There is no single post-update checklist screen: available controls and menu paths vary by watch model, phone and software version. Treat the checks below as a way to verify behavior—not evidence that an update reset a setting.
1. Confirm the watch and its apps are up to date
On Galaxy Watch3 and newer, Samsung’s US instructions give this path: Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Watch software update. On Wear OS watches, you may also be able to check on the watch at Settings > Software update. Menu labels can vary by model and software version. Samsung’s update guide also treats watch software updates and app updates as separate tasks.
Check the app store appropriate to your watch generation as well. Samsung’s US guide directs older models to Galaxy Store for app updates and Wear OS watches to Play Store. An up-to-date watch operating system does not by itself confirm that every watch app is current.
2. Check notification delivery in its separate layers
If alerts are missing, start in the Galaxy Wearable app at Watch settings > Notifications. Review the watch-wide notifications control, then check the switches for the individual phone apps whose alerts you want. Also look at advanced options, where supported, for showing notification details, waking the screen, and automatically enabling notifications for newly installed phone apps.

Some models offer a setting for showing alerts on the watch while you are using your phone. Choose the behavior you want: Samsung notes that Always show on both can make the phone and watch both sound and vibrate, regardless of which device you are using, and may affect battery use. 3. Inspect app permissions when a feature stops working
On Wear OS watches, permissions can be reviewed by category at Settings > Apps > Permission manager; you can also inspect permissions for an individual app. The available options and path depend on the watch software. Samsung explains the controls in its app permissions guide.

Check permissions when a particular app feature fails, rather than changing every permission without a reason. For example, if GPS is not working in one app, verify that app’s location access. Samsung’s GPS troubleshooting guidance recommends checking location permission and notes that menu paths may differ.
4. Trace battery changes to specific settings and behavior
If the watch seems to run down faster, investigate likely contributors instead of assuming the update caused the change. Samsung’s UK guidance, updated 14 February 2023, lists outdated or problematic apps, health tracking, network connections, Always On Display, notification details and screen wake among factors to consider. - Display and alerts: Review Always On Display, whether notifications show full details, and whether an alert wakes the screen.
- Tracking and connectivity: Consider which health trackers and network connections you keep active.
- Apps: Check for app updates, especially if the battery change began alongside unusual app behavior.
- Power saving: Use it if reduced consumption matters more than full functionality. Samsung says this mode limits performance and turns off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
These are factors Samsung identifies in its support guidance, not proof that any one setting is responsible for a particular watch’s battery use.

For a feature that is still broken after you have checked its app notification controls or relevant permission, check for an update to that watch app and restart the watch. If the issue persists, use Samsung’s support guidance for the specific symptom and model before considering a factory reset. A reset is a more disruptive step: back up the watch where available and be prepared to reconnect it to the phone and set it up again.
