If YouTube reports a wrong audio sample rate, first check whether your stream is stereo or 5.1 surround: YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1. If the warning says your primary and backup feeds differ, set both feeds to the same rate. Tamil-language content is not an established cause of this warning.
Read the exact YouTube warning first
YouTube distinguishes an audio sample-rate configuration warning from a warning that the primary and backup streams use different sample rates. The remedy depends on which message appears. Check the stream-health or configuration message in YouTube Studio rather than assuming the issue is caused by the channel’s language or its 24/7 schedule. YouTube’s LiveStreams API documentation and configuration issue guidance describe these warnings.
Match the sample rate to the audio layout
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives different recommended rates for stereo and 5.1 surround: 44.1 kHz for stereo audio, and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Check the channel layout your encoder actually sends, then compare its emitted sample rate with the recommendation for that layout. Do not treat 48 kHz as universally correct or change a stereo stream to 5.1 simply to clear a warning. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| Outgoing audio layout | YouTube recommended sample rate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | Confirm the encoder output is stereo and configured for 44.1 kHz. |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | Confirm the encoder output is 5.1 and configured for 48 kHz. |
Check the encoder and audio devices
For OBS Studio
- Open Settings → Audio.
- Inspect the sampling-rate setting and verify that the selected audio devices are the devices you intend to use.
- Check that the audio layout and sample rate emitted by the stream match YouTube’s recommendation for stereo or 5.1.
- Make one change at a time, then test with a short stream or recording before relying on the setup for the continuous channel.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health messages after the test. OBS’s Overview Guide describes the sampling-rate setting, and its Quick Start Guide covers audio-device selection and testing.
For another encoder
Find its audio output or encoder settings and verify the actual channel layout and sample rate. Menu names vary by encoder, so use that encoder’s documentation for the exact control. If its configured output looks correct but YouTube still reports an unexpected rate, gather the diagnostic details listed below rather than changing hardware without evidence.

Align primary and backup feeds
If YouTube specifically reports a primary/backup sample-rate mismatch, compare the two feeds and set them to the same audio sample rate. A matching rate across both feeds addresses that warning; it does not replace checking that the rate also suits the channel layout. YouTube documents the mismatch as a separate configuration issue in its LiveStream configuration guidance.
Test the fix before returning to 24/7 operation
- Start a short test stream after changing the settings.
- Check YouTube stream health for the same sample-rate warning and confirm whether it clears.
- If you use a backup feed, confirm that YouTube no longer reports a rate difference between the feeds.
- Only rely on the changed configuration for the continuous channel after the test behaves as expected.
A 24/7 schedule makes a brief test especially useful before applying a change to the channel’s ongoing stream. It does not, by itself, identify the cause of the warning.

If the warning remains
Record these details so you or your encoder’s support team can trace the signal path:
- Encoder name and version, and operating system.
- Whether the outgoing channel layout is stereo or 5.1 and the sample rate the encoder sends.
- The audio source device or software and the relevant encoder audio settings.
- The exact YouTube stream-health message.
- Whether a backup feed is active and, if so, its sample rate.
The information available for this issue does not identify a specific encoder, device, or source chain, so it cannot establish a single root cause. The documented remedies are to check the output settings and align primary and backup rates where applicable. A warning alone is not evidence that you need to buy an audio interface, replace a cable, or replace the encoder.
