First, compare Firefox’s Save full page and Save visible captures. If the strip appears only on one site, the page may load content as you scroll or place it in an independently scrolling panel—neither is necessarily included in a document-level screenshot. Test Firefox Troubleshoot Mode and hardware acceleration only to isolate possible browser causes; historical reports do not establish a universal fix.
Compare Firefox’s full-page and visible captures
- Right-click an empty part of the webpage and select Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page and save the image.
- Repeat with Save visible. You can also select a region in the screenshot interface and download or copy it.
- Compare the results. If the blank strip occurs only in the full-page image, investigate how the page scrolls and loads content before changing Firefox settings.
These are Firefox’s built-in screenshot options, documented in Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox help page, last updated June 15, 2026.
Check whether the problem is limited to one page
Capture a regular long webpage and the affected page. If the ordinary page works, the affected site’s layout or loading behavior is a more useful lead than a browser-wide screenshot failure.
Look for an inner scrolling panel
Some applications keep their content inside a fixed-height panel that scrolls independently from the main document. Firefox’s full-page capture targets the document; it does not necessarily capture all the content hidden inside a nested scrolling area. Scroll within the panel and capture the visible sections separately.

Look for content that appears as you scroll
Virtualized feeds may create or load items only when they enter the visible area. A full-page capture can include content already loaded without forcing every item farther down the feed to appear. Scroll through the feed first, then capture sections as needed.
Mozilla engineers discussed these limitations, including virtualized feeds and nested scrollers, in Bug 1810767. A full-page screenshot should not be assumed to scroll every pane or load every item on a page.

Test browser-side causes without treating them as certain
If the strip appears on multiple unrelated pages, isolate browser conditions. Mozilla Support’s 2019 troubleshooting thread concerned Firefox 67 on Windows 10: the user reported that disabling hardware acceleration fixed that particular case. Separately, a historical Firefox 77 Bugzilla report described incomplete full-page captures with acceleration enabled. These reports show that acceleration has been associated with some past cases; they do not prove it is the cause of a current blank strip.
- Open Firefox’s application menu and choose Help, then Troubleshoot Mode…. Start the mode and retry a screenshot. This is a diagnostic test for browser environment variables, not a guaranteed repair.
- If the capture changes in Troubleshoot Mode, investigate extensions, theme, and graphics settings rather than assuming a specific one is responsible.
- As a separate temporary test, turn hardware acceleration off in Firefox settings, restart the browser if prompted, and capture again. If it makes no difference, restore the previous setting.
The historical Support thread is Screenshot enabled but does not capture full page; the Firefox 77 report is Bug 1643989. Do not infer that clearing cache, refreshing Firefox, or disabling every extension will fix the symptom: the 2019 thread describes a specific case, not a general remedy.

Capture inner content and unusually long pages in sections
For an inner scroller or feed, scroll the relevant area yourself and use Save visible or a selected region for each section. This is a practical fallback when the content is outside the document’s normal scroll area or is created only during scrolling.
An older Bugzilla discussion mentions the experimental preference screenshots.browser.component.enabled and adjustable selection handles. Its current availability and suitability are not established. If a very tall document stops at a consistent height, test a shorter region or capture it in segments. Historical discussions report different screenshot dimensions under different tests and setups, so there is no single universal maximum height supported by the cited evidence. See Bug 1853295.
