It is a funny, improvised fix—not a tested or certified GPU support. If you try any prop, make sure it is stable and clear of the fans, cables and airflow.
What the LEGO RTX 4090 photo shows
HotHardware reported on January 1, 2024, that Reddit user u/mallard91 used two stacks of roughly seven LEGO bricks each beneath the unsupported end of a PNY GeForce RTX 4090 XLR8. The post title says the card’s OEM sag bracket “won’t fit but you’ve got 4 kids.” HotHardware also reproduces the user’s joke that they had “finally found something that LEGOs are good for other than hurting [their] feet.” HotHardware’s report.
Why a large GPU can sag
A heavy graphics card is fastened to the case at its rear mounting points and sits in the motherboard’s PCIe slot. Its far end can droop when the card’s weight is not adequately supported. A prop beneath that end can reduce visible sag, but the report does not establish that this particular arrangement was tested for long-term safety. HotHardware notes concern about prolonged strain alongside reports of cracked RTX 4090 PCBs and possible degradation near the PCIe connection; it gives no failure-rate statistic.
Can you safely use LEGO bricks as a GPU support?
The anecdote shows that LEGO bricks were used as a makeshift prop; it does not establish that loose bricks are universally safe or suitable for every case. If considering any improvised support, check the fit with the PC powered off and ensure the prop is stable, supports rather than lifts the card, and cannot move into fans or obstruct airflow. Keep it clear of exposed electrical contacts and cables as well. If you cannot confirm those clearances, use a purpose-built support designed to fit your case and card.

LEGO stack or dedicated GPU bracket?
A purpose-built support offers specified dimensions and materials, while a brick stack is an improvised solution whose fit depends on the individual build. SPEED Designs lists an adjustable aluminium GPU Brick Stand intended for heavy RTX 3090/4090 cards. Its product page specifies a 40–120 mm adjustment range and includes an authentic LEGO 4×6 plate. What to check before fitting a support
- Measure the gap between the case floor and a suitable support point under the card; do not assume another RTX 4090 build has the same geometry.
- Identify a stable contact area that does not press on a fan, delicate cable or exposed electrical contact.
- Check that the support holds the card level rather than forcing its end upward.
- Confirm that the prop or bracket will not shift when the case is moved or when nearby cables are adjusted.
- For a commercial stand, verify the stated adjustment range and card compatibility against your case and GPU dimensions before buying.
Choosing an anti-sag support for a 4090
If the included bracket does not fit, look for an adjustable GPU support specifically compatible with RTX 4090-series cards, then compare its adjustment range with your case’s clearance and inspect where it contacts the card. The SPEED Designs stand is one documented example, but its listed compatibility does not guarantee a fit in every case. The LEGO photo is best understood as a clever one-build workaround, not evidence that loose bricks are an engineered anti-sag solution.
