If you want demanding sword fights built around reading an opponent and deflecting attacks, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the closest fit among these options. For a newer sword-focused choice, Onimusha: Way of the Sword explicitly emphasizes parrying and deflecting, but it is scheduled for September 25, 2026. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition offers wuxia-inspired action and more weapon variety, while Sifu is a strong melee alternative if hand-to-hand kung fu is acceptable. Burning Sword: Death Sun itself is still listed as in development, with no release date stated by its developer.

What kind of game is Burning Sword: Death Sun?

Nomadic Games describes Burning Sword: Death Sun as a Windows action game combining challenging souls-like play with hack-and-slash action. Its developer highlights sword techniques, palm strikes, inner strength, duels against martial masters, and a wuxia-film aesthetic. The game’s itch.io page lists it as “In development,” and its press kit names Steam (PC) without specifying a release date.

That mix makes the most useful alternatives those that offer demanding melee combat, especially when swordplay or deflection is a priority. The games below are not identical: some emphasize blade deflections, others broaden the weapon system, and one swaps swords for kung fu.

Which games are the best alternatives?

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — closest fit for deflection-focused sword fights

Sekiro is the clearest starting point if you want sword combat centered on deflection, posture, and boss encounters. That characterization is supported here by a secondary reference rather than an official game page, so treat “closest” as a combat-style recommendation—not a claim that its difficulty exactly matches Burning Sword: Death Sun.

Choose it when your priority is learning enemy timing and responding with precise defensive swordplay. It is the most direct fit in this group for that particular combat emphasis.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword — announced sword combat with parrying and deflecting

PlayStation describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as blade-on-blade combat built around parrying and deflecting, making it a promising match for players drawn to sword duels. PlayStation’s announcement lists September 25, 2026 as its release date. The same announcement says a demo is available and describes roughly 30 minutes of early-story content; demo access may differ by platform or region, so check the current listing where you play.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition — wuxia action and more weapon options

Sifu — demanding melee if swords are optional

Sifu is not a sword-combat game: Sloclap describes it as a third-person action game built around intense hand-to-hand combat and Pak-Mei kung fu. Its official materials emphasize adapting and learning from mistakes, making it relevant if the real draw is a demanding melee challenge rather than blade work.

The free Arenas expansion adds five game modes, nine dynamic locations, and 45 challenges, according to Sloclap. Those modes expand the hand-to-hand option; they do not turn Sifu into a sword-focused alternative.
