None is a one-to-one replacement for Bond’s mix of spycraft, gadgets, combat, vehicles, and cinematic origin story.
What kind of game is 007 First Light?
IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as a standalone reimagining of James Bond’s origin: a 26-year-old Royal Navy air crewman recruited into MI6. PlayStation describes it as a third-person action-adventure combining stealth, unarmed and weapon combat, gadgets, and vehicles. Its official pitch allows players to go silent or loud, so it is not best understood as either a pure stealth simulator or a conventional shooter.
IO Interactive’s May 2026 launch announcement highlights several parts of the experience that help narrow down a follow-up: observational spycraft such as eavesdropping and pickpocketing; Bond’s Instinct for bluffing or luring; Q Branch gadgets for hacking, distractions, and quiet takedowns; and combat that can escalate from close-quarters encounters to ranged fights. It also describes Tactical Simulation (TacSim), a replay mode with modifiers, scored missions, and progression unlocks.
Which game should you play after 007 First Light?
| Game | Best fit if you want… | How it compares | Availability notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hitman World of Assassination | Stealth, planning, improvisation, and mission replay | The closest match by studio lineage: IO Interactive made both games. That makes it a natural pick for players interested in First Light’s stealth and improvisational side, but it does not establish that the games share the same pacing, mission structure, or stealth rules. | Current store and platform details were not established in the sources checked. |
| Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist | A covert-agent premise and stealth-action framing | Ubisoft describes it as a stealth-action thriller starring covert agent Sam Fisher as he confronts an escalating terrorist threat. It is a genre-level alternative, not a Bond story or a confirmed match for First Light’s gadget and mission systems. | Ubisoft’s page lists PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. It says online features, including multiplayer and co-op, are no longer supported. Check regional storefronts for current availability. |
| Metal Gear Solid | Tactical espionage, stealth, and a distinctive cinematic style | A broader genre direction for players who want tactical espionage rather than a close Bond substitute. The series should not be treated as one consistent experience; check the specific entry before choosing. | The exact entry, edition, platform, and current availability were not established in the sources checked. |
Choose by the part of First Light you want more of
For stealth, improvisation, and replay
Start with Hitman World of Assassination if what appealed to you was observing a situation, planning an approach, adapting when it changes, and returning to missions. The connection is IO Interactive’s own stealth-game lineage, not a claim that a Hitman mission plays like a Bond mission.
#1 Best Overall
- EXPANSIVE CAMPAIGN: Many real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.
- ADVANCED GUNPLAY PHYSICS AND TRAVERSAL: Use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.
- HIGH CALIBRE CUSTOMISATION: Use workbenches to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon – change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondaries and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.
- INVASION MODE – CAMPAIGN DROP IN PvP AND CO-OP: Invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.
- TENSE ADVERSIAL MULTIPLAYER: Customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.
For a covert operative in a stealth-action story
Try Splinter Cell: Blacklist if you are looking for a covert-agent lead and a stealth-action thriller. Ubisoft’s description supports that comparison. Its page also makes an important practical distinction: online multiplayer and co-op are no longer supported, even though the game’s listed platforms include older consoles.
For tactical espionage and cinematic style
Explore Metal Gear Solid if you want to branch into tactical espionage. Choose a particular entry and verify its current official listing before buying: the series is not a single uniform experience, and the available information here does not establish which edition or platform is right for you.

For Bond’s complete mix
None of these recommendations is established as a full substitute for First Light’s particular combination of spycraft, bluffing, gadgets, escalating combat, vehicles, and a standalone Bond origin. Pick the game that matches your favorite element rather than expecting the entire package to carry over.
