Floods and landslides in Nepal’s Myagdi district have damaged hydropower construction sites and disrupted electricity delivery from operating projects. In an October 3, 2026 report, Ratopati said three under-construction projects totaling 266 MW were affected and eight projects totaling 216 MW were disconnected from the national grid. Those are preliminary, report-specific figures—not a final damage tally.

What happened in Myagdi?

Recent floods and landslides affected hydropower projects in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi, including facilities under construction and projects that were operating or testing production. Ratopati reported that access to roads, electricity and communications had been disrupted, making a complete assessment difficult. The report did not establish a final loss figure or repair cost.

The October 3 figures describe two different impacts: physical effects on construction projects and disconnection from the national grid. A project counted as affected is not necessarily a project whose full generating capacity was offline, and a grid disconnection does not by itself show that a power station was physically damaged.

Which construction sites were damaged?

Middle Kaligandaki: extensive reported site damage

Ratopati described the 66.3 MW Middle Kaligandaki Hydropower Project, promoted by Hydro Support Pvt. Ltd., as the most severely damaged of the projects it covered. Floodwater breached a diversion and deposited silt at the dam site at Sukebagar. It also entered an audit tunnel.

The reported damage extended beyond the construction structures: the dam under construction, tunnel, housing, machinery and equipment, construction materials, diesel tank and workshop were affected. The project’s labor camp was swept away, and access to the camp and construction site was cut off.

Kaligandaki Gorge and Super Ghaledikhola

The same October 3 report said floods and landslides also affected construction of the 180 MW Kaligandaki Gorge and 9 MW Super Ghaledikhola projects. It did not provide a comparable itemized damage description for these two sites.

Which operating or testing projects were disrupted?

Rahughat’s test production stopped

Ratopati reported that test production at the 40 MW Rahughat project was halted after flood damage to the powerhouse premises. This is a reported physical impact at the project, distinct from a project being unable to transmit electricity because a line or tower is damaged.

Projects reported disconnected after transmission structures were washed away

The October 3 report named five projects shut down after transmission structures were washed away: 5 MW Ghaledikhola, 42 MW Mistrikhola, 38 MW Nilgiri-1, 71 MW Nilgiri-2 and 6 MW Relekhola. Ratopati’s summary put the total for eight grid-disconnected projects at 216 MW, but the article’s listed examples do not account for all eight projects. The full extent and project-by-project status were not established in that report.

DIY Hydropower Generator Electric Model Kit, Wooden Water Turbine Model
  • 【Motor Transmission Principles】This hydropower generator model showcases the working principles of pulley transmission and motor drive, allowing students to clearly observe how mechanical motion is transferred through belts and wheels
  • 【Hydropower Generation Structure】Designed with a water wheel, power transmission components, and a generator module, the model accurately replicates how real hydroelectric systems convert falling water energy into mechanical and electrical energy
  • 【Dual-Mode Operation for Learning】The model operates with or without water. When powered by the battery and motor, the system runs in reverse to simulate hydropower generation—using electrical energy to replace water flow, enabling demonstrations even without a water source
  • 【Complete DIY Assembly Kit】Includes a wooden triangular bracket, mini motor, battery box, pulley system, and water wheel components. Children can assemble the entire structure themselves, strengthening hands-on ability, engineering thinking, and scientific understanding.
  • 【Educational & Visually Engaging Design】With a beautifully designed structure and clear mechanical movement, this kit is ideal for classroom demonstrations, science fairs, and parent-child projects

Transmission damage can interrupt power evacuation even if a generating facility itself has not suffered major damage. The September 27 Ratopati account specifically linked disruption to damage on the Dana-Kushma 220 kV transmission line.

Why do published project totals differ?

Ratopati’s October 3 account reported three affected construction projects totaling 266 MW and eight projects totaling 216 MW disconnected from the grid. A separate Ratopati report dated September 27 described 12 projects totaling 358.2 MW as having stopped sending electricity after damage to the Dana-Kushma line. These are different dated reports with different stated scopes; they should not be added together or treated as interchangeable versions of one final count.
