League of Legends is the pick for a familiar 5v5 MOBA, while SMITE 2 and Predecessor suit players who want third-person action and console options. None is a full stand-in for March of Giants: its announced mix of controlling a Giant, commanding soldiers, and reshaping the battlefield with structures is unusual. As of October 3, 2026, the game is not generally released; its Pioneer Playtest is scheduled for October 7–18, and Early Access is planned for summer 2027.
What makes March of Giants different?
March of Giants is an announced 4v4 MOBA from Ubisoft. Players control a Giant with unique abilities, command soldiers to scout, gather resources, capture objectives, attack Giants, or pressure defenses, and deploy Battleworks such as trenches and bunkers to reshape lanes and create choke points. Its setting draws on World War I imagery and fantasy. Ubisoft describes the game as a new experience within a genre that can be difficult to break into, and says its ideal audience includes fans of gunpowder fantasy and steampunk. Ubisoft’s game page has more on the announced design.
Those signature systems set a useful limit on the alternatives: the games below match the broad MOBA and team-combat appeal, but the official descriptions cited here do not establish another game with the same combination of Giant control, soldier command, and battlefield construction.
Which game should you play while you wait?
| Game | Best fit | What differs from March of Giants |
|---|---|---|
| League of Legends | A familiar, free-to-play 5v5 MOBA structure. | Its official description centers on teams battling to destroy the enemy Nexus; comparable army-command or map-building mechanics are not established in the cited description. |
| SMITE 2 | Third-person action, controller support, and cross-play or cross-progression across PC and console. | It is the fit for direct hero combat and flexible platform play, not the announced soldier-command systems. |
| Predecessor | A third-person MOBA available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, with cross-play. | It offers another console-accessible action-MOBA option; the cited description does not establish Battleworks or army command. |
League of Legends: choose the classic 5v5 format
If you mainly want the familiar rhythm of team lanes, coordinated fights, and an objective-driven match, start with League of Legends. Its official overview describes teams trying to destroy the opposing Nexus. That makes it a straightforward way to play a conventional MOBA while waiting, rather than a mechanical preview of March of Giants.

SMITE 2: choose third-person action and flexible play
SMITE 2 is described by its official site as a third-person action MOBA. The site also lists controller support, cross-play, and cross-progression across PC and console. Pick it if you prefer a closer, more direct action view or want the option to play across those platforms; those qualities do not imply that it shares the announced soldier and construction systems.
Predecessor: choose another third-person console option
Predecessor is another third-person MOBA. Its official site lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox availability and cross-play. It is a reasonable option if you want that presentation and console access, rather than a top-down match structure.
