FireEye introduced Helix on November 29, 2016, as an intelligence-led platform for bringing security alerts, threat intelligence, investigation and response workflows together. It was designed to help security operations teams make sense of events from FireEye and third-party tools, prioritize what needed attention and coordinate a response.
What was FireEye Helix?
Helix was a cloud-hosted security operations platform that combined functions associated with a next-generation SIEM, threat intelligence, analytics, orchestration, case management and compliance reporting. FireEye described it as a way to take an incident “from alert to fix,” rather than treating each security product’s alerts as separate queues. Its launch positioned the platform for organizations of different sizes and industries.
FireEye’s 2017 Form 10-K described Helix as combining cloud-based network, email and endpoint detection with contextual threat intelligence, threat analytics and orchestration in a unified cloud interface. That description reflects the product’s early capabilities; it should not be read as a statement about present-day availability or support.
How Helix aimed to streamline security operations
Helix brought machine-generated event data from FireEye and third-party products into a shared interface. It could enrich events with information about attackers’ identities, tools and techniques, giving analysts more context for deciding which alerts warranted investigation.

#1 Best Overall
- Compact and Efficient Design: The FortiGate 40F is designed for small to mid-sized businesses and enterprise branch offices, featuring a compact, fanless desktop form factor that ensures quiet operation and minimizes space usage.
- Robust Connectivity Options: Equipped with 5 GE RJ45 ports, including 1 WAN port and 4 internal ports, this model provides essential connectivity and flexibility for various network configurations in a small-scale environment.
- High-Performance Security: Offers up to 1 Gbps IPS throughput and 600 Mbps threat protection throughput, using Fortinet’s purpose-built security processor technology to deliver industry-leading performance and protection for SSL encrypted traffic.
- Advanced Threat Protection: Integrated with Fortinet’s AI-powered FortiGuard Labs, the FortiGate 40F offers comprehensive cybersecurity, identifying and mitigating both known and unknown threats to maintain robust security across your network.
- Simplified Management and Deployment: Features a user-friendly management console that provides comprehensive network automation and visibility, coupled with Zero Touch Integration with Fortinet’s Security Fabric for easy deployment.
- Collect: Bring event data and alerts from network, endpoint, email and other connected security products into the platform.
- Enrich and prioritize: Add threat-intelligence context and help teams identify alerts requiring attention.
- Investigate: Use the investigative workbench and case-management capabilities to examine events and track incidents.
- Coordinate response: Use orchestration and workflow management to assign and automate response steps.
- Report: Support compliance reporting alongside the operational work of handling incidents.
The aim was to reduce the time and effort analysts spent sorting through low-quality or false alerts, while connecting detection to investigation and response. The platform supported that workflow; it did not make every alert accurate or eliminate the need for analyst judgment.
What products and integrations did Helix include?
The November 2016 launch announcement described Helix as unifying several FireEye products and services. FireEye’s data sheet later described integrations with more than 300 FireEye and non-FireEye security tools; that figure is the data sheet’s stated integration breadth, not a claim that every connector offered identical capabilities.

| Product or capability | Role in Helix |
|---|---|
| Network Security (NX) | FireEye network security telemetry and detection. |
| Endpoint Security (HX) | Endpoint security telemetry and detection. |
| Threat Analytics Platform (TAP) | Threat analytics. |
| Advanced Threat Intelligence (ATI) | Threat-intelligence context. |
| FireEye Security Orchestrator (FSO) | Security orchestration. |
| Third-party security tools | External event data and alerts; FireEye’s data sheet said Helix could integrate with more than 300 FireEye and non-FireEye tools. |
The launch announcement listed cloud or on-premises email security, iSIGHT Intelligence, additional orchestrator capabilities and playbooks, and FireEye as a Service as premium additions. These were described as premium options, not as capabilities automatically included in every Helix deployment.
Example: extending visibility to OT and IoT
Helix’s integrations could extend beyond conventional IT security tools. On October 31, 2019, Claroty announced that its Continuous Threat Detection product integrated with Helix through a jointly developed plug-in. The integration let Helix consume OT/IoT asset details and alerts, with the goal of giving teams a consolidated view of IT and operational-technology threats. The announcement establishes that integration, not that every Helix customer deployed it.

- 【Up to 1100 Mbps VPN Speed 】 Hardware-accelerated WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO deliver up to 1100 Mbps VPN throughput, over 3× faster than Brume 2 for smooth remote access and file transfers.
- 【Three 2.5G Ports & Multi-WAN】Tri-port 2.5GbE design with flexible WAN LAN configuration supports multi-gigabit wired setups, dual-ISP Multi-WAN and failover to keep home and SOHO networks online.
- 【Stealth VPN Obfuscation】VPN obfuscation disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, helping you evade blocking, bypass restrictive networks and maintain stable, private connections.
- 【DPI protection】Deep Packet Inspection with visual dashboards blocks adult/gambling/malicious sites, while SQM and QoS prioritize gaming, calls, and video when bandwidth is tight
- 【OpenWrt & USB 3.0 Expansion】OpenWrt with 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC lets you install plugins and build VPN, ad-blocking or NAS, while USB 3.0 Type‑C connects high-speed storage or 4G/5G dongles
Was Helix a SIEM or a SOAR platform?
It was positioned as a broader security operations platform incorporating elements of both. FireEye’s data sheet explicitly listed next-generation SIEM and security orchestration among Helix’s functions. Its event collection, correlation, intelligence enrichment and reporting fit SIEM-style work; its playbooks, orchestration and workflow management fit SOAR-style work. Helix also included investigation and case-management capabilities, so describing it only as a SIEM or only as SOAR misses part of the product’s stated scope.

Connector count alone does not show whether a platform fits a security operations team. A useful evaluation should consider:

- Runs UniFi Network for full-stack network management
- Manages 30+ UniFi Network devices and 300+ clients
- 1 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS
- Multi-WAN load balancing
- 0.96" LCM status display
- Telemetry and integrations: Which sources can be connected, what data each connector exposes and whether the required sources are supported.
- Threat-intelligence enrichment: What context is added to alerts and how analysts can understand its relevance.
- Investigation and prioritization: How analysts search related events, review cases and decide which alerts to handle first.
- Automation controls: What playbooks can do, which steps require approval and how workflows can be adapted to response policies.
- Deployment and operations: Whether the deployment model and service arrangements suit the organization’s requirements.
- Reporting and specialized environments: Whether compliance reporting and integrations for environments such as OT/IoT meet specific needs.
These are evaluation criteria, not a claim that all products with SIEM or SOAR labels provide the same functions or level of integration.
