If audio starts in sync but gradually slips out of sync during a long YouTube lofi stream, do not try to fix it by repeatedly changing a sync offset. First find out whether the mismatch is fixed or increasing, and whether it occurs in OBS monitoring, the local recording, the stream output, or YouTube playback. A sync offset can correct a stable delay; accumulating drift calls for investigating timing, devices, sample rates, and routing.
First determine what is out of sync
Compare the same recognizable moment near the beginning and later in the stream. A beat aligned with a visible animation change works well for lofi; a deliberate test marker can make the comparison easier. Note when the mismatch appears and how long the stream has been running.
- Roughly the same separation throughout: this looks like a fixed delay. Identify which output has it before adjusting anything.
- The separation grows over time: this is accumulating drift. A fixed sync offset is not a reliable cure because it does not correct a timing difference that continues to change.
Check the symptom in each relevant place: what you hear through OBS monitoring, OBS program output, a local recording, YouTube playback, and the resulting VOD. These outputs may not behave alike.
Compare OBS monitoring, recording, and YouTube playback
Make a local recording while reproducing the long-session problem. Compare its audio and video with YouTube playback of the same event, and listen separately to OBS monitoring. This helps isolate the part of the path that needs attention rather than treating every mismatch as an OBS stream-output problem.

- Only monitoring drifts: investigate the monitoring device and its routing separately. A 2023 OBS forum discussion describes one setup where monitor-device delay accumulated while the participant described stream and recording output differently. That is a report from one configuration, not a guarantee about OBS behavior.
- The local recording and program output are affected: inspect the sources, devices, timing settings, and OBS performance during a reproduction.
- The local recording is in sync but YouTube playback is not: preserve both examples and investigate the output or platform path before changing local settings blindly. YouTube’s audio guidance is for uploads, not a diagnosis or fix for live OBS streams.
A historical OBS issue reported that, on Windows 10 with OBS 26.0.2, a 500 ms sync offset appeared to work in program view but not in recording or stream output until the value was re-entered after streaming began. This illustrates why the affected output and OBS version matter; it does not establish that current OBS versions share the same bug.
Inspect the audio chain and timing settings
Write down every source and device in the path: music playback, microphone if present, capture-device audio, virtual routing, and physical monitoring output. Then check the relevant sample-rate settings and simplify the chain for a controlled test.

- Compare sample rates. Check OBS’s audio sample-rate setting against the settings for the audio devices involved. YouTube lists 44.1 or 48 kHz as sample-rate options in its upload recommendations, but that upload guidance does not establish a live-stream repair. Keep the settings consistent where the devices and workflow allow it.
- Look for separate timing sources. Separate USB audio devices, capture devices, and physical monitors can have independent timing behavior. Clock differences are worth investigating, but without evidence from your setup they are only a possible cause, not a diagnosis.
- Check logs and OBS statistics. During the reproduction, note any performance or delivery warnings. Change one major variable at a time and record whether the timing changes.
- Simplify routing as a test. If practical, temporarily reduce the number of independent devices and virtual-routing steps. A third-party troubleshooting guide suggests consolidating sources through one audio interface where practical; this is optional and depends on the setup, not a required purchase or universal fix.
Choose a fix based on the pattern
| What you observe | What to investigate | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The same offset is present from the start and stays roughly constant | Which source and output have the delay | Adjust the relevant source’s sync offset, then verify it in the output you actually need to correct. Do not copy an offset from another setup. |
| The mismatch gets larger during the session | Device timing, sample-rate consistency, buffers, routing, and OBS logs or statistics | Simplify the chain for a controlled test and change one major variable at a time. Repeatedly changing a fixed offset will not correct an ongoing timing change. |
| OBS monitoring drifts, but recording and stream output do not | Monitoring device, monitor routing, buffering, or device clock behavior | Test the monitoring path separately. Buffering and clock behavior were proposed as explanations in a report about one setup, so confirm rather than assume them. |
| Local recording is synchronized but YouTube playback is not | The difference between the local file and platform output | Keep both examples and investigate the output path. Do not treat YouTube’s upload recommendations as a live-stream diagnosis. |
| OBS reports dropped frames | Connection instability or bitrate capacity | Investigate delivery using OBS’s connection guidance. Dropped frames alone do not prove the cause of audio drift. |
Verify the change in a long-session reproduction
- Repeat the conditions that exposed the issue, including the same sources, routing, and a comparable stream duration.
- Compare a local recording with the YouTube output and check OBS monitoring separately. Do not rely only on the preview.
- If you changed a device or driver, restart OBS and repeat the comparison.
- Keep notes on the settings changed, when the drift begins, and which outputs are affected. If the problem remains, those details help narrow the cause.
Without the OBS version, operating system, devices and their sample rates, monitoring choices, routing, and local-versus-YouTube comparison, it is not possible to identify the root cause in a particular stream with confidence.

If the underlying goal is to keep a YouTube lofi stream running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option—not a repair for audio drift already present in a video. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
