The best alternative depends on which part of Resonant you want more of: combat, a warped world, mystery, or player-directed exploration.
Remedy announced a worldwide release date of September 24, 2026, for CONTROL Resonant, with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store listed. Its announcement said Mac would follow later in 2026. Remedy describes the game as an action-adventure RPG set in a warped Manhattan, starring Dylan Faden; its gameplay materials highlight close-range combat, expansive zones, side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries. Those differences matter: no single alternative reproduces every part of the new game.

Which game like CONTROL Resonant should you play?
| Choose this game | Best match for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Paranormal powers, third-person action, reactive environments, and the FBC | It is the earlier series entry, not Resonant’s close-range-focused action RPG direction. |
| Alan Wake 2 | Remedy-connected mystery, story puzzles, atmosphere, and psychological horror | It is a horror-focused choice, not a direct combat substitute. |
| Alan Wake Remastered | An earlier chapter in Alan Wake’s story | It is an action-thriller, not a Resonant-style supernatural action pick. |
| Dishonored 2 | Supernatural abilities and freedom to approach missions stealthily | Stealth is central; it is not fast third-person action. |
| Prey | Strange science fiction, exploration, and combat choices | It is an immersive-sim experience with a different perspective and feel. |
| Quantum Break | Another Remedy story-driven action game with time-bending science fiction | Its inclusion here does not establish it as part of the Control/Alan Wake shared universe. |
Control: the closest match for supernatural action
Control is the clearest pick if what you want from Resonant is paranormal action in a hostile, uncanny world. It puts you in the Federal Bureau of Control, a secretive agency whose headquarters, the Oldest House, is as unsettling as the phenomena it contains. PlayStation describes it as a supernatural third-person action-adventure built around supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts, and reactive environments (PlayStation’s official Control description).
That makes it the best fit for players who want to combine powers and weapons while exploring an environment that seems to resist ordinary rules. The key difference is combat emphasis: Resonant is presented as a move toward close-range action, whereas Control is known for paranatural gunplay and ranged abilities. Pick it for the setting and power fantasy, not because its combat is identical.
#1 Best Overall
- Uncover the mysteries - Can you handle the bureau’s dark secrets? Unfold an epic supernatural struggle, filled with unexpected characters and bizarre events, as you search for your missing brother, and discover the truth that has brought you here.
- Everything is your weapon - Unleash destruction through transforming weaponry and telekinetic powers. Discover new ways to annihilate your enemies as you harness powerful abilities to turn everything around you into a lethal weapon.
- Explore a hidden world - Delve deep into the ominous expanses of a secretive government agency. Explore the Bureau’s shifting environments only to discover that there is always more than meets the eye…
- Fight for control - Battle a relentless enemy through exciting missions and challenging boss fights to earn powerful upgrades that maximize abilities and customize your weaponry.
Alan Wake 2: for Remedy mystery and psychological horror
Choose Alan Wake 2 if the appeal is a connected Remedy setting, layered story puzzles, and an unnerving atmosphere rather than a close match in action. It leans much harder into psychological horror, so it suits players willing to trade some action momentum for dread and investigation.
Remedy’s materials connect Control’s AWE expansion with Alan Wake 2. The studio’s FAQ addresses whether playing Control or AWE is necessary to understand the sequel; do not treat either as a prerequisite based on that connection alone. See Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 materials and its official FAQ for the studio’s guidance.
Alan Wake Remastered: for an earlier story entry
If you want to start earlier in Alan Wake’s story, Alan Wake Remastered is the relevant option. Remedy describes it as an action-thriller remaster. It offers a different, earlier experience rather than a direct alternative for players primarily seeking supernatural third-person combat; Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 materials provide context on the series.

- Uncover the mysteries. Can you handle the bureau's dark secrets? Unfold an epic supernatural struggle, filled with unexpected characters and bizarre events, as you search for your missing brother, and discover the truth that has brought you here
- everything is your weapon. Unleash destruction through transforming weaponry and telekinetic powers. Discover New ways to annihilate your enemies as you harness powerful abilities to turn everything around you into a lethal weapon
- explore a hidden world. Delve deep into the Ominous expanses of a secretive government Agency. Explore the bureau's shifting environments only to discover that there is always more than meets the eye
- fight for control. Battle a relentless enemy through exciting missions and challenging boss fights to earn powerful upgrades that maximize abilities and customize your weaponry
- experience true next-generation gaming with increased visual fidelity through 4K graphics, ray-tracing and a 60FPS performance mode
Dishonored 2: for supernatural powers and stealth choice
Dishonored 2 fits if you want strange settings and supernatural abilities, but would rather decide how to move through mission spaces than charge into fights. Bethesda describes it as a supernatural-assassin game. Its official comparison with Prey draws a useful distinction: Dishonored places greater emphasis on stealth (Bethesda’s Dishonored and Prey comparison).

That emphasis is the trade-off. If your main reason for seeking games like Resonant is fast third-person action, Dishonored 2 is a less direct fit. It is a stronger choice when stealth, supernatural abilities, and player-directed approaches matter more.
Prey: for science-fiction exploration and combat choices
Prey is an adjacent pick for players drawn to an unfamiliar, unsettling world and the freedom to explore and handle threats in different ways. It is a science-fiction immersive sim, not a third-person Control clone, so approach it for its setting and exploratory play rather than matching combat or perspective.
Rank #3
- All graphics fully remastered in HD, bringing the game to the latest console generation
- Renewed 3D models, including characters and backgrounds, enriching the visual experience
- Improved battle system providing a vastly smoother gameplay experience
- Fully voiced dialogue in both English and Japanese
- A newly arranged soundtrack from the original composer, Takeharu Ishimoto
Bethesda’s comparison notes that stealth is possible in Prey but is not its central pillar, unlike Dishonored (Bethesda’s comparison). That makes it the more suitable of the two if you want exploration and combat options without making stealth the defining attraction.

Quantum Break is worth considering if you want another Remedy action game built around a science-fiction story and time-bending abilities. Remedy lists it in the studio’s catalog (Remedy’s official homepage).
It is a studio-style match, not a confirmed shared-universe continuation: the available official material here does not establish Quantum Break as part of the Control/Alan Wake universe. Choose it for Remedy’s narrative approach, not for a promised connection to the FBC or Alan Wake.
How to pick based on what you want from Resonant
- Want powers and third-person action? Start with Control.
- Want Remedy-connected mystery and more horror? Pick Alan Wake 2.
- Want to begin Alan Wake’s story earlier? Choose Alan Wake Remastered.
- Want supernatural abilities but prefer stealth and tactical choice? Try Dishonored 2.
- Want strange science fiction and exploratory systems? Try Prey.
- Want another Remedy story-action game without assuming shared-universe canon? Consider Quantum Break.
