The aircraft diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it made an emergency landing. The UAE has not published a complete final investigation report.
What happened aboard flydubai FZ1073?
UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said the co-pilot began carrying out his plan in flight, attacked the captain inside the flight deck with a crash axe, and tried to take control of the aircraft’s flight controls. The Attorney-General’s statement described the incident as a planned and attempted terrorist act. Read the UAE Attorney-General’s October 3 statement.
This is the UAE’s current investigative finding, attributed to the Attorney-General; it is not a published final report from all authorities involved. The statement does not explain the alleged motive or identify an intended target beyond the flight itself.
How did the flight end up in Saudi Arabia?
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said FZ1073, operating from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30, experienced a security incident that was brought under control. The aircraft diverted and made an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. See the GCAA’s initial notice, carried by WAM.
