Short answer: the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a refinement rather than a wholesale redesign. Its meaningful changes are the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a slightly larger display in a slimmer and lighter body, and Android 15 with One UI 7 at launch. The Galaxy S24 Ultra keeps the same 200MP main camera, dual-telephoto arrangement, 5,000mAh battery and S Pen support, so the better choice depends mainly on whether you need those specific changes and how much less the S24 Ultra costs.
Galaxy S25 Ultra vs S24 Ultra at a glance
Samsung’s two Ultra phones share the core formula: a large flagship display, a 200MP main camera, two telephoto cameras, a 5,000mAh battery and an integrated S Pen. The S25 Ultra changes the parts owners are most likely to notice over time: processing hardware, ultra-wide camera resolution, physical comfort and launch software.
| Feature | Galaxy S25 Ultra | Galaxy S24 Ultra | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy | A one-generation platform change; published figures here do not establish a universal performance percentage. |
| Main camera | 200MP | 200MP | No change in headline main-camera resolution. |
| Ultra-wide camera | 50MP | 12MP | The clearest camera hardware difference, relevant to landscapes, groups and close-up shooting. |
| Display size | 6.9 inches | 6.8 inches | The newer phone is marginally larger on the diagonal. |
| Dimensions | 162.8 × 77.6 × 8.2mm | 162.3 × 79.0 × 8.6mm | S25 Ultra is taller, narrower and thinner. |
| Weight | 218g | 232g | S25 Ultra is 14g lighter. |
| Battery | 5,000mAh | 5,000mAh | Rated capacity is unchanged. |
| Stylus | S Pen support | S Pen support | Both retain Samsung’s built-in pen experience. |
| Launch software | Android 15 with One UI 7 | Android 14 with One UI 6.1 | Current versions and feature availability depend on market and rollout date. |
These specifications come from Samsung’s official comparison and launch materials, with the dimensional summary in Samsung Electronics’ 2026 interim report: Samsung’s S25/S24 comparison, S25 launch information, S24 launch information and the 2026 Q1 Interim Report.

1. A newer Snapdragon platform
The S25 Ultra uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, while the S24 Ultra uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. Samsung’s investor reporting identifies this as the processor-generation change between the two models. It is a genuine hardware update, but the available specifications do not provide a single, independently measured performance percentage that applies to every task.

- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
For a buyer, the practical question is workload rather than the name on the chip. A newer platform can make the S25 Ultra the safer long-term choice for demanding games, intensive photo processing and future software features, but the S24 Ultra remains a current flagship platform. If your use is messaging, web browsing, streaming, note-taking and ordinary photography, the processor change alone is unlikely to justify paying any price premium without considering the other differences.
Do not treat the processor name as a promise of a particular battery-life gain or frame-rate advantage. Those outcomes vary with the app, software version, temperature, network conditions and power settings, and no universal benchmark result is established by the cited Samsung materials.
2. A much higher-resolution ultra-wide camera
The S25 Ultra replaces the S24 Ultra’s 12MP ultra-wide camera with a 50MP unit. Both phones still have a 200MP main camera and a dual-telephoto setup, so this is not a complete camera-system replacement. It is a targeted upgrade to the lens used for very wide scenes and certain close-up modes.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The difference matters most when you regularly photograph:
- Landscapes and architecture: an ultra-wide view fits more of a scene into one frame.
- Groups and interiors: the wider perspective can help when you cannot move farther away.
- Macro-style subjects: Samsung’s ultra-wide-based close-up modes can benefit from a higher-resolution sensor, although final results still depend on focus, light and processing.
- Crops from ultra-wide images: more recorded pixels provide more room to crop than a lower-resolution capture, but they do not guarantee a sharper picture in poor light.
Megapixels are only one part of image quality. Lens design, sensor size, stabilization, autofocus behavior, noise reduction, HDR processing and the selected shooting mode all influence the photograph. Therefore, the S25 Ultra’s 50MP specification establishes greater capture resolution; it does not by itself prove that every ultra-wide photo will look better in every condition.
3. A slimmer, lighter shape with a slightly larger display
Samsung lists the S25 Ultra at 162.8 × 77.6 × 8.2mm and 218g, compared with 162.3 × 79.0 × 8.6mm and 232g for the S24 Ultra. In other words, the newer model is 14g lighter and 0.4mm thinner, while also being slightly taller and narrower. Its display diagonal increases from 6.8 to 6.9 inches.

The dimensions describe a small change, but the combination affects daily handling. Less mass can make prolonged reading, gaming or note-taking less tiring, while the narrower body may be easier to grip for some hands. The larger diagonal is modest, so it should not be treated as a new screen class; it is a little more display area inside a revised shape.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhether the change feels substantial depends on your current phone, case and hand size. Someone already comfortable with the S24 Ultra may regard it as an incremental ergonomic improvement. Someone who finds the S24 Ultra heavy or broad may value the S25 Ultra more than a specification table suggests.
4. Newer launch software
The S25 Ultra launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. The S24 Ultra launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. That gives the S25 Ultra the newer software baseline out of the box, but it does not mean every S25-only feature will remain exclusive or that every S24 Ultra receives updates at the same time.
Samsung’s rollout schedules and feature availability can vary by country, carrier, language and date. When comparing two phones in a shop, check the installed build and the update screen rather than assuming that the launch version is still the current one. A phone bought later may have a different software state from the model’s original launch review.
What has not changed
The main camera remains 200MP
Both generations use a 200MP main camera. Moving from S24 Ultra to S25 Ultra therefore does not give you a new headline resolution on the primary camera. If most of your photos use the main lens in its standard mode, the ultra-wide change may be less important than the processor, body and software differences.
Both also retain a dual-telephoto arrangement. The supplied specifications identify the shared layout but do not establish a universal zoom-quality advantage for either model. Treat telephoto performance as a separate question from the ultra-wide upgrade, and compare the exact mode you use rather than assuming that a newer phone changes every camera.

The battery rating is the same
Each phone lists a 5,000mAh battery. Capacity is a rating, not a guarantee of equal endurance: processor efficiency, display settings, radio conditions, camera use and software can change how long a phone lasts between charges. The specification does mean that battery capacity is not an S25 Ultra upgrade reason by itself.
S Pen support remains part of the Ultra identity
Both models support the S Pen. Notes, annotations and other stylus workflows therefore do not require moving to the newer generation. If the pen is central to your decision, focus on the phone’s condition, software support and price rather than assuming that S25 Ultra ownership unlocks a fundamentally different stylus category.
Charging still needs the right accessories
Samsung’s S24 launch material lists up to 45W wired charging with a compatible adapter. The figure describes a maximum under Samsung’s stated conditions, not the result from every USB-C charger or cable. Verify that an accessory supports the required USB Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply (PPS) profile and that the cable is suitable before expecting the advertised rate. The available data does not establish a new charging-speed figure for the S25 Ultra, so do not buy it on the assumption of a faster maximum.
Camera choice: who benefits from the S25 Ultra?
Choose the S25 Ultra when ultra-wide work is central
People who frequently shoot city buildings, travel scenes, large groups or cramped rooms are the clearest beneficiaries of the 50MP ultra-wide hardware. The additional resolution also gives more flexibility when an ultra-wide frame needs a crop. These are capability advantages, not a guarantee that every image will be brighter, cleaner or better composed.
Keep the S24 Ultra if you mostly use the main or telephoto cameras
If your camera routine is dominated by the main camera, portraits or the existing telephoto lenses, the S25 Ultra does not replace those components with a different headline resolution. You may still prefer the newer processor, body or software, but the ultra-wide upgrade should not be used as a blanket claim that all S25 Ultra photos are better.
Use shooting conditions to set expectations
Ultra-wide lenses often face more difficult lighting and edge-distortion conditions than a standard lens. Resolution can preserve detail in a well-lit scene, while dim interiors may be constrained by noise and processing. The sensible comparison is a set of subjects that reflect your habits—daylight landscapes, indoor groups and close subjects—rather than a megapixel-only verdict.

Performance and software: deciding how long you will keep the phone
For a short ownership cycle
If you replace phones frequently and your current S24 Ultra is functioning well, the processor-generation change may not produce a compelling everyday difference in the tasks you already perform. The newer software baseline and lighter body can still be worthwhile, but they are convenience improvements rather than a new category of phone.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For a long ownership cycle
If you plan to keep the next phone for several years, starting with the newer Snapdragon platform and Android generation gives the S25 Ultra more chronological headroom. That is a purchasing rationale, not a measured promise about future speed. App requirements and Samsung’s update policy can change, so check the support terms that apply in your market at the time of purchase.
For demanding workloads
Gaming, high-resolution video work and computational photography place more sustained demands on a phone than messaging or email. The S25 Ultra is the logical choice when you want the newer platform, but the cited sources do not provide comparable thermal, frame-rate or battery-drain measurements. Do not substitute an unverified benchmark for your actual workload.
Design and display: is the physical change worth paying for?
The S25 Ultra’s body is narrower, thinner and lighter while accommodating a 6.9-inch display. That combination is the principal physical refinement. The S24 Ultra remains only slightly smaller on the diagonal, so buyers should think in terms of handling rather than expecting a visibly different size class.
Consider the change worthwhile when:
- You carry the phone all day and want to reduce weight.
- You use one hand often and a narrower body would improve reach.
- You read or annotate for long periods and value every ergonomic improvement.
- Your current phone feels bulky even before adding a protective case.
Consider keeping the S24 Ultra when its shape already works for you and the price gap is large. A case can also change the effective width and thickness of either model, so compare the complete setup you intend to carry, not only the bare handset.
Upgrade guide for current S24 Ultra owners
Upgrade now if these are your priorities
- You want the newer processor generation. The S25 Ultra is the only one of the two with Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy.
- You use the ultra-wide camera heavily. The move from 12MP to 50MP is the most substantial camera hardware change.
- You dislike the S24 Ultra’s weight or width. The newer design reduces both listed weight and thickness and is narrower.
- You want the newest launch software baseline. S25 Ultra starts with Android 15 and One UI 7, subject to market-specific updates.
Keep the S24 Ultra when these describe you
- Your photos mostly use the 200MP main camera or the existing telephoto system.
- The 5,000mAh battery rating and S Pen support already meet your needs.
- The S24 Ultra is substantially cheaper after an actual discount or trade-in.
- You are satisfied with its size and do not need the newer processor immediately.
Do the price calculation with your real offer
There is no permanent value winner because retail prices, promotions and trade-in credit change by country, storage configuration, seller and date. Compare the final amount you pay after trade-in, not an old launch price or an advertised headline discount. Include the cost of a compatible charger and a model-specific case if you need them.

A useful calculation is:
- Write down the S25 Ultra’s current checkout price in your market.
- Subtract the confirmed trade-in credit, not an estimated maximum.
- Record the S24 Ultra’s current price in the same storage class and condition.
- Assign a value to the features you will actually use: ultra-wide photography, lower weight, newer processor or launch software.
- Buy the S25 Ultra only when that feature value and longer ownership horizon justify the remaining difference.
Buying and accessory checks
Confirm the exact model
Cases and screen accessories must match the phone generation. The S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra have different listed dimensions, so a case designed for one should not be assumed to fit the other. Check the model name and regional variant on the retailer page before ordering.
Check charger and cable claims
For 45W-class charging on the S24 Ultra, Samsung specifies a compatible adapter. Look for USB-C Power Delivery with PPS support and verify the cable’s rating. A charger’s wattage printed on the box is not, by itself, proof that it will negotiate the phone’s maximum rate.
Check software and regional availability
Android and One UI features can arrive at different times by market and carrier. If a particular feature is a deciding factor, confirm that it is listed for your country, language and current software build instead of relying on launch-era descriptions.
Which phone is better?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the better-equipped model: it has the newer Snapdragon platform, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a lighter and slimmer body, a slightly larger display and a newer launch software generation. Those are concrete advantages, especially for heavy camera users and buyers keeping a phone for years.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is not made obsolete by that list. Its 200MP main camera, dual-telephoto setup, 5,000mAh battery and S Pen support remain aligned with the S25 Ultra’s core hardware. When the S24 Ultra costs materially less, it can be the more rational purchase for buyers who do not need the ultra-wide upgrade or ergonomic changes.
Make the decision from the features that affect your routine and the final price available today. Without current market pricing and trade-in values, a universal value verdict would be misleading.
