Verify the exact revision and your region’s warranty, price and stock before buying.
What exactly is the FSP Hydro PTM X Pro 1000W?
This review covers the ATX 3.0/PCIe 5.0 model HPT3-1000M Gen5. FSP’s US listing calls it HPT3-1000M, Gen5, while Aiuto’s Japanese listing writes HPT3-1000M.GEN5 and records a May 19, 2023 launch. FSP lists a newer ATX 3.1 variant separately, so check the label and listing carefully rather than assuming every Hydro PTM X Pro 1000W is the same revision.

- Eco Switch: When Eco Button is switched on, the PSU runs with lower power consumption and is whisper silent. The fan in the power supply will not operate when the power supply is under 30% loading for silent state.
- One 24-pin motherboard cable
- Two CPU 4+4-pin connectors
- Four PCIe 6+2-pin connectors
- One 12+4-pin 12VHPWR connector, specified for up to 600W
- Twelve SATA connectors
- Three peripheral (Molex-type) connectors
- One floppy connector
Use the cable supplied with this PSU and follow the graphics-card maker’s insertion and bend-clearance guidance. Do not buy a modular replacement cable merely because its plug looks identical: PSU-side pinouts are not universal, and an incompatible cable can damage hardware.
Efficiency: Platinum certification backed by a strong test result
AnandTech’s March 7, 2023 review measured average outlet efficiency across its nominal 20–100% load range at two input voltages:
| Input voltage | Average efficiency (20–100% nominal load) | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 230VAC | 93.6% | AnandTech laboratory result for this sample and test setup |
| 115VAC | 92.2% | AnandTech laboratory result for this sample and test setup |
AnandTech described these as unusually strong figures for an 80 PLUS Platinum unit. Efficiency was weaker at very low loads than around 20%, where the PSU can also run warmer. These are historical, outlet-side measurements—not a guarantee that every production unit, voltage or workload will produce the same number.

Noise and Eco-mode behavior
In AnandTech’s test, Eco mode was disabled, meaning the fan started as soon as the PSU was powered. Reviewer E. Fylladitakis wrote: “The fan stays almost inaudible while the load is lower than 500 Watt, at which point it will begin spinning quicker in order to cope with the increased losses.” Treat that as a test observation, not a universal 500W noise threshold: ambient temperature, case airflow, fan profile and sample variation all matter.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe Eco switch provides semi-fanless operation at low loads when enabled. That can reduce idle noise, but the fan will eventually run as heat and electrical load rise. A system that spends most of its time near desktop loads should behave differently from one rendering or gaming at several hundred watts.
Physical fit and installation
At 130mm deep, this is short for a full ATX 1000W unit. That helps in compact cases, but the PSU body is only part of the clearance calculation. Leave room for the modular plugs, cable exit, front-panel obstructions and the GPU power lead’s bend radius. Before installation, check the case’s PSU-length specification and the graphics card manufacturer’s clearance guidance.

Build quality and protection features
FSP lists over-current (OCP), over-voltage (OVP), over-power (OPP), short-circuit (SCP) and over-temperature (OTP) protection. NikkTech’s review also noted conformal coating, a single 83.33A +12V rail and praised the tested unit’s build quality and rail stability. Those are observations of the reviewed sample; they do not replace correct installation or protection against an external wiring fault.

How it compares with alternatives
Choose based on your system rather than the Platinum badge alone:
- GPU power: A 1000W rating and native 600W-capable 12VHPWR connection suit many high-end single-GPU systems, but follow the graphics card’s own wattage and connector requirements.
- Case fit: The 130mm depth is favorable, while plug and cable-routing space still needs checking.
- Efficiency: Compare measurements made at the same input voltage and load range; the AnandTech results are one dated outlet test.
- Noise: Consider expected load and whether Eco mode will be enabled instead of relying on a blanket silent-rating claim.
- Cabling: Count the four 6+2-pin PCIe, two CPU 4+4-pin, 12 SATA and three peripheral connectors against your build.
- Support: Compare the warranty actually offered in your region, not only the headline 10-year figure.
No like-for-like current competitor testing is available here, so this review does not claim that the Hydro PTM X Pro is today’s best-performing or best-value 1000W PSU.
Who should buy it?
It is a good candidate for a high-end gaming PC, creator workstation or other ATX build that benefits from a native 12VHPWR connection, substantial connector capacity and a compact 1000W chassis. It is less compelling if your case cannot provide cable-bend clearance, your system needs a different regional warranty arrangement, or current pricing places a newer, better-documented alternative at the same cost.
