For a premium 4K comparison, the choice is between the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) and the Google TV Streamer (4K)—not every device sold under the Fire TV Stick name. Choose Google’s box if you want built-in gigabit Ethernet, more listed memory and storage, or Google Home, Matter and Thread features. Choose Amazon’s stick if you prefer a compact HDMI device, Alexa controls or Wi-Fi 6E. Both list 4K HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support; neither is a universal winner.

Which one is better for you?

Choose Google TV Streamer if you want a home hub or built-in Ethernet

  • You use Google Home, Matter or Thread devices and want streaming hardware that also serves smart-home functions.
  • You want wired networking without buying an Ethernet adapter.
  • You prefer a set-top box and value the higher published memory and storage figures, particularly if you expect to install more apps. Those figures alone do not establish a real-world speed advantage.

Google describes the Streamer as a Thread border router and a hub for Matter and Google Home, supporting setup and control of smart-home devices. Feature availability and operation can depend on compatible devices and software.

Choose Fire TV Stick 4K Max if you want a stick, Alexa or Wi-Fi 6E

  • You want a compact device that connects directly to an HDMI port rather than a box beside the TV.
  • You already use Alexa or prefer its voice remote and compatible smart-home controls.
  • You want Wi-Fi 6E support and do not require built-in Ethernet.

Check the generation and region on the product listing, since Amazon’s Fire TV Stick range includes other models and the included accessories may differ by regional package.

Either can work for a straightforward 4K setup

Both named devices support 4K HDR and list Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. To use a particular resolution, HDR format or audio feature, the TV, streaming content or app, network and sound equipment must also support it. A format listed in device specifications does not mean every service or title will offer it.

Do you need Ethernet or Wi-Fi 6E?

Google TV Streamer has built-in gigabit Ethernet, useful if you want a wired connection and a cable can reach the device. Fire TV Stick 4K Max supports Wi-Fi 6E; connecting it by Ethernet requires an external dongle. Choose based on your home network and installation, not the labels alone: Wi-Fi 6E requires compatible networking equipment, while Ethernet requires a suitable wired connection.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Confirm the exact Amazon model. Look for “Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023)” if you are comparing the hardware described here. Do not assume another Fire TV Stick generation has the same specifications.
  2. Check your TV and audio setup. Confirm the TV supports your desired 4K and HDR formats, and that your soundbar or receiver supports the audio format you want.
  3. Check the connection and accessories. Google says its Streamer requires a certified HDMI 2.1 cable, sold separately. Confirm the regional box contents for either device and account for an Ethernet dongle if you plan to wire the Fire TV Stick.
  4. Compare current local prices and availability. Google’s $149.99 figure was the US Store listing observed October 4, 2026, not a guaranteed current or regional price. Amazon’s cited device specifications do not provide a verified current price for the comparison model.
