The closest way to try Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse right now is its playable demo; it launched on October 1, 2026. KONAMI says demo progress can carry into the full game on the same platform and account if you keep the demo save and update the full game. For a different game, choose based on the part that interests you most: castle-style exploration, classic stage-based action, gothic atmosphere, or fast combat and movement.
KONAMI has announced the full game for October 15, 2026. Its official pages describe a 2D action game set in Paris in 1499, starring Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont. The publisher highlights the Vampire Killer whip as both a weapon and movement tool, alongside weapons, relics, secrets, puzzles, traps, and bosses. Those features point to several different kinds of games to try while you wait—not one perfect substitute.
Try the Belmont’s Curse demo first
If you want to know how this particular game feels, the demo is the most direct option. KONAMI announced its release for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on October 1, 2026. According to KONAMI, progress can transfer to the full game on the same platform and account, provided you keep the demo save and update the full game. Confirm the current download and save-transfer terms on your platform’s store.
The announced full release date is October 15, 2026. KONAMI’s June announcement names PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam in its pre-order information; the official game site also lists Nintendo Switch for October 15. Availability and store details can change, so check the relevant storefront for the latest platform listing.

Choose a game by the part of Belmont’s Curse you want
KONAMI presents Belmont’s Curse as an exploration-based 2D action game, but its described features appeal to different tastes. The whip’s traversal role suggests an interest in movement as well as combat; secrets, puzzles, and traps point toward exploration; and its weapons and relics suggest choices in how to fight. Use the categories below to decide what to play, rather than expecting another game to reproduce the whole package.
For exploration and discovery
Look for a 2D action-adventure built around interconnected areas, revisiting places, and finding routes or abilities that open up more of the map. This is the closest broad match for the exploration side of KONAMI’s description. It may still differ substantially in combat, tone, and how equipment or abilities work; check the individual game’s store listing before buying if a particular feature matters to you.

- 17 Levels - Each one with its own atmosphere, foes and secrets to discover
- 5 Bosses - Made by the most sadistic of the devs, raised on the salt of the testers
- 150 or so weapons and skills - Spears, swords, bows, magic spells, shields, pets, frying pans etc; You name it, we got it
- Unlock the four original Dead Cells DLCs, giving you late-game content plus an entire new pathway to follow, with an alternative ending and tons of new enemies, weapons & outfits
- Battle through the corridors of Dracula’s Castle; Wield weapons against monsters to reach the throne room of the Dark Lord
Belmont’s Curse itself is described as including secrets, puzzles, and dangerous traps, but its official materials do not establish a specific map structure or exactly how progression unlocks areas. Treat those details as unknown rather than assuming every exploration-focused game will mirror them.
For classic side-scrolling stages
If you mainly want the feel of moving through a sequence of 2D action levels, try a stage-based platformer. Its discrete stages can deliver a focused run of jumps and fights, but that structure is different from the exploration-based approach KONAMI describes for Belmont’s Curse. Choose this route for side-scrolling action, not for a guarantee of freeform castle exploration or ability-driven backtracking.

For a gothic mood
Choose a game whose official description or storefront clearly establishes a gothic or dark-fantasy setting, then decide whether its action and progression also suit you. A similar atmosphere does not mean similar mechanics: a gothic game could be stage-based, exploration-led, or built around a different combat system. Check its listing for the specific play style you want.
For fast combat and movement: Dead Cells
Dead Cells is a defensible adjacent pick if quick action and movement matter more to you than a traditional Castlevania map. KONAMI identifies Evil Empire as responsible for Dead Cells development and its updates and DLC, and identifies Motion Twin as the studio behind the game. KONAMI also lists Motion Twin as an adviser on Belmont’s Curse. That connection makes the comparison relevant, but it does not make Belmont’s Curse a roguelite.

Dead Cells uses roguelite, run-based progression, which is a meaningful distinction from what KONAMI has described for Belmont’s Curse. If you want to explore the series connection on PC, the Steam listing currently includes a bundle with Dead Cells and Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania. Bundle contents and regional storefront details may change, so confirm them on Steam.
Quick comparison: what to prioritize
| If you want… | Choose this kind of game | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Exploration and returning to earlier areas | Interconnected 2D action-adventure | Its combat, atmosphere, and progression may differ from KONAMI’s description of Belmont’s Curse. |
| Focused side-scrolling action | Stage-based platformer | Discrete stages are not the same structure as exploration-led play. |
| Dark or gothic fantasy | A game whose official listing confirms that tone | Similar atmosphere does not establish similar movement or progression. |
| Fast action and a documented developer connection | Dead Cells | It has roguelite, run-based progression; do not assume it plays like Belmont’s Curse. |
What KONAMI has confirmed about Belmont’s Curse
KONAMI describes the game as a 2D action-exploration adventure set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Rose Belmont fights monsters in the city and Dracula’s castle. The official site lists seven weapon categories and describes relics affecting offense and defense, as well as bosses whose skills become Arcana. These are publisher-described features, not an independent assessment of how they work in play.

KONAMI says the game was developed jointly by KONAMI and Evil Empire, with Motion Twin in an advisory capacity. The Steam bundle linking Belmont’s Curse with Dead Cells and its Return to Castlevania DLC gives PC players another official storefront connection between the games, although bundle availability is regional and can change.
