The release also added a built-in, lightweight JavaScript engine. You can copy a script to the device and launch it from its Apps menu without compiling it on a PC, but the engine is not a full browser JavaScript runtime and its access is limited to documented device interfaces.
Why Firmware 1.0 mattered
Flipper Devices described Firmware 1.0 as its first major release, bringing features developed over three years to a stable release. Its significance was architectural as well as feature-focused: dynamic loading changed where apps could live and how they could be run.
Before that change, Flipper Devices says features were implemented as part of the firmware. Adding or fixing functionality therefore required a firmware release, and the team had reached limits in the device’s system flash memory. Firmware 1.0 introduced a loader for compiled Flipper Application Package (FAP) files stored on the microSD card. Moving apps outside the core firmware frees system flash for firmware itself and provides a way to distribute community apps through the Apps Catalog, which the 2024 announcement described as open source. This does not mean every third-party app has the same maintainer or compatibility guarantees.
The release also included a rewritten NFC subsystem, which Flipper Devices said was intended to improve reading speed and support for card types, plus a plugin system for user card parsers. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent performance findings. The announcement also reported longer standby life and faster Bluetooth data transfer and firmware updates. Its specific figures were “1 month in standby,” “up to 2x” faster Bluetooth data transfer with Android, and a 40% faster Bluetooth firmware-update upload. Flipper Devices reported these figures in 2024; they were not measured for this article.

How to run a JavaScript script on Flipper Zero
Firmware 1.0 added a built-in scripting engine so users could create apps without setting up a C/C++ development environment or learning the firmware SDK. Flipper Devices says example scripts are included in the Scripts folder. The basic workflow is to copy a JavaScript file to the device’s microSD card and launch it from the Apps menu.

- On a computer, use qFlipper or Flipper Lab to copy the script to
SD Card/apps/Scriptson the Flipper Zero microSD card. - On the device, open Apps → Scripts and select the script to run.
This process does not require compiling the script on a PC. Menu labels and the supported workflow can change across software versions, so check the current official JavaScript instructions if the folder or menu differs on your setup.
What JavaScript can access—and what it cannot
The engine is based on mJS, a resource-efficient JavaScript engine designed for microcontrollers. It is deliberately more limited than the engines used by modern web browsers, so browser APIs and the full JavaScript environment should not be assumed to be available. Flipper Devices’ announcement reported that mJS requires less than 50k of flash space and 2k of RAM; the company’s engine documentation also gives that resource figure.

Official documentation describes interfaces for selected Flipper Zero resources, including the GUI, buttons, USB-HID, GPIO and UART. Documented modules include serial, badusb and math, alongside other device resources such as GPIO and device information. These are documented interfaces, not unlimited access to every device function. The module guide and engine documentation describe what is exposed.
Do Flipper Zero apps work with every firmware version?
No. A FAP includes compatibility metadata, including its required API version. The App Loader checks whether the app’s major API version matches the firmware’s major API version. If a community app will not load, check the app’s required API and the firmware version before assuming the file is damaged. See the official FAP documentation for details.

What Firmware 1.0 means for Flipper Zero now
Firmware 1.0 is a stable architectural milestone, not a statement of the device’s current firmware version. In a post dated 1 July 2026, Flipper Devices said the architecture became the foundation of stable Firmware 1.0 after the Apps Catalog launch in 2024. The company said it had stabilized the firmware API and SDK for app developers and described a shift toward maintenance, critical bug fixes and community contributions under clearer processes. That is the company’s stated plan at that date, not a promise that every requested change or contribution will be accepted. Read the July 2026 development update.
Flipper Devices’ firmware releases page is the place to check for releases and changes. A version number shown there should not be treated as current without checking the live listing.
