How do Fortnite Zero Build and Apex Legends play differently?
Fortnite Zero Build: combat without construction
Zero Build removes building from Fortnite’s battle royale mode. Epic describes it as a test of weapon, item, and traversal ability. Without structures to build for protection, movement and positioning matter: sprinting and mantling help you navigate terrain, and a recharging Overshield provides an extra defensive layer. Epic announced the mode on March 29, 2022.

Apex Legends: character abilities and squad tactics
Apex centers its fights on a roster of named characters, called Legends, each with distinct skills. Those abilities give squads different tactical options, so choosing a character and coordinating with teammates are central parts of play. EA describes Apex as a game of “deep tactical squad play” and introduces Legends as characters with their own skills. Read EA’s Apex Legends overview.
In practice, the distinction is not simply solo versus team play: both are battle royale games. It is whether you would rather solve engagements through no-build movement and gear choices, or through a squad’s mix of character abilities and coordination.

Which game has the modes you want?
Apex has several mode types in addition to its classic Battle Royale format. EA’s modes hub lists Battle Royale, Mixtape, and Wildcard; available playlists and rotations may change. EA describes classic Battle Royale matches as 60-person games, a figure that applies to that format—not necessarily to every mode. Check the Apex modes hub.

Can you play Fortnite or Apex on your console or phone?
Platform compatibility can settle the choice before playstyle does. Epic lists Fortnite for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android, and specified iOS/iPadOS devices. EA lists Apex for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. These lists do not make mobile support equivalent between the two games, and neither page guarantees availability on every device or in every region.
For Fortnite, consult Epic’s compatibility page for supported platforms and devices. For Apex, EA’s official game page and FAQ list PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through the EA App or Steam. EA says cross-play lets players party across currently supported platforms. Confirm your exact hardware and location before downloading.

Do purchases and progress carry across platforms?
For Fortnite, Epic says purchases and progress are accessible across linked platforms when the accounts use the same Epic account, with an exception: not all V-Bucks transfer. Check Epic’s account and progression guidance before linking accounts or expecting a currency balance to carry over.
Is Apex Legends harder than Fortnite Zero Build?
There is no established, independently measured difficulty comparison for these games in the cited official materials, so it would be misleading to label one objectively harder. The skills they emphasize differ: Zero Build asks you to make decisions about weapons, items, cover, and traversal without building, while Apex adds Legend abilities and tactical squad coordination. Which feels more demanding depends on what you find challenging and whether you are playing with a coordinated team.

Are both games free to play?
EA describes Apex Legends as free to play and notes that in-game purchases are available. You do not have to make an optional purchase to try the game. EA’s Apex page provides its current game information.

Balance is seasonal, so it should not be treated as a lasting reason to choose one game. EA’s September 14, 2026 Marked midseason patch notes said Split 2 would start September 15 and described changes to Legend balance, loot availability, and weapons. Those notes date the comparison; they do not establish a permanent advantage over Fortnite.
