First check whether Playwright is capturing only the viewport. A plain screenshot does that by default; set fullPage: true in JavaScript or full_page=True in Python to request the full scrollable page. If the bottom is still missing, inspect any clip rectangle, identify which element actually scrolls, and make sure the relevant content has finished rendering before capture.
1. Request a full-page screenshot
Playwright’s default page screenshot covers the current viewport. To include the full scrollable page, enable the full-page option:

The official Playwright screenshots documentation describes a full-page image as a capture of the full scrollable page.
2. Check whether a clip rectangle limits the image
If the screenshot call includes clip, its x, y, width, and height define a bounded output rectangle. That rectangle may exclude the bottom even when the page itself is taller.

- Temporarily remove
clipand capture again to see whether the omitted area returns. - If a crop is intentional, increase the clip’s height or adjust its coordinates to include the desired region.

3. Identify which element owns the scrolling
Full-page capture targets the full scrollable page. Some applications instead place content in a nested panel with its own scrollbar. Inspect the page layout and reproduce the issue to determine whether the document or a nested element is scrolling. If the content is inside a panel, the page-level full-page option may not capture that panel’s entire contents as intended; choose a capture strategy that targets the relevant element or otherwise handles that container. Playwright supports element screenshots as well as page screenshots, but there is no universal nested-scroller recipe that fits every layout.

4. Wait for the page state you actually need
A capture taken before content or layout has settled can omit material that appears later. Wait for a meaningful condition tied to the page, such as the appearance of a content selector, rather than assuming that an arbitrary delay will fix the problem.
For motion-related instability, the screenshot API’s animations option defaults to allow. The API also supports a stylesheet for hiding dynamic elements or adjusting styles during capture. These can make captures more repeatable, but they do not correct a wrong capture boundary or scroll target. See the screenshot API options for the available settings.

5. Separate image scale from capture height
The scale option changes how CSS pixels map to output pixels; it does not extend the requested capture area. scale: 'css' maps one screenshot pixel to one CSS pixel. scale: 'device' captures device pixels and can produce a larger image on a high-DPI setup. If the image dimensions are unexpected, check scale separately from whether the bottom of the page was included.
6. Use the capture target that matches the job

7. Troubleshoot in this order
- Confirm the option. Check that the screenshot call sets
fullPage: trueor Python’sfull_page=Trueif the goal is the whole scrollable page. - Remove the crop as a test. If there is a
clip, omit it once and compare the result. - Inspect the scroll owner. Determine whether the missing content is in the document or in a nested scrolling element.
- Wait for the right state. Wait for the relevant content or layout condition; use screenshot-time animation or stylesheet options only when motion or dynamic styling is involved.
- Check scale only for pixel-size differences. It changes output density, not the capture boundary.
- Investigate a version-specific regression last. Reproduce with the installed Playwright version, browser, viewport, and a minimal page before concluding that a framework bug is responsible.
When a framework bug is suspected
A closed GitHub issue opened June 9, 2022 described a full-page screenshot assertion that captured only the viewport with Playwright 1.22.2 and Chromium on Windows and Linux. It is a historical report tied to that version and environment, not evidence that current Playwright generally clips full-page screenshots. See the issue report, then test your own minimal reproduction before relying on a bug diagnosis.

Does changing screenshot scale recover a clipped bottom?
No. Scale changes output pixel density; check full-page capture, clipping, and the scroll owner for missing content.
Does the old Playwright issue mean full-page capture is currently broken?
No. The cited report concerned Playwright 1.22.2 and Chromium in 2022. Reproduce the problem on your own current setup before treating it as a general regression.
