Devanagari uses combining vowel signs and conjunct forms, so font coverage, line breaks and clipping all need a visual check.
1. Write the card in HTML and Unicode Devanagari
Keep the Hindi copy as Unicode text in the document rather than turning it into an image before layout. This lets the browser shape the script using the chosen font. Devanagari is an abugida; vowel signs may combine with consonants, and consonants can form conjuncts. W3C’s Devanagari layout material discusses these script behaviors and text segmentation, but it is a work in progress rather than a guarantee that every browser, font or export tool will render identically. Start with a small, representative sample of the content you will actually publish. Include conjuncts, vowel marks, punctuation, and any Latin numerals or URLs that will appear on the card. Choose a typeface that contains the glyphs you need, and check the rendered sample for missing characters, disconnected forms or unexpected fallback fonts. A font that looks suitable in a design preview is not enough; inspect the browser-rendered result.
2. Render the HTML and check the exported image
- Compose the layout. Put the text, typography, colors and other card elements into the HTML/CSS you plan to use.
- Render with a browser-based screenshot or HTML-to-image workflow. Confirm that the renderer has loaded the page and the intended font before capture. If your font is loaded remotely, wait for it to finish loading rather than capturing immediately.
- Inspect the actual raster export. Look for missing glyphs, broken shaping, clipped vowel marks, awkward line breaks and content that overflows its card area. Check at the final display size when possible; a defect can be hard to notice in a zoomed-in browser view.
- Adjust and render again. If text is crowded or a mark is clipped, revise the available space, font size, line height or wrapping, then inspect a fresh export.
- Confirm the target dimensions before publishing. This guide does not establish a current Instagram feed pixel size or aspect ratio. Verify the platform’s current guidance before choosing exact export dimensions.
3. Use an HTML-to-image service carefully
HTML/CSS to Image documents rendering an Instagram embed as an image. Its example targets the .instagram-media-rendered selector and uses a 1750 ms delay for that particular embed. Those settings are specific to the example; they are not a universal recipe for a custom HTML card. See the HTML/CSS to Image Instagram embed guide. For your own design, identify the card element to capture and test the result, especially font loading and Hindi shaping.

4. Troubleshoot Hindi rendering problems
- Boxes or missing characters: Check that the selected typeface includes the missing glyphs and that the renderer can load that font. Try the sample text in the rendered page before exporting the full card.
- Vowel marks appear clipped: Inspect the exported image at its final size. Increase the text area or line height, or adjust the card’s spacing, then capture again.
- Conjuncts look broken: Check the browser-rendered output and confirm the font has the relevant glyphs. Test with representative Hindi text rather than relying on a Latin-only preview.
- Unexpected line breaks: Review the text container width and wrapping in the rendered card. Change the layout or typography and verify the new raster output.
- Export captures an incomplete page: Ensure the page and fonts have finished loading before capture. A delay that works for an embedded post may not suit a custom card, so test your own page.
5. Keep Instagram references descriptive
You can describe the design as a card “for Instagram,” but do not imply that Meta or Instagram sponsors, endorses or partners with it. If you use Instagram marks or other brand assets, follow Meta’s Instagram brand-use guidance. The article’s use of the platform name is descriptive, not an endorsement.
