Which tracker should you buy?

Choose Fitbit Air for low-distraction, continuous wear

Air’s main advantage is its discreet, screenless form. It tracks wellness and activity information without putting a display or notifications on your wrist, and Google specifies a weight of 5.2 g without the band. You’ll use the phone app when you want to review your information, and outdoor location tracking depends on carrying the paired phone, according to Tom’s Guide.

Air is a better fit if you value a small tracker and longer stated battery life over glanceable workout stats or wrist controls. It is not the right choice if phone-free GPS is important.

Choose Charge 6 for workouts and wrist interaction

Charge 6 suits people who want to check information on the device, interact with connected services, and record outdoor routes without bringing a phone. Its onboard GPS is the decisive difference for phone-free location tracking. Google also lists ECG and other health-related sensors, alongside Maps, Wallet, and YouTube Music controls.

Health features: what the lists do and don’t establish

Both trackers cover core wellness tracking, but the published feature lists are not identical. Google highlights continuous heart rate, rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts, oxygen saturation, HRV, and sleep tracking for Air. For Charge 6, Google lists ECG, blood oxygen, skin temperature, and electrodermal activity, among other features.

Battery life, compatibility, and cost

Battery life is an estimate, not a guarantee

Google rates Air for up to seven days and says a five-minute charge can provide a day of use. Tom’s Guide lists Charge 6 for up to six days and says its reviewer’s testing matched that estimate. Those are published claims and a reviewer’s results, not a guarantee of your runtime: usage, settings, and conditions affect battery life.

Check phone compatibility before choosing

Air requires a Google Account and the Google Health app on Android 11 or later, or iOS 16.4 or later. For Charge 6, verify the current requirements for your phone rather than assuming every Android or iPhone version is supported. Some features may also depend on country availability.
