Fizz says its recent RCS platform upgrade now delivers the service according to a customer’s plan, and that RCS requires its texting option, which it describes as unlimited texting on eligible plans. Multiple subscribers have reported that RCS stopped working, but those reports do not establish how many customers are affected or confirm one cause for every case.
Why some Fizz customers say RCS stopped working
In a report published October 2, 2026, iPhone in Canada said multiple Fizz subscribers reported recently losing RCS. The complaints included Android users whose plans did not include unlimited texting. These are customer accounts, not a confirmed network-wide outage or a verified incident count.
Fizz told the publication that RCS support has long been tied to its texting option. The carrier said it recently upgraded its RCS platform to support messaging between Android and iPhone users and revised its FAQ. Fizz acknowledged that some Android customers may previously have been able to use RCS without the relevant plan feature.
A Fizz spokesperson, whose name and role were not given, said: “The updated version of the platform ensures reliable delivery of the feature in accordance with the customer’s plan.” The explanation is Fizz’s account of the platform change; the individual customer reports do not show whether eligibility, device setup, or another issue explains any particular case.

Does Fizz now require unlimited texting for RCS?
Fizz’s stated requirement is a plan with its texting option. The carrier’s October 2 explanation specifies that this means unlimited texting, because Fizz plans that include texting offer unlimited messages. A plan without that option may therefore no longer qualify, even if RCS appeared to work on the line previously.
Fizz’s Android RCS FAQ also lists a mobile plan that includes texting, a compatible Android phone, updated Google Messages, and mobile data or Wi-Fi as prerequisites. The general Fizz service-status page currently says services are fully functional, but it is not a specific RCS incident report and does not rule out line-level eligibility or provisioning problems.

What to check if RCS is unavailable
1. Confirm that your plan includes texting
Check your plan in your Fizz account and confirm it includes the texting option. If you need to add SMS, Fizz says a plan change takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Its plan-change guidance says adjustments must be made up to 72 hours before the cycle ends, so a change may not restore RCS immediately.
2. Check the Android phone, app, and connection
- Make sure the phone is compatible with RCS.
- Update Google Messages to its latest available version.
- Confirm the phone can connect through mobile data or Wi-Fi.
A Fizz community moderator’s July 2025 post listed Android 5.0 or higher among the then-published prerequisites. That historical guidance is not confirmation of Fizz’s current supported-device policy.

3. Restart or test the SIM in another compatible phone
Restart the phone and check whether RCS returns. If practical, test the Fizz SIM in another compatible phone. This can help distinguish a handset-specific setup issue from a problem tied to the line or plan; it will not make an ineligible plan eligible.
4. Deactivate RCS on an old phone after switching
If you moved your number from another Android phone, turn off RCS on the old device. If you no longer have access to it, use Google’s RCS deactivation form. Fizz includes this step in its RCS troubleshooting guidance.

5. Ask Fizz support to check continuing problems
If your plan qualifies and the phone, app, connection, restart, and old-device checks do not resolve the problem, contact Fizz support. Carrier-side provisioning or an individual account issue may need attention; a new phone or accessory cannot change the plan requirement.
