A video still processing or uploading on your computer does not, by itself, establish why a scheduled YouTube live stream is dropping. YouTube’s guidance treats upload delays and live-stream faults separately. Check the encoder and Live Control Room preview first, then investigate the outgoing connection and any YouTube restrictions. Let the separate upload finish, but don’t assume it caused the interruption.
First, identify what “processing locally” means
That phrase can describe an encoder rendering a file, a file transfer, or work in another application. YouTube’s published upload guidance explains why uploads can take a long time, but does not establish that local processing interrupts a live stream. Without the encoder, operating system, exact error, CPU and network readings, and information about the local recording and YouTube preview, a cause cannot be determined from that description alone.
Diagnose the live feed on its own evidence. If the stream drops while the encoder is busy processing, note whether the encoder output, CPU load, local archive, preview, or network connection changes at the same time. A correlation is useful to investigate, but is not proof that the upload caused the fault.
Trace the interruption from encoder to YouTube
1. Check the encoder’s output
Look and listen to the output inside your encoder while the interruption occurs. Note any error message and check whether the video and audio sources are still working. Review CPU load, and check the encoder’s local archive if it is recording one: YouTube advises confirming that archive files are intact and growing. If the output is already faulty in the encoder, investigate the sources and encoder configuration before blaming the network.

YouTube’s live-stream tips recommend preparing the encoder in advance and checking the preview. If you use another encoder, compare whether it supports the workflow you need and whether its output stays healthy; the cited YouTube guidance does not establish that one encoder vendor performs better than another.
2. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the scheduled event. Check whether a preview appears and whether YouTube reports stream-health problems. For a scheduled encoder stream, connect using that event’s stream URL and key, wait for the preview, and then start the live stream. YouTube’s setup instructions describe this sequence in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

If the encoder reports a startup error, YouTube recommends creating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. Use the key associated with the scheduled stream; after changing it, confirm that the encoder connects and a preview returns.
3. If the encoder looks healthy, investigate the outgoing connection
A clean encoder output alongside a missing or unstable YouTube preview points toward the path from the encoder to YouTube. Test the connection’s available upload capacity and stability while the encoder is running. YouTube says the configured stream bitrate needs to fit available bandwidth and recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom. That is YouTube Help guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable under every condition.

If possible, compare the current network path with a wired Ethernet connection as a diagnostic. Check whether interruptions track network load or connection tests, and contact your ISP if those tests point to a connection problem. A cable change alone is not a guaranteed fix. YouTube’s Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream and Streaming tips pages explain the connection checks and bandwidth guidance.
4. Check for a policy interruption
When Studio indicates that the stream stopped or was restricted, check YouTube Studio for copyright notices, strikes, or other channel restrictions. YouTube says detected third-party content can temporarily interrupt or terminate a live stream. A working encoder and connection do not rule out a policy-related cause; see Copyright issues with live streams.

Handle the upload separately
Upload time can vary with file size, connection bandwidth, upload traffic, and video quality. YouTube recommends allowing a slow upload to finish. If a previous upload was interrupted, YouTube says it can be resumed for up to 24 hours by selecting the same file. This is upload guidance, not evidence that the unfinished upload caused a live-stream interruption. See Video stuck during upload.
When you need a YouTube stream to keep running without a home computer
For a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to running an encoder on a computer: it loops your uploaded video or playlist from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
