FriendFlow AI is a task organizer built around a simple idea: write several work or personal tasks in one messy paragraph, then let AI turn them into individual items to review. Its creator, Nadun Jayaweera, describes an app that extracts task titles, due dates, and priorities using Gemma 3 1B running locally through Ollama. The approach can reduce repetitive form-filling, but the available account does not establish extraction accuracy, security, or hardware requirements.
How FriendFlow turns a paragraph into tasks
Instead of entering each task into a separate form, a user writes or pastes a note in ordinary language. Jayaweera illustrates the idea with: “Tomorrow I need to review the API PR, buy milk, send the project report today, and call Kasun.” FriendFlow is intended to extract separate task records from that kind of batch note.
- Write or paste a note: Combine several work and personal reminders in a natural-language paragraph.
- Send it for processing: The React frontend sends the note to an Express API endpoint.
- Extract task details: The backend prompts Gemma 3 1B running locally through Ollama to return structured data, including a title, due date, and priority.
- Review the results: The app displays the extracted tasks so the user can inspect them and mark tasks complete.
- Keep completed work: Completed tasks move into a completed-task history.
Jayaweera summarizes the product framing as: “Dump your thoughts first. Organize them later with AI.” (Jayaweera’s FriendFlow project article.)
What runs locally—and what that does and does not mean
Jayaweera reports that the app uses React, Vite, and CSS on the frontend; Node.js and Express on the backend; Ollama to run Gemma 3 1B locally; and local JSON storage for task data. The backend is described as normalizing and validating the model’s structured response before displaying tasks.

According to the author, this design avoids sending notes to an external AI API and keeps task data in local JSON. That is a description of the intended architecture, not an independently verified privacy guarantee. The account does not establish that the complete app makes no network requests, nor does it include a security audit or threat model. Local inference alone should not be treated as proof that all data stays private.
What to check before relying on extracted tasks
The project description does not report benchmark results or error rates. It also does not explain how the app handles ambiguous dates, omitted tasks, or details the model might invent. Treat extracted information as a draft to check, particularly when a deadline or priority matters.

- Check relative dates such as “tomorrow” against the intended calendar date.
- Verify priority labels rather than assuming the model understood your urgency.
- Make sure task details remain understandable when separated from the original paragraph.
