Final Fantasy VII Revelation is not released yet, so Square Enix has not confirmed its Hard Mode rules, chapter checkpoints, New Game Plus, reward transfers or a missables list. As of October 19, 2026, the reliable information is limited to the April 8, 2027 launch, the supported platforms and the announced editions. Any guide claiming exact unlock conditions or carryover details is speculation unless it is updated from the released game or a definitive Square Enix guide.
This FAQ separates confirmed product information from unanswered mechanics questions, then gives you a practical way to verify each system when Revelation launches.
What is confirmed about FFVII Revelation before launch?
Square Enix has announced a worldwide release on April 8, 2027. The game will be available in physical and digital formats for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Those are the confirmed platform families; the announcement does not establish feature parity, save-transfer behavior or mode availability across them.

|---|---|---|
| Release date | April 8, 2027 | Any later delay or regional timing |
| Formats | Physical and digital | Disc, cartridge, download-size and preload details |
| Platforms | PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC | Cross-save, cross-progression and feature differences |

The official product page lists preorder and edition bonuses. It does not publish a Hard Mode, checkpoint, New Game Plus or missables table. Treat the product page as the authority for what you buy, not as evidence that a particular gameplay mode exists.

Editions, early access and the Story Expansion Pass
Square Enix has announced Standard, Premium and Premium Plus editions. The Premium tiers include 24-hour early access and the Story Expansion Pass. Square Enix also describes the pass as purchasable separately after launch, so buying a Premium edition is not the only announced route to that expansion content.
| Edition or product | Announced benefit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base game edition | No additional Standard bonuses are specified in the available announcement |
| Premium | 24-hour early access and Story Expansion Pass | Exact pass contents and bonus-item effects are not detailed here |
| Premium Plus | 24-hour early access and Story Expansion Pass | Additional Premium Plus inclusions require the final product listing |
| Story Expansion Pass sold separately | Separate post-launch purchase is planned | Price, release schedule and individual expansion details are not confirmed |
These are product entitlements, not evidence of Hard Mode rewards or New Game Plus carryover. Keep preorder bonuses, account entitlements and gameplay rewards in separate notes when comparing editions.
Does FFVII Revelation have Hard Mode?
There is no confirmed answer yet. No official source available on October 19, 2026 states when Hard Mode unlocks, whether it is a menu option or a post-story activity, how enemy levels scale, what restrictions apply, which items or abilities are limited, or whether completion is tied to trophies or achievements.

A secondary interview report describes Revelation as being positioned around endgame content rather than simply repeating the Hard Mode replay structure used in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth. That is a statement about design direction, not a final ruleset. It cannot establish an unlock chapter, a difficulty multiplier, an item ban or a reward.
Hard Mode questions still open
- Unlock timing: The game may require an ending, a clear save or another condition, but Square Enix has not said which.
- Difficulty model: Enemy statistics, artificial intelligence, damage values and encounter changes have not been published.
- Resource rules: There is no confirmation about healing, rest points, item use, equipment changes or other restrictions.
- Progression: Level scaling, ability availability and whether the mode uses a separate profile are unknown.
- Achievements: No trophy or achievement relationship has been announced.
Do not plan a first playthrough around an assumed Hard Mode route. Until the final game or an official guide documents the rules, statements such as “Hard Mode unlocks after Chapter X” or “items are disabled” should be labeled unverified.
Are there chapter checkpoints or chapter replay?
Square Enix has not published a checkpoint map or a chapter-replay specification. Consequently, there is no verified promise that you will be able to reload every choice, side quest, conversation outcome or reward from a menu.
Rank #3
“Checkpoint” can mean several different things: an automatic restart after a defeat, a manual save location, a chapter-select entry point or a replay mode that restores selected quest states. Revelation’s announcement does not say which, if any, of these systems it uses. A checkpoint that restarts a battle would not necessarily let you undo an earlier branch or reclaim a one-time reward.
What to verify when the game is live
- Open the pause and save menus during the opening chapters and record the exact labels used for manual, autosave and chapter options.
- Check whether a completed chapter creates a selectable entry, and note whether that entry shows a date, difficulty, completion percentage or separate save slot.
- Before a major decision or optional activity, create a distinct save if the game permits it; do not overwrite your only clear save.
- After completing a branch, revisit the chapter menu and test whether the decision can be changed without losing later progress.
- Check an earlier chapter for side-quest availability and reward state rather than assuming a replay resets everything.
- Record whether replayed content changes the main save, creates a duplicate clear file or uses an isolated sandbox.
This procedure produces evidence about the actual release without promising a granularity that has not been announced.
Is New Game Plus confirmed, and what carries over?
No named New Game Plus mode has been confirmed. There is also no authoritative list of what would transfer into a second playthrough. Do not import assumptions from Remake, Rebirth or another role-playing game.

“Second playthrough” may eventually mean a formal New Game Plus, a chapter replay, a post-ending free-roam file or simply starting a new save. Those structures have different consequences for quests and rewards. Wait for the in-game description or a Square Enix guide before spending rare items or discarding a completed save.
A safe first-clear plan
- Keep at least one manual save from before the ending and one completed clear save, if the release allows both.
- Write down your difficulty, party levels, major equipment and unresolved side activities.
- Capture the exact wording of any “clear data” or “carry over” prompt; wording is more reliable than assumptions based on earlier games.
- Test a small, nonessential item or cosmetic first if the game offers a carryover preview. Do not sacrifice unique rewards to experiment.
What rewards are confirmed?
No authoritative reward table exists for Hard Mode, endgame challenges or optional activities. The official edition page confirms product and account bonuses, but it does not establish the rewards for completing a difficult mode, finishing every side quest or reaching a particular ending.
| Reward source | What is known | What is not known |
|---|---|---|
| Preorder bonuses | The official product page lists preorder bonuses | The complete item list, availability window and gameplay effects |
| Edition bonuses | The official product page lists bonuses for the announced editions | Whether any bonus is cosmetic, consumable, combat-related or exclusive |
| Hard Mode completion | No reward table published | Items, equipment, cosmetics, trophies or unlock flags |
| Endgame challenges | No authoritative table published | Challenge names, unlock conditions and reward tiers |
| Optional activities | No authoritative table published | One-time rewards, repeatability and missable status |
Keep a distinction between a bonus granted by your purchase account and a reward earned inside the game. A downloadable entitlement may remain available even when a quest reward is permanently missed, but Revelation’s actual behavior has not been documented.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you miss quests or rewards?
No official missables checklist is available. Interviews indicate that player choices and side content matter, which is enough to justify careful tracking at launch but not enough to identify a specific quest, chapter or item as permanently missable.
Naoki Hamaguchi said in a GamesRadar+ interview report dated July 31, 2026: “One of the things I think people got a little bit tired of – or maybe that’s when they stepped away from the game – was on the world map, there is a lot of content,”. The comment addresses the amount and presentation of world-map content; it does not confirm which activities can be skipped or revisited.
Build your own launch checklist
- At the start of each chapter, note newly available locations, characters and activities.
- Before advancing a main objective that sounds irreversible, finish nearby side content or create a separate save.
- Record every reward that appears only once, including equipment, materia, cosmetics, key items and unique conversations.
- Mark choices that change dialogue, party availability, relationships or the order of later events.
- After the ending, inspect every region and menu for a clear indicator of incomplete activities before beginning another file.
These are risk-management steps, not claims that the game definitely uses permanent lockouts. They protect a first playthrough while the community establishes which branches are reversible.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to judge pre-release claims
A trustworthy guide should identify its evidence and date. Before relying on a statement, ask:
- Does it quote a Square Enix announcement, an in-game screen or a post-launch guide?
- Does it distinguish a confirmed feature from an interview comment about design goals?
- Does it specify the platform, edition, region and game version?
- Does it explain whether a number came from a one-time bonus, a test build or the retail release?
- Does it avoid presenting Remake or Rebirth behavior as Revelation fact?
Claims that list exact chapter numbers, reward names or carryover categories before the game is playable should be treated as forecasts. They may become accurate later, but they are not confirmed answers today.
What should you do before April 8, 2027?
- Choose a platform from the four announced families and verify the final regional product listing before ordering.
- Compare Standard, Premium and Premium Plus using the retailer’s current contents page; the Premium tiers are the ones announced with 24-hour early access and the Story Expansion Pass.
- Remember that the Story Expansion Pass is also planned as a separate post-launch purchase, so you are not required to choose a Premium tier solely to obtain the pass.
- Do not buy an edition on the assumption that it includes Hard Mode rewards, a New Game Plus slot or missables protection; none of those benefits has been announced.
- On release day, update the game fully and record the version number before testing checkpoints, replay or carryover.
Bottom line for players waiting on a definitive FAQ
As of October 19, 2026, the only responsible answer is that Hard Mode, chapter checkpoints, New Game Plus, reward transfers and missable-content rules remain unconfirmed. Revelation launches on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Standard, Premium and Premium Plus editions announced. Use the official product page for edition entitlements, preserve manual saves when the game arrives, and replace every pre-release assumption with an observed in-game result or a later Square Enix guide.
