First check OBS’s dropped-frame counter while the prerecorded playlist is live. If it rises, OBS is struggling to maintain its connection to YouTube’s ingest server; if it stays steady while viewers buffer, investigate YouTube’s stream health, latency and playback conditions instead. Test over Ethernet before blaming Tata Play Fiber: its published troubleshooting guidance does not establish a YouTube-specific fault on the provider’s network.
Identify where buffering starts
A prerecorded playlist still has to be encoded and sent continuously as a live feed. The fact that the video is prerecorded does not eliminate the need for a stable connection from the OBS computer to YouTube.

OBS Project’s official connection troubleshooting guide says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” The guide identifies the connection between the computer and the remote ingest server as the relevant path. That does not rule out local software or equipment affecting the connection, but it is a reason to start with the network and stream settings rather than reinstalling OBS.
Run a representative test over Ethernet
- Reproduce the real setup. Use the actual playlist or scene, a segment with representative motion and audio, and the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream. Monitor OBS’s dropped-frame count and YouTube’s stream health during the test.
- Connect the OBS computer directly to the Tata Play Fiber router or ONT by Ethernet. Compare performance with Wi-Fi from the same computer. Tata Play Fiber’s FAQ recommends a direct LAN/Ethernet test and notes that Wi-Fi performance can vary with distance, walls, interference, device capability and connected-device load.
- Repeat at different times. Note whether the wired result changes during busier periods. Pause unnecessary downloads and other heavy network activity so competing household use does not obscure the test.
- Record the evidence. Note when OBS drops frames, the wired and Wi-Fi upload results, the YouTube health messages and the time of any viewer reports. A direct-wired test isolates Wi-Fi as a cause; it does not guarantee a fix for congestion or a problem farther along the provider’s route.
If you need a cable for this test, a Cat 6 Ethernet cable can provide the direct connection. It is a diagnostic aid, not a guaranteed cure for ISP congestion.

Set OBS bitrate to fit stable upload capacity
Use upload capacity measured on the wired connection—not the download speed advertised for your plan—to choose the stream bitrate. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total stream bitrate. Treat this as headroom guidance, not a guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable.

YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. These examples apply to the stated H.264 resolutions and frame rate; check YouTube’s current table for other codecs, resolutions or frame rates. If measured upload varies or cannot sustain the stream with the recommended headroom, reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate and test again. A plan’s advertised speed is not proof of sustained upload performance.
Check YouTube ingest health and playback settings
- Open YouTube Live Control Room during the stream. Check the health indicator and note the time and wording of any warning. Compare its timestamp with OBS drops and reports from viewers.
- Verify the encoder configuration. Check that OBS is sending a format and keyframe interval consistent with YouTube’s encoder requirements. YouTube’s encoding error guidance identifies incorrect stream format and keyframe configuration as possible ingestion problems.
- Consider latency if OBS stays stable but playback buffers. YouTube warns that lower latency can mean more playback buffering. Review the options in its live streaming latency settings; a less aggressive latency setting may suit viewers better if immediate interaction is not essential.
- Check the affected audience. If only some viewers report buffering, ask them to try another device or network. A stable OBS connection does not establish that every viewer’s playback path is healthy.
Check local software, router and provider conditions
- Temporarily test without a VPN, if one is in use, to see whether the route changes.
- Check firewall or security settings and vendor network-boost software for rules that may deprioritize OBS. Do not leave security protections disabled as a permanent fix.
- Make sure network drivers are current and restart the router as Tata Play Fiber advises in its troubleshooting FAQ.
- Compare wired tests at different times and reduce competing device use. Tata Play Fiber recommends these checks, but they do not demonstrate a provider-wide YouTube routing defect.
Tata Play Fiber’s citizens charter, marked as of March 31, 2025, lists under 1% packet loss as a wireline service benchmark. That is a provider benchmark, not a measurement of your line or a guarantee about the route to YouTube.

Troubleshoot by symptom

When to contact Tata Play Fiber support
If connection drops or poor upload persist during wired tests at multiple times, contact Tata Play Fiber with the timestamps, wired and Wi-Fi speed-test results, and any OBS log or YouTube stream-health messages. Tata Play Fiber’s FAQ recommends comparing LAN and Wi-Fi, testing at different times, reducing competing devices, restarting the router and contacting support if the problem continues. OBS also advises contacting the ISP when its connection checks do not resolve dropped frames.
