If XSplit Broadcaster shows an image, video, or audio source as offline after you move to a different PC, make the original media file available on the new computer, then relink it in that source’s properties. XSplit documents changing the file for an individual source; its instructions do not describe a bulk relink tool. Check each affected source in the scene after updating it.

Relink offline media sources on the new PC

XSplit media sources refer to files selected on a computer. Moving a presentation to another PC does not, by itself, ensure those files are available there. XSplit’s Image, Video, and Audio Source instructions describe browsing to media on the computer and changing the linked file through the source’s properties.

  1. Make the media files available. Copy the original image, video, and audio files to the destination PC, or connect storage that contains them. Keeping familiar filenames and a stable folder structure can make it easier to identify the right files.
  2. Open the XSplit presentation and locate sources marked offline.
  3. Open a source’s properties. Right-click the offline source and open its properties.
  4. Choose the replacement file. In the Media Source control, browse to the corresponding file on the new PC and select it.
  5. Check the source in the scene. Confirm that the expected image, video, or audio is available, then repeat the process for each offline source.

XSplit’s documented procedure changes the media file for a source; it does not establish a bulk relink workflow. Plan to update affected sources individually unless the version you use provides other instructions.

Moving a group of files

A portable external SSD can be a convenient way to carry a collection of media assets between computers. It is optional: XSplit’s instructions do not require a particular storage device, and connecting a drive does not automatically update the sources’ file selections.

Does exporting a presentation include its media?

XSplit’s Presentation Switcher documentation describes importing and exporting presentations, but labels the feature as available only in the Public Beta release. It does not state that external media files used by sources are packaged in an exported presentation. Treat the presentation and its media files as separate items to transfer unless the instructions for your installed version say otherwise.

XSplit’s New XSplit Infrastructure Launch FAQ, updated September 5, 2025, says scenes, sources, and settings stay on the user’s device during its infrastructure transition. That describes persistence on the same device, not automatic copying to a second PC. The FAQ also gives legacy-version guidance for licenses created before September 3, 2025; check the current FAQ and your account situation before acting on version advice.

If the relinked source displays black

An offline source and a source that has been linked but renders black are different problems. First confirm that you selected the right file and that it plays on the destination computer. If the source is no longer offline but remains black, try the separate playback and display suggestions in XSplit’s Fixing Sources That Only Display Black article, updated November 8, 2022:

  • Change Advanced video processing mode to Prefer GPU.
  • If the setting is available, disable Use Media Foundation Engine for video playback.

These are troubleshooting steps for black playback, not fixes for a missing or incorrectly linked file. XSplit’s December 2024 release notes for Broadcaster 4.5.2412.0304 mention fixes for certain media playback issues, including a GPU-mode failure with specific files. That is historical release information, not confirmation of a migration fix in your current version.

File types and what to check

XSplit’s source documentation gives examples of supported media formats, including PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, TIFF, MP4, FLV, WEBM, and MP3. The examples do not promise that every listed format will play identically on every computer.

  • Source still says offline: check that the file exists on the destination PC, then choose it again through the source’s Media Source control.
  • Source is linked but black: verify the selected file and its playback on the PC, then try the documented video-processing settings above.
  • Presentation transferred but media did not: copy the media separately and relink the affected sources. Presentation export documentation does not establish that external files are included.
  • Unsure which file is expected: compare filenames and inspect the folder where your media was stored on the original PC, if it is still available.

XSplit’s documentation does not establish whether source paths are stored as absolute paths, relative paths, or another format. It also does not confirm that every exported presentation packages its media or provide a documented mass-relink function.
