usage, and listing fonts. It also includes delete operations for render results and templates. The product page additionally advertises image, PDF, and video rendering from templates, but the detailed tool list does not name a video-render tool. These are different levels of specificity, not a guarantee that every installed server exposes video rendering.

For the documented template-based image and PDF workflow, RenderForm names PDF, PNG, and JPG output formats. The practical use is repeatable output—such as a branded document or graphic populated with changing data—rather than an assumption of unrestricted generative design. Before asking Claude for video, inspect the connected client’s actual tool list and confirm that it includes the needed video action.

How to connect RenderForm to Claude Desktop

  1. Create or retrieve an API key. In your RenderForm account, open the API Keys area and create a dedicated key for this integration. RenderForm recommends a dedicated key. Treat it like a password; do not paste a real key into a public prompt, source repository, or article.
  2. Add the MCP server in the client’s MCP configuration. RenderForm’s documented launch pattern uses stdio and runs npx -y renderform-mcp --api-key=RENDERFORM_API_KEY. Replace RENDERFORM_API_KEY with your own key in the client’s configuration. Exact placement and UI labels can vary by client version; use the MCP-server configuration area for the client you have installed.
  3. Restart or reload the client connection. Confirm that the server starts and that RenderForm tools appear in the connected client. If they do not, check the client’s MCP connection status and its logs before trying a render.
  4. Choose or create a template. Make sure the template’s placeholders match the data you intend to provide. The rendered result depends on that template and its fields.
  5. Ask Claude to render it with explicit data. Name the template and provide the values to populate it. For example: “Render my quarterly-summary template with headline ‘Q3 results’ and return the file URL.” Review the returned result and its format before using it downstream.

The documented configuration sends the API key from the local MCP client configuration to RenderForm’s API. Anyone able to edit that configuration or invoke the server may be able to use the key’s permissions. Since the tool set also includes destructive deletion actions, inspect the available tools and consider the effect of exposing them to an AI client.

Generating an image or PDF from a template

First make sure the intended template exists and that its dynamic placeholders are known. Then request a specific output and supply values in a clear, structured way. A useful prompt names the template, the output type, and each field; for example, “Use the event-poster template, render a PNG, and set title to ‘Community Night’, date to ‘October 18’, and venue to ‘Room 4’.” For a PDF, ask for the PDF output and provide the corresponding document data.

Template-based rendering is useful when layout consistency matters. A team can keep visual choices in a template and change only its data for each render. If the result is wrong, distinguish a content problem from a layout problem: confirm the values Claude submitted, then inspect the template’s placeholders and design. The available source information establishes that the service can render template-based images and PDFs; it does not establish that Claude can invent or modify a template through every client setup.

Can Claude generate a PDF from a webpage?

RenderForm’s enumerated MCP tools include both webpage screenshot capture and webpage-to-PDF conversion. That is a separate workflow from rendering a PDF from a RenderForm template. Ask for the webpage conversion tool and identify the page URL; if you need a branded, data-driven document instead, use a PDF template and provide its fields. Check the returned file and page layout, especially for long pages or content that changes after load.

For a webpage capture, the page must be reachable by the rendering service and may need time to load its content. The available source details do not specify guarantees for authentication, dynamic content, page length, or conversion fidelity, so verify those against your own page and current RenderForm documentation rather than assuming every webpage will convert identically.

Does the RenderForm MCP server support video?

RenderForm’s MCP product page advertises rendering videos from templates, while the detailed MCP documentation’s listed tools include image and PDF rendering but do not name a video-render tool. Therefore, video support should be treated as dependent on the server version and client connection until verified. After installation, inspect the client’s exposed tool names and descriptions. If no video tool appears, do not assume that a video request to Claude will work just because the product page mentions video.

RenderForm’s product page lists 10 credits per second of video, compared with 1 credit per image or PDF render, and a free allowance of 50 credits. These figures are volatile: check your current account’s usage and plan details before estimating a project. The product page’s allowance is not a promise of a recurring monthly quantity.

Costs, permissions, and reliability considerations

  • Budget by output. The listed rates are 1 credit for an image or PDF render and 10 credits per second of video, with a 50-credit free allowance. Confirm current account terms and usage before production work.
  • Check the actual tool surface. Product-page claims and installed tool lists may differ in detail. Confirm video availability in the connected client, and ensure the expected image, PDF, webpage, or management tool appears.
  • Protect credentials. Keep the API key in local MCP configuration rather than in prompts or committed code. Use a dedicated key as RenderForm recommends, and restrict access to the machine and client configuration.
  • Review destructive actions. The documented tools include deleting a render result and deleting a template. Confirm targets before using deletion tools, especially in shared organizations.
  • Validate output before automating around it. Check that the render completed, that the chosen format is correct, and that variable data populated the intended fields. The available RenderForm documentation does not establish service-level uptime or completion-time guarantees.

Troubleshooting common setup and rendering problems

The RenderForm tools do not appear in Claude

Check that the MCP configuration uses the documented package name and stdio launch pattern, that the API key placeholder was replaced, and that the client was reloaded after the configuration change. Review the client’s MCP connection logs for launch or authentication errors. Also confirm that your client version supports MCP servers.

The server starts, but authentication fails

Verify the key in the account’s API Keys area and ensure it was copied without extra spaces or punctuation. Update the local configuration if you rotated or replaced the key, then reconnect. Do not share the key in a chat transcript to troubleshoot it.

A requested video action is unavailable

Inspect the connected tool list for an explicit video-render action. The product page advertises video, but the detailed enumerated MCP tools do not specify a video tool. If it is absent, the installed server/client combination does not expose that operation; consult current vendor documentation for the supported version and configuration.

The render has missing or incorrect content

Compare the values in the request with the template’s placeholder names and expected data. Ask Claude to render the same template with explicit field-value pairs, then inspect the template if the mismatch persists. For a PDF or image, verify that you requested the intended format.

A webpage screenshot or PDF is incomplete

Check whether the page is publicly reachable and whether it finishes loading its content in the rendering context. Retry after confirming the URL and page state. The published product details do not establish specific controls for authenticated pages, load waits, or page-length limits in this MCP workflow, so check current vendor documentation for those cases.

Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo for webpage captures

ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API, not a replacement for RenderForm’s template-based image, PDF, or video rendering. If your task is simply to capture a webpage as an image or PDF, its one-request API can do that without configuring a browser or MCP server. See the ScreenshotNeo website and the API documentation.

For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Equivalent Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Equivalent Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents, including Claude and Cursor, with screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
