Jérémy Hartvick, a former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA VI until 2020, has questioned whether bringing the game to Nintendo Switch 2 would make sense. His argument is about audience overlap and the risk of a subpar port—not proof that the console cannot run the game or a statement of Rockstar’s current plans.
What Hartvick said about GTA 6 on Switch 2
In remarks from a reported interview with Kiwi Talkz, Hartvick said: “I don’t believe it even makes sense. I’m not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience of the Switch.” He also pointed to “the risk of delivering a subpar experience.” Nintendo Everything reported the comments on October 2, 2026.

Those comments express Hartvick’s view of the potential audience and the quality risks of a port. They do not establish whether a Switch 2 version is technically feasible, profitable, or in development.
Why his former role matters
Hartvick is a former Rockstar open-world designer. GamesRadar reported on September 25, 2026 that he worked on GTA VI from 2017 to 2020 and described the interview as private at that time. Nintendo Everything also says he left Rockstar in 2020. His comments are therefore those of a former developer, not an announcement or current company position.

Which platforms are officially listed?
Rockstar’s platform and edition information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two Interactive’s preorder announcement gives November 19, 2026 as the launch date for those platforms. The official listings cited here do not include Nintendo Switch 2, so a Switch 2 release is not confirmed by these sources; that does not rule out a future announcement.
Rockstar’s GTA VI page is its official game information hub. Rockstar’s support page also says the physical version contains a download code; based on that description, it should not be assumed to include a game disc.

What this means if you are choosing a platform
For now, the official platform information cited here names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If portability is central to your decision, wait for an official Switch 2 announcement rather than treating Hartvick’s opinion as evidence of a port or its performance. The available sources do not establish Switch 2 frame rates, resolution, or other technical details for GTA VI.
